So good and taking the pandemic seriously

Ghiradelli just reopened this month and they are really taking the pandemic seriously. They have social distancing stickers out front to keep all patrons 6 ft apart. They only let one group in at a time, everyone is wearing a mask, and then have stickers out back for you to stand and wait for your order. They have a limited menu, but luckily our favorite Ocean Beach sundae was there and just as good as we remembered it.

Awesome Chocolate Delicacies!

Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop located in Steinbeck Plaza on the Cannery Row, serve delicious varieties of chocolates, ice creams, hot fudge and shakes. On a sunny afternoon we relished their Hot Chocolate Fudge and Hot Chocolate. True to their tradition, they were delicious and awesome. They are quite busy with queues but the staff manage well. It is a treat worth the value.

Delicious!

We shared a sundae with vanilla ice cream, dark chocolate fudge and caramel. It was delicious! Pretty pricey-I think it was close to $13-gotta add the "Monterey tourist surcharge"...lol. We took it outside to the patio which is right over the beach so you can enjoy the ocean as you eat. Just don't forget your jackets as it was pretty cold in that spot.

Service standards and attitude have declined

My family used to love going here on every visit to the Monterey/Carmel area. Sadly, this relationship is likely coming to an end. What changed? Yesterday's visit, we witnessed they stopped giving out free samplers, which we used to enjoy. I can understand that, but when I order $40 worth of items and ask for one dark chocolate sample for myself (as I was having nothing else) the manager overheard me asking the cashier and curtly informed me that I could buy one. Not a big deal. I soon forgot about it. The place was not super busy, but nonetheless about 8 minutes later, my wife's shake came out and was milky and lacked some of the other ingredients as well. When I politely asked the two at the order fulfillment area to remake it, they listened to my description of what is wrong and said they would make a new one. About 15 minutes went by so I returned and I asked them where the order was and they thanked me for reminding them (they forgot). When they remade it they used ice (I was breaking up small ice pieces with my teeth) to thicken it instead of more ice cream and other ingredients. It was undrinkably bad, even to my two teenagers. Sadly, by this time we had walked out and were out of time to deal with it. Suffice to say, this experience tarnished what was a very positive image of the brand & location. Why not one star? The sundae my son had was up to the original standards of taste.

A Shell of a Formerly Great Ice Cream Shop

What a disappointment. We’ve been coming to this shop on vacation for 15 years. We always enjoyed the 3 scoop signature sundaes, but we can’t anymore. Glass sundae dishes and real spoons have been replaced by plastic cups and plastic spoons. Three scoop sundaes are now generic single scoop, miniature facsimiles of once Great super sundaes. And it’s similarly priced! Still great chocolate and ice cream, but the thrill is gone. What happened to Ghirardelli? Covid? Whatever! Bring back the old menu and magic!

Delicious as always

Stopped for dessert. This place has a great variety of chocolates, ice cream, and gift boxes. There were only 2 people in line when we got there, so service was quick. It's awesome that you can sit out on the patio with a bay front view. Ice cream was delicious as always!

Ghiradelli's Ice Cream had no flavor.

When I was in college I used to LOVE coming to Ghiradelli's in Monterey. They had the best chocolate chip ice cream anywhere. Having visited just a week or so ago, I don't know what's happened but the ice cream was terrible. It was flavorless, and all they could provide were some chocolate sprinkles. I ended up throwing the whole ice cream and sprinkles out and just eating the cone. It is unfortunate, but I honestly felt like I was eating some Dryer's ice cream that had no vanilla flavor. It felt heavy and to be honest, it was a little sickening. I hate to say that about food, but it was just my experience. I hope others had a better one.

Normally we grab a sundae at the SF location. We were in Monterey and got the craving. Luckily the line was still inside the door. We placed our order and waited and watched. It took 25 minutes! There were 3-4 employees making the orders but a lot of standing around. Perhaps they were training new people. The SF location is twice as fast. Try the Ocean Beach sundae. Salt, caramel and hot fudge.

Best hot fudge sundae!

This is always a taste of home when I can get it. The shop is conveniently located in the middle of Cannery Row. They offer both the chocolate items for purchase, but also the ice cream parlor. The hot fudge sundaes are my favorite. There is a seating area outside with ocean views that made a really nice break from the Aquarium visit.

Best Ice Cream !

We love stopping by here for coffee and ice cream sundae's. The food is delicious and the service is fast and friendly. Great location, right in the middle of Cannery Row. The prices are reasonable. We go here with family, teens, friends and always have a great experience. Highly recommend

Still as good as ever!

Our last trip to Ghiradelli's was in San Francisco a number of years ago. Nice to see it hasn't changed except no long lines due to the pandemic most likely. But the chocolate sundaes were superb and big. Whipped cream is real!

Told to Shut Up

My wife and friend ordered some coffees. It was at lest 15 minutes and my wife went to check on the coffee. The “barista” tells my wife very curt Yes I’m working it. My wife then says ok I know your busy. The girl the. Say I don’t really care and the Shut Up. My wife will not let me intervene, out of respect to my wife. I will only post this review.

Best View Ever for enjoying ice cream!

The location can't be beat. We sat out on the patio overlooking Monterey Bay at sunset. Was lovely to watch the otters, seals and bird life while we enjoyed our sundae.

There's a reason it's a known name. The ice cream itself was good. The sundaes were excellent and the shakes to die for. The only downside is price, with an ice cream approaching 10$
