This really a cool place hidden in a beautiful, 100 year old stone building delivering fresh tasty food and warm, welcoming service. Thanksgiving day I was famished. Many Monterey lunch spots indicated they were open and were not. The village was a ghost town. But I saw from a distance a few people gathered around an umbrella table at East Village Cafe and came out with delicious fresh Capresi sandwiches, two boiled eggs and Lattes for my daughter and me. What a charming place run by delightful people serving exceptional food! Check out these photos!

East Village Cafe is an institution in Monterey, and I still remember when it was called "Morgan's." The current owner is a great guy and has connected East Village Cafe with a retail store next door selling Vajrayana Buddhist implements. My favourie part of the new East Village Cafe is its Nepalese Momos: a delicious dumpling dish that is normally difficult to come by, requiring a disapora community from the Himalayas. I am grateful to be able to get Momos from East Village Cafe in the centre of Monterey.

The coffee is delicious, decaf americano is bold, flavorful, strong, not sour, not burnt, just so delicious. This is what coffee should taste like Eden if it is decaf. Wish they had heavy cream, but half half will do. Choco Croissant so good. Quiche-spinach mushroom yummy. If you are a decafer but love bold coffee, give this place a try. Went to a coffee roaster in Seaside, expected a great decaf americano, was blah sour after taste. East Village is it.

Very good lattes and nice atmosphere! I stopped by to try the Fogbreaker, and it was so good my mother went back to get one for herself after she tried mine, even though she doesn't usually drink coffee

I landed here for coffee and breakfast, and wound up coming back that night for wine and an Irish folk band. Both experiences were amazing, met people, lots of laughing and tons of fun. Great food and drink, very reasonably priced. Can’t say enough about the service there - obviously employees love working there, really chill yet attentive. Can’t wait to return!

One of our favorite places to come for coffee that is always good. The outdoor seating is perfect after a long bike ride as well.

Good coffee & tea. Good Jazz on weekend evenings, Plenty of space. A large fraction of the clientele at off peak times are quirky local denizens and street people mixed in with the rest.

We are two English tourists and have found it difficult to find a really good cup of tea during our stay in California and Arizona. We hit upon this place as it was round the corner from the Monterey hotel where we are staying for 2 nights before flying home. The English Breakfast tea brewed with a nice big teabag was to die for. Accompanied by slices of Pumpkin cake and Coffee cake, it was the perfect afternoon tea for a thirsty English couple.

Great spot to hang out and do some work or chat with friends. Inside is full of stone walls so there's a very cool coffee-shop vibe going on. But there are quiet spots in the back where you can get some work done. Coffee is Carmel valley Roasters, which is always good, and they do pour-overs on request

A traditional coffee shop with beer and wine in the evenings and live entertainment. Good coffee, nice staff. This would be my go-to spot if I lived in Monterey and for future visits. We spent $8 for two iced coffees and a large almond croissant - comparable pricing to chain places.

This place is owned by Carmel Vally Coffee Roasting, and so features their coffee. A very nice atmosphere in a good location away from the congested part of downtown.
