GREAT SERVICE & FOOD!

My partner & I wanted a yummy burger in the Monterey area where we were visiting & wow I’m so happy we chose this place! The service was PHENOMENAL! Probably the best service I’ve received out of all the food places we have ate over the multiple trips to Monterey / Santa Cruz area! The food was amazing. Garlic fries were so tasty (Crispy with great flavor) the Diet Coke was sooo yummy! The best I’ve had in awhile (lol) and the burger… oh my gosh! Amazing!! High quality. The waitress was so sweet, the guy taking orders (a older Asian individual) was super sweet and told us how to order & gave us menus to sit down & decide since we have never been! We went close to closing & the food was still amazing. They were cleaning up & told us no rush, to stay as long as we wanted! The restaurant itself was super clean & loved the vibe. Highly recommend this hidden gem. What really will make us go again is the high quality service we received !!

Best garlic fries

I ordered on DoorDash. Burger was great, and the garlic fries were even better. Every time I order garlic fries from a place, I always hope they come out just like these did. So please, keep doing what you're doing.

WOW everything was delicious Pt Lobos burger was beyond great, onion rings crispy and bacon favorful! the fries were plentiful and wonderful ! My wife’s Copeland Mushroom burger was yummy…this family owned business is doing it right with great values and better service! Definitely worth more visits!

Really good gluten free burger option, small operation, definitely worth a visit.

I had the Big Kahuna burger with a gluten free bun, it was very juicy, which mixed with the sauce and fell out of it, but if you eat it over your fries it kind of works, excellent GF bun BTW and nicely toasted. I was thinking it would be a bigger burger than the others, but the clue is in the pricing, with the beast being the more expensive option. My only criticism is that the fries were just a little oily and you could taste it, might just be due to putting a large number in the fryer at one time just dropping the oil temperature, maybe a one off, but hopefully an issue they can address. Reading the other comments, the food might be a little variable here due to being a small operation, hopefully they will find ways to improve that, but it's really splitting hairs as it's extremely good, the service is consistent and well done and it definitely deserves success.

Absolutely delicious

We are here twice in 3 days. I’d like to say it was one of the top 10 burgers I’ve had in my life but I actually can’t think of the last one I had that came close. I had the #4 mushroom Swiss… twice…. I literally can’t overstate how delicious it was. You do order at the till and pay in advance but the welcome we received and the friendliness and speed of service was totally amazing. If I lived in Monterey I’d be in here all the time and it’s the sort of food that makes me want to come back as soon as I can. Honestly just go here as soon as you can because it’s so so good. Try the onion rings too!

Best burger in years.

m not sure why everybody doesn’t eat all of their hamburgers here. I had the works cheeseburger and it was probably the best cheeseburger I’ve had in years. We also had the fish and chips and my son had a regular Sur cheeseburger. We added avocado and it was fresh and great quality. This will probably end up our family‘s favorite late night burger spot. Thank you Chef and awesomely sweet waitress. Superb service and food!

The best meal of our trip so far (day 5)

So glad we found this place. Wonderful atmosphere, attentive waitress and the most delicious food. The chicken fingers were amazing as were the burgers. My husband, who loves his food hot, a real chilli head who buys hot sauce on all our travels, had the fish volcano burger. He isn't usually someone that chooses fish but he enjoyed it so much! The onion rings and chilli poppers were some of the best we've ever tasted. The combo deal of fries and soft drink with your burger is really fab and makes this place so reasonable. You must try this place. You will not regret it. We'd be back tomorrow if we weren't on a route 1 road trip.

Lotsa Rings & Fries!

We each ordered a burger, with french fries and onion rings on the side. What a pile of fries! The rings had a very crisp batter. Ask for side sauces, including Sur sauce, Phoenix ( hot), and ranch. I had the Copeland Mushroom burger. Hubby had the Classic burger. Nice to try a new location in familiar place.

Delicious food

Loved the burgers here! I had the spicy fish burger and my partner had a bacon cheeseburger - both were excellent. The fries that come with it are beautifully crispy. Would highly recommend!

Great burgers

Popped in for lunch , best burger I’ve had in a long while , had the 1/2lb burger , so juicy and obviously handmade . Great fries as well , very friendly staff , would definitely recommend, and not overpriced like on the wharf.

NOT GOOD. I had been to Sur burger before Covid. The food was amazing, they had the best burgers in downtown monterey. After Covid shut the restaurants down, the original owners had to close the restaurant and eventually sold it. The new management has ruined what Sur Burger use to be. They use such low quality ingredients, the chicken is like rubber, the beef is similar to McDonalds , and the fries are soggy and cheap. I have eaten there multiple times just to see if it was just a bad meal that I was served but the food was consistently unsatisfactory. If you want poor quality food and to overpay for the quality then you found the right place. IF THE OWNERS USE THE SAME QUALITY INGREDIENTS AS THE PREVIOUS OWNERS THEN I WOULD NOT BE WRITING THIS.

Marvelous Milkshakes

Besides the food being tasty, the milkshakes are marvelous! Super tasty. They have got the recipe down! I would recommend getting one without the added chocolate sauce, however.

Fantastic burger and fries

After leaving Alvarado Street Brewery across the road due to poor service, we were hungry and stopped in here after seeing the high rating online. We each got burgers medium rare and they were both perfectly cooked (which isn't usually the case, in my experience). The beef was good quality, the buns were very good (one of our party got a gluten-free bun and loved it), and the fries were absolutely delicious. The little condiment bar was also really interesting and high quality. We were surprised at just how good this place was, and will return on our next trip to the area.

Good Burger

Had the Sur Burger and my sister chose the Asian salad. Pretty good burger, bun toppings were straight forward not quite as juicy as I had hoped but none the less very good, worth the visit. Fries were also very good. I do like fries on the rustic side, (partial peel still on) maybe they’re spin that way.
