After one of the worst meals ever on Fisherman’s Wharf (how can you screw up shrimp salad?) we chanced upon Cult Taco for lunch and went straight back for supper. It’s superb! Everything beautifully presented, ingredients totally fresh, you can taste flavours. The kind of place you come out of feeling healthier than you went in. And satisfied. Just sorry we’re leaving Monterey tmrw now...

The tacos we're good just not enough salsa offered and I wasn't crazy about red cabbage on tacos. The tacos shells were homemade and we're delicious. They were out of water when I was there in dining area and was Shocked they do not Except Cash so make sure you bring your credit or debit card with you. I had the shrimp and fish tacos, the shrimp were best of the two.

Everything is beautifully presented, super tasty and fresh. Their jalapeño crema dressing is so so good, fresh greens, perfect avocado and crisp vegetables with lots of fat shrimp. I also has a local monterey squid taco on a black squid ink tortilla, just lovely! Te Amo Mucho Cult Taco!

Look at their picture of the fish taco and compare it to the one they served me for $4...each.
And to charge $3 for a bottled soda that they think is cool to label as Mexican Sprite...really?!?
Alvarado Street Brewery has much nicer fish tacos, and you get 3 for only $7 during happy hour. Although, I gave them a 3 rating because of service, bit I think I'd rather go back there and see if service will be better at a different time.
For Cult Taco to open doors on a pretentious flare of interior design and marginal hip art, this one won't last...Monterey has lots of choices.

I was really excited to stumble on Cult Taco today. I was down for work and left one place that had no protein! bummer.
I had read about Cult Taco in "Edible" magazine which I consider a reliable source of info. Wow-what a disappointment.
I love the decor as I walked in and was super excited because I read good reviews in Edible. I ordered the carnitas and shrimp taco $9.70 for both tacos,
First, let's break down the taco shell - lukewarm and limp. It tasted like the organic brand that sells in Whole Foods that smells. YUCK
The Shrimp could have has some crisp and flavor - it was bland. The salsa on top of the shrimp was good and spicy.
The Carnitas was the winger - no flavor and dry! UGG carnitas is usually my favorite and should have lots of flavor but no flavor .... where did edible go wrong? This restaurant reminds me of all the bland places there to serve bland people who can't tolerate flavor. I will stick with Carmel Valley as my go too when I visit Monterey.

I had a fat kid weekend in Monterey, eating nearly everything in sight. Cult Taco was the best food and the best value as well. The micheladas are great, the cauliflower mole taco was phenomenal and don't sleep on the pickles and the peanuts (the roasted cloves of garlic in the peanuts are a nice bonus). I wish I'd eaten there for every meal in Monterey.

No cash no food..The place is really nice and clean and great service. The tacos are ok, we tried all the tacos of the menu for tasting purposes.. some are just ok others not. The cole slaw they serve in all the tacos ruins the flavor of everything. If they want to be authentic they should keep it simple and serve them with pico de gallo or cebolla in escabeche and some cilantro, specially their carnitas tacos. Another thing is not to order more than 2 tacos at once, they will get cold and the hand made tortilla they serve will turn like rubber in 3 minutes. If we ever comeback we will order pico de gallo and guacamole and garnish our tacos instead of their salsas an avoid their green salsa verde full of seeds. Personally I don’t see the point to make salsas with seeds when for some adults we tried to avoid eating for medical reasons. Hope they can improve with changing a few simple things and let the customers to have a choice with salsas otherwise they are missing the real thing. Basically you just do not serve a nice Barbacoa taco with these salsas it is a sacrilege.

The food was outstanding. I had the mushroom taco, the fish taco, and barbacoa. Everything was melt-in-your mouth amazing. The handmade tortillas are out of this world. Really cool art on the dishes, walls, booths etc. Can't wait to eat there again when back in Monterey

Visited with our baby and had a really nice quick lunch away from the crowds. Local Catch Taco was great. High chair for baby. Self service ordering was easy and staff were very friendly and helpful. Service was super quick.
