We are a locally owned specialty coffee shop, focused on single origins roasted in house. Captain + Stoker, our name and the two positions on a tandem bicycle is another focus of ours.. it certainly isn't just a name! In order for the tandem ride to go smoothly, the team needs to work together. We take this idea seriously in our shop. We are always working in tandem - with our crew, our community, and our Earth!

Such good coffee

Today was tumultuous after a long vet visit (because everything takes soooo long these days) which left my usual routine in tatters. And then I left home to work at the office on a crazy blown out of proportion false emergency without my usual home made coffee. Driving in I made the correct decision to get coffee from a local shop. East West cafe was sadly closed so I decided to give this one another try ( I tried it when it opened a lifetime ago with different owners). I’d left a bad review and then the new owners apologized inviting me back saying it was new owners. Today is the first day I took them up on it and my cinnamon vanilla iced latte with almond milk was so good. My new favorites coffee in downtown Monterey in my old favorite bike shop across from my old favorite gym. I’ll have to grab a bite when needed as well to try the food out.

Coffee and Avocado Toast

My sister raived about this coffee shop, so we took a trip down to Monterey and decided to stop by Captain Stoker Coffee shop, and let me just say, the Avocado toast was to die for!! The toast they use is just delicious I wish they would sell it at the grocery store. I also ordered a cappuccino and it was great. We need more coffee shops like this one. Will definitely stop at Captain Stoker when visiting Monterey or nearby.

AWESOME COFFEE, BEST EVER AVOCADO TOAST, CHILL ‘N “GET STOKED 👍

Visited 2017 been craving another visit since. C&S do everything right! I was solo but took iced espresso, drip house blend (really nice), dbl decaf Americano for my wife and cortado to savor at the enormous common table. Had to get 2 Avocado toasts:thick multigrain lots of avocado, olive oil, arugula and hot red pepper flakes. Pain-au-chocolat and others flakey and crisp. Staff smiling an chill but efficient and fast. Comfy stools and chairs including kids table. Line starts early 6:30 but moves fast surfers, people heading to work, cyclists, local shop owners and ladies and men in uniform. Have to say the “in the know crowd”. Barista slays the espresso drinks! Wish I lived here

Best location for good coffee

We visited here twice. In America, the coffee is always a puddle and we Europeans definitely don't like drinking it. Here you can find very good coffee. For breakfast we can recommend the granola muesli. The almond croissant is also very good, but it comes at a price. Seats are limited.

Support the Local Coffee Shop! (that also has GREAT coffee)

This is a small coffee shop with a lot of personality. It is obvious they take pride in offering a quality product. My group ordered a few different coffees, teas, and pastries and everything was great! Unfortunately, we visited during the COVID closures, but my son is going to school in the area and I told him to be sure to continue to support the local coffee shop. He was sure he would be back soon!

There is a reason why this place has a line out the door in the mornings! Avocado toast was the best I had in the area! Coffee was really good too. They’re so popular. I wish they had more tables and places to sit, but we lucked out and got a table of our own! I also got the feeling that it’s a locals favorite as well as there is a long table in the middle and people were working on their laptops inside.Really great!

Quirky Coffee House

Busy little popular coffee shop located away from busy Monterey sea front. Quirky design, Friendly staff, little bit of seating inside. Freshly brewing coffee on site a good selection of cake and sandwiches. Worth a visit if in the area.

Great service and coffee

We stopped by for hot drinks at this Captain + Stoker location. Very friendly service and the others in my party liked the coffee a lot. I thought the oat milk chai was pretty good. There wasn’t a lot of room at this location on Forest Ave so we took the drinks with us on our walk. We’d go back!

We came by for coffee one morning. Would love to come back if we ever come back to Monterey, I tried their pour over coffee (the flavor from brazil iirc) and it was very good. Their pour over machine is a lot of fun too :) If I lived in Monterey I would come back often to try all the different kinds of coffee they have, its a very unique menu! My mom really liked their bike decorations and their bathroom sign. There was also this roll (brioche i think??) stuffed with cream I believe. Whatever it was was delicious!

Authentic espresso drinks

The decor clinched it for me. Really fun and great if you're a bikey. maybe a bit pricey but the macadamia flat white was delicious and the sourdough bread was very good
