Great views, good coffee

Stopped by for a coffee to start the day. Even on a weekday they were busy so there may be lines on weekends. Staff were friendly and professional, coffee was good. I liked that they had a gluten-free option (muffin) but it was pretty dry (I would probably skip the gf muffin in the future). Views are wonderful and you can sit outside or walk a block and sit right on the beach with your coffee.

Excellent Coffee, bakery, staff and location.

If you in Monterey this is definitely worth a visit, we ate breakfast twice which stopping off in the area and on both occasion the place was excellent. The staff were welcoming, attentive and engaging. The coffee choice was very good, the bakery had an excellent choice of hot and cold options from muffins to breakfast sandwiches. Price wise very reasonable slightly dearer than a chain but larger portions and far better quality. Choice of indoor and outdoor seating ( sea views) all round great location with lovely produce and staff. Well used by locals which is always a good sign in my book.

Great food and drink

Pleasant and patient staff. Great food; the croissants were just right and bagels were toasted and not burned. Hot chocolate was delicious and perfect for Monterey weather. Opens at 6am for those of us with jet lag.

Poor Customer Service

I love the peanut butter cookies here-they're the absolute best! My last time there however I was sorely let down by the total lack of acknowledgement by the server. A short, young blond haired female , she could not even smile or make eye contact. See looked really bored to be there. She nonchalantly informed me there were no peanut butter cookies that day-not even a "sorry". With the current business conditions, I would think shops would be customer friendly- especially a tourist destination such as Monterey.

It's refreshing to find a location that with employees that take pride in their work. I felt welcome each time I walked through their door and sincere appreciation for choosing them. Coffee and were outstanding. A true pleasure and great for watching sunrise.

Nice, easy coffee shop

Very nice casual coffee shop to pick up a quick breakfast. Food is fresh, quick and easy. Had the steel cut oats and a latte. You can enjoy your food right by the water since it's part of the Plaza Hotel property.

Great coffee and tasty breakfast

My husband enjoyed their coffee twice on our last trip. We had the chocolate croissant, which was fantastic. We also tried the breakfast burrito and panini and those weren’t bad. It is a great spot for breakfast if you’re staying at the Monterey Plaza Hotel.

Clean and Comfortable with Excellent Coffee

Very satisfying stop for coffee and a bite to eat. Loved the collection of Steinbeck books, over the cream, sugar, and implements stand, that can be perused and even purchased. Nice touch! Note well — the bathrooms are located in a nearby hotel with a short walk across a plaza.

Great coffee, cinnamon roll and view

This is a great local coffee shop, with usual variety of coffee and tea drinks. The cinnamon rolls are outstanding, with plenty of cinnamon and frosting. Be sure to get them warm. View is stellar - they are located right on the waterfront. There are a number of tables where you can enjoy your brew and the view. Also tried the english muffin egg sandwich which was very good.

Great 6am Coffee

If you are going diving, you are going to want to know about this place. There are other coffee places open (Plumes) but this is definitely the place you want to go. Such good coffee, everything is organic (!) and they even have a gluten free muffin option. Of course you can't beat the location. Highly recommended.

Great location and should be good but by 10AM had run out of all breakfast sandwiches, yogurt and granola. So I had an almond croissant that was likely in the case for days—hard as a rock. Decaf coffee was burnt. I guess they don’t have to worry about attracting repeat business as they’re part of the Monterey Hotel (which is quite nice).

Great way to start the day in Monterey

Visited here two mornings while in Monterey. Beautiful setting! Interior of the shop has nice style and seating; the shop also opens to a large plaza overlooking the Monterey coast, with ample outdoor seating. Very nice service; it was busy both mornings, and the staff were doing a great job working the line and delivering orders in a timely fashion. Typical coffee shop menu, but the end results were delicious. Drip coffee was smooth and easy to drink; speciality espresso-based drinks were not overly bitter. Nice breakfast menu; a ham and cheese croissant was perfect, with a flaky croissant and a touch of while grain mustard on the ham. Pastries were also tasty. Highly recommend—worth the walk from the center of Cannery Row.

Excellent large oat cappuccinos

Excellent oat cappuccinos with larger size options for those of us who enjoy a lot of sips. It was pleasant to sit out on the deck. The Caprese salad was reasonably fresh though in a pre-made box.
