This was my parents' favorite breakfast spot, so when we held the memorial for my mother this last week, we decided upon Black Bear. The staff was gracious and arranged to seat 20 of us, kids and all. The servers were kind, polite, and respectful. Some of the family hadn't seen each other in more than 6 years or longer and this was the perfect spot to get back together.

this is a good place to eat . good selection, have a little bit of everything. good portion size. food is good. also has a small gift shop inside as well. staff is friendly and nice. use covid precautions. we also ate at one in oregan and had breakfast there. everything was great.

I dont understand how this place is even open. Too long of a wait, alarms going off, and horrible food. Why do you people come here? We waited for over an hour for our food because there was a "$400 order from door dash" per the waitress. I guess in-store customers don't take priority. I understand being patient but 7 of us waited over an hour for our food. Secondly, why is everything so damn expensive? $8 for bacon? Why? A chorizo burrito is $18? I asked for eggs and they were brought dripping in vegetable oil. Lastly, the alarm company was working on the alarms setting them off. Couldn't do it later when no customers are there?
Im never coming here again. Place is trash and I won't give them another dime.

We ate here 4 times while in Merced. Food was consistently good and generously proportioned. Service was always pleasant and prompt. We really like Black Bear.

We've got a relatively new Black Bear Diner here in Sacramento just off of El Camino Boulevard. I was surprised to read that the mashed potatoes are unacceptable in the Merced area. I had the petite roast beef last night. The mashed potatoes was the best part! Fresh red creamers seasoned to perfection. I wish I knew what was in them!
We've been looking for a really good diner for a long time. They don't exactly grow on trees in the Sacramento area. This one is it! Their breakfasts are delicious. Their food is fresh and clean. I don't walk away feeling ill. And the people are wonderful. It's become our place to go.

We stopped enroute to Yosemite. Order was taken quite quickly but it took too long to deliver the meals. Servings were generous but mostly because of vast mountains of fries. Service was not overly welcoming or friendly.
