We stopped here on a Saturday, early evening, about 5 pm. Parking across the highway. No wait. I had swordfish with grilled romaine. Fresh fish, nicely cooked, and I wouldn’t say bland, but not very flavorful. We also had Poke, again not very well seasoned. Same with the Mahi and grilled shrimp.
They had a dessert - a donut with marshmallow and edible gold - that looked like it was great.
Ok service.
Healthy food, obviously low sodium - but small portions and needs some Emeril BAM.

What a little gem!
Order at counter, find a seat, fresh seafood delivered to your table! There always seems to be a line which can be lead one to think it will be a long wait but it wasn’t at all. They have a regular menu and then chef specials. We enjoyed a dozen oysters, the spicy shrimp tacos and the seafood curry. The B.C. oysters were phenomenal and our little would have downed all of them if we weren’t sharing. I wouldn’t call the “spicy” shrimp tacos spicy. Don’t get me wrong they were very fresh and very good but the thing that made them spicy was a side sauce that you put on yourself. The seafood curry on special was to die for! It was a gingery curry flavor and was sooooo good!

Fresh fish well prepared at a most reasonable price. Opted for takeout as we had a nearby hotel room with a view. Restaurant seating is rustic with outside picnic tables and a few tables under an awning with gas heaters when needed. Quick, friendly service And no cash accepted. Debit or credit cards only. Seafood curry was outstanding with a hint of heat and loaded with fish and shrimp. The fish was grilled first and added to the curry broth at the end. Great idea and works well. Fish and chips were also great. Crisp and not greasy fish and the shoestring fries were also crisp. These guys know how to cook fish properly. Worth a visit.

We used to love Fish 101 pre-covid, so I hate having to write this review. This was our first post Covid visit and it was such a disappointment. The food was fine, but they continue to have a limited menu, and they serve the food in takeout containers even if you're eating in. Who wants to eat out of cardboard containers and drink out of plastic cups? Since it was Saturday night on Memorial Day weekend, we thought it was going to be really crowded for dinner, but there was no line, which I can now understand. I think they will seriously hurt their reputation with the current approach to dining, especially with so many restaurants being fully open and operational. There is too much competition to provide such a poor experience. We will definitely not be back until they bring back their full menu and actual dishware.

The food was overcooked, the sauces were frozen, and the staff was argumentative. This used to be THE family friendly place to eat; but sadly, the standards have been allowed to slip, and it is now just average to below-average. I hope J, J, and R (the owners) read this and take a deep look at how their product, in both service and quality, is not what it used to be. Time to have a team meeting and discuss what you are actually selling because what we have been receiving lately is NOT the one you brought from San Fran some years ago. Would love to see the pride in service and pride in what goes out on the table returned, but we've spent too much lately in hoping that you would get it together, and have become tired of coming up with excuses for you.

The food here is good but their web web site is really stupid. Tried from 3pm to 4:45pm to change the time of our order delivery time—it was always set for 5:15-5:30pm and we wanted it later. Won’t Let you change it until after 5 pm. Finally gave up and ordered elsewhere on Grub hub where they allow you to pick delivery time any time.

Ordering to-go was easy and the employee was very friendly and that's where the good ends. I don't like leaving bad reviews but the food here just wasn't up to par. The shrimp was chewy and overcooked, the tacos bland, the clam chowder had barely any clam in it. Sadly would not recommend.

I ordered grilled shrimp tacos. The shrimp itself was kind of bland and just eh. I really loved the salsa that came with the tacos, and the hot sauce I ordered was superb.
There are better places to spend your money with better food, so that's why I feel this place is just okay. Some parts of it were good, most were eh (I feel like the tacos were bland and that's why it's just eh).
Worth it if you're in the area and you're okay with putting a bunch of sauces on your tacos to make up for the lack of flavor, but if you're not super hungry (& therefore have time to spend looking for somewhere else), you should go somewhere else.

The fish tacos are in special for happy hour. I got a couple one evening with some friends. Grilled fish was perfect, not too dry. Tacos had nice amount and was full from two tacos. Definitely recommend!

I finally tried this place and wish I’d come sooner! Its name is similar to another fish place in town and this one is much, much better!!
We ordered three dishes; fish and chips, grilled salmon, and fish curry in a coconut curry sauce, and everyone really enjoyed their meal.
We did takeout so I didn’t really examine the restaurant but it looked fairly simple and not particularly amazing. But the fish was great and the prices reasonable so I’ll get back there again soon!!!
Remember the name of this place, or at least its location: highway 101 just north of Leucadia Blvd.

Above average seafood. In our group, two had grilled shrimp burritos, one poke bowl, one grilled fish (mahi mahi) bowl, and I had a grilled shrimp bowl.
To be honest it's not the best environment. It does have indoor and outdoor dining. Parking is an issue. Street parking can be hard to find. But the food is the true attraction. I was very impressed with the grilled shrimp bowl. The grill on the shrimp was perfect. Served with brown rice, raw spinach leaves and a couple of on-the-side sauces, I was really pleased.

Huge soft sour dough bread, your choice of the fresh fish of the day, lettuce, tomato and mayo and oh so Good! think it’s the bread that makes the difference and the large portion of fish..... Lines out the door, you know it’s good. The sides they offer are all amazing, too. As is the poke....yum!

We were in the area and wanted a quick bite and Fish 101 was right there. The service was really good and fast. I ordered clam chowder and my wife got the spicy fish tacos. The tacos arrived in like....2 minutes....which seemed weird. Turns out they were the worst fish tacos either my wife and I have ever had. They we're so dry and tasted like they had been pre-fried and microwaved to slightly warm them. We're both from San Diego so we've had A LOT of Mexican food to compare to. The clam chowder was exactly like Campbell's Mushroom soup. It was ok but NOT clam chowder. We won't be visiting this restaurant again.

Fish 101 is amazing! Being from the East coast, this restaurant was exactly what I was looking for visiting the Pacific coast - amazing fish in a surf oriented town. Baja fish tacos were perfect as well as the fried fish. Tomato coconut soup and clam chowder were also excellent. Great photography in the restaurant of the fisherman from the area. They have some nice Fish 101 swag as well for sale. If you are in the area, take the trip and visit. Employees are nice and knowledgeable about the menu and the area.

Girl taking the order was rude food was OK. They don’t take legal tender a.k.a. cash, only credit cards and before you leave the counter they want to tip added onto the credit card. I Spicy tuna tacos I got cod fried.
Sure would prefer Adding a tip after I get the right service not before!
