We loved this restaurant, went with friends and loved its atmosphere, the quality of its food, the good service and its good prices. We ordered the ravioli of lamb, the lentils with lamb and the carpaccio of guanaco with Malbec wine recommended by the house and everything was delicious. We liked it so much that we went twice in the same week for Lunch and then for dinner and if I had stayed longer at the Chalten I would certainly come back.

Rustic and funny setting with a multitude of license plates from all over the world.
The welcome is warm and the waitress good advice.
The vegetable soup is very good and the trout perfectly cooked with fresh vegetables very well cooked.
Try it!

High prices, especially for Argentina (and anywhere in the world) do not correspond to the classification of only $$$ on trip advisor.
The food is good but the menu and prices are not displayed at the door. If one goes by trip advisor recommendations based on the price category, it is a non-positive surprise.
The food is very good but we are talking about a tenderloin that we ate in many other restaurants for less than half, in the tapas restaurant costs about 35 USD.
River trout about 30USD. To highlight the price of the wines that are within the normal range.
Gentle staff.

The restaurant is friendly in terms of decoration and atmosphere on the other hand at the level of the dishes, there is a bit of “mouth bullshit”.
They sell us the 4€ water that certainly comes out of the tap and we have a dish with lamb while there is a majority of chorizo (local sausage)! When we tell the waitress about it, she tells us with a big smile that the restaurant is full! It is full because the reviews are from before November 2025!!! Since the prices and quality has changed!
“A stew” at 25€ deserves at least a “noble” meat. In short, the backpacker and the networks will have to update their criticisms.

I loved everything: the setting of the place, the attention of the staff, the vegetable soup (very delicious), the guanaco lasagne and dessert (an apple cake with ice cream...super!) I'd come back! I recommend it!

We had dinner here on our first night in El Chalten. This restaurant does not take reservations. We recommend getting to the restaurant early (by 6 pm) for a table, as the place filled-up by 7 pm.
This is a small, rustic place with lots of history on the walls. The food is very good and the service is relatively fast (for Argentina).
We recommend eating here for one of your nights in town.

Great food and service, very local atmosphere and the food was reasonable and tasted great. It does get busy so but we didn’t have a problem when we went at 7:15 but it filled up by 8pm. It’s my wife and I loved the food and you don’t need any starters/apps as the meals are a nice portion. Prices are great as at a $410 peso to dollar rate it’s about $15-$18 for a meal. They also except credit card and have the black market rate for exchange which is great.

The staff where good but our steaks (and lots of us had them - there were 15 of us) were disappointing.
Most of us asked for our steaks to be cooked medium rare. All of them came cooked between medium and well done. They were very dry (both types of steak which are going their menu).
One of our party decided to go for medium rare instead of medium, and when he told the waitress she didn't amend the order, which is when we suspected that they cook all steaks the same, no matter what you ask for.
Some of our party went for the casserole and they enjoyed that, and we had a tasty salad. However the ruined steak was the real problem. You might ask why we didn't complain? One incorrectly cooked steak may be excused, but 6 or more cannot. 6+ people asking for new steaks would cause a problem. Everywhere else in Argentina we have had perfectly cooked meat. But not here. I can't comment on the other dishes but avoid this place for steaks.

Amazing place! Our customer experience was 10/10. (We went several times)
From: The most picturesque and clean restaurant in the Chalten and the efficient service of its waitresses always accompanied by a very good vibe
Until: the unrivalled presentation of their dishes, worth appreciating (you can well notice the detail of the imagination) and their delicious meals with a lot of Argentine flavor (very good cuisine)
Standing applause👏🏼👏🏼

Fantastic place, friendly staff. Great food, had a starter of prawns wrapped in bacon which was delicious. We had mains of trout with cheese and spinach, and a massive steak with excellent crispy potatoes. We still managed to order a chocolate volcano and chocolate brownie dessert. So much food and so we took one whole piece of brownie away to have on a hike the next day and it got my wife through the day when she was running out of energy!
It was a busy place, we didn’t have a reservation (don’t think they take them) but got a table at 6:30-7pm without any issue. They accept credit cards.

This restaurant is very popular; so you have to arrive early. Charming and typical place where Antonio, the owner, welcomes us warmly. The menu is varied and the dishes are harmoniously prepared. Each dish presents spicy flavors and aromas. Pleasant, unexpected discovery in a town as remote as El Chalten. This complements a day of walking in the mountains well.

La Tapera is the truth. Everything that comes out of the kitchen is a winner. Beetroot salad is a large, creative, legit veggie dish. The steak is delicious as is the wine. The show-stopper is the Pork Shoulder with honey and beer glaze. Comes with a side of mashed pumpkin. Divine. Excellent service, a passionate team, a unique and confident style. Make a reservation early and if you can't get a table for dinner, stop by for lunch.

We went twice. The first night we ordered locro and it was a weird mix of traditional locro with raw grated carrot and cabbage on top. Almost a hearty salad on a plate of locro. Strange taste.
The second we played it safe, chorizo steak, loin and salmon. Well, without highlighting anything in particular. A very good strip mass.
The restaurant is well located, cozy and with good service at the tables.

The traditionally prepared local trout was superb, highly recommend it. Everything else was very tasty, and there were a few vegetarian options to choose from. It's in an upscale part of town, on a wide street though not the main street, so pleasantly quiet. Amusing decor with license plates around the world. One window table upstairs has an incredible view of Fitz Roy. It started filling up around 7 pm.
