The Numu taproom replaces the Hardrock Cafe which went bust during Covid. The change is absolutely for the better.
The Numu taproom serves draft beer only from the Numu micro brewery near the LIR airport. The beer is excellent and reasonably priced. Try the triple belgian.
The restaurant currently serves only tapas but I hard that a full menu will be coming in November. A friend of mine who is a chef accompanied us and tried the Croquilles St Jacke which he said was excellent.
This place definitely brings the bar / restaurant scene in Playas Del Coco up a notch. Definitely the most upscale bar in Playas del Coco.

Been here twice! Very good food, excellent staff.
The tapas is great, tasteful and nicely presentated. Loved the crème brulee as a dessert!
1 tip would recommend; they price is high, which is fine for quality food, but the serve tap water complimentary. When sipping a pineapple margaritha and then get hit in the face by chlorine water is not a top expierence.
Maybe you can change this?
Then, truly worth 5 stars!

Thank you Brenda for your review, comments and suggestion. We are sorry you may have been served tap water, which may have been a misunderstanding on our part. We do have in-house filtered bottles of water which is served still or sparkling. I you get a chance to visit us again please just let us know that is what you prefer.

This week, I had the pleasure of visiting Numu Taproom & Bistro, in Coco beach. The food, the place, and the service is excellent. Their menu is varied and has options for all the tastes, including vegans. I tried three different tapas and a dessert. I loved it! The restaurant is beautifully decorated and it has a very nice deck. The music was very nice and it was playing at a decent volume, which made it comfortable to eat and talk to other people. The staff was very kind and they were often checking on me to make sure that I was comfortable. I highly recommend this place! :)
Tapas I tried: Carpaccio de res, Atún tiradito y Trío de bruschettas.
Dessert: Lava flow.

Imagine this for a moment….. you are visiting Guanacaste on an idyllic family vacation far away from home and decide to head out in search of an easy meal in Playa de Coco. Passing by a bunch of standard Costa Rican storefront restaurants, you happen by one with a beautiful well-lit patio that looks inviting. You walk inside and are greeted warmly by the hosts who promptly have you seated in a large, comfortable, and beautifully decorated dining room/tasting room. Not beautiful in a pretentious kind of way, but in a down-home “welcome to my living room” kind of beautiful… complete with coffee bean baskets in the ceilings, wood tables and accents, and even artisan beer that celebrates the culture of the locals. Oh, and there is live music too!
Sounds good, right?! Now imagine that the food and beer is absolutely scrumptious (there’s also a full bar!) and may even outpace the decor. Too good to be true, you might think?! Add to the experience service and hospitality that is second to none.
This place exists… and it’s here at Numu Taproom and Bistro! Outstanding! The food, the beer (Dang the beer is good!), the feel good ambience. The owners Robert and Lucia have gotten it right…. in a very big way! Do NOT miss this place… it will become your second home away from home.

The four of us shared 3 tapasand a salad. Christian, our fabulous server, recommended the wild mushroom and beer braised chicken risotto and beef empanadas delicious. We also ordered the Croque Monsieur which had a delicious Parmesan crust. The Carmelized Pear salad was also great. We were full but couldn’t resist the Bailey’s cake daily dessert special. Porter and IPA were some of the best Costa Rican local craft beers we’ve had (and we are beer snobs from Portland).
We are looking forward to coming back already!!

We wandered out for a bite to eat with no real plan. Numu was nearby and looked inviting. Our waiter Christian was very good on describing the dishes and the drinks (passion fruit margarita was a winner). All of the staff were very attentive to the guests. The food was very well prepared and good. It is a bit on the pricier side but I understand because of the location.

I can’t say enough about this amazing place. We are a group of 5 women here for a girls/birthday trip and we chose to do coco beach for the day and we were not disappointed. The birthday girl has been following this restaurant on IG so we had to come. When I tell you we were not disappointed at all. We were greeted at the door and everyone was so kind. Our server, Lizette, gets 20 out of 10 stars! She was so sweet and attentive and even gave the birthday girl a surprise!
Let’s talk about the drinks. The sangria… THE BEST! I wouldn’t highly, highly recommend. We also had one of the special drinks and it was so good! Everything on the drink menu looked amazing and the bartender clearly knows what he’s doing! The food. My goodness, everything was so good and the presentation was amazing! They are tapas so we got a lot and shared. We got the special which was a short rib risotto and they honestly need to have that everyday because it’s AMAZING! We also got the 3 bruschettas, stuffed mushroom, tuna, & bbq ribs and literally nothing disappointed.
If you live here or are visiting, run don’t walk here now and ask for Lizette!

We frequented this venue a few times during our one-week stay at the Breeze Private Residences Club in Playas del Coco in Costa Rica (this restaurant is co-located with the resort). The servers were warm and friendly; the menu was varied and delicious, with the seafood being the best-fresh and flavourful.
The SNAPPER "A LA TALLA" was a snapper fillet wrapped in banana leaf, served with minced vegetables, and a basil puree. It was delicious, the fish being so fresh (cooked in its own natural juices wrapped in the banana leaf).
Thursday evening was barbecue night with live entertainment on the patio. The atmosphere was super chill with servers who knew us at that point, very comfortable chatting with us. The steak was tender, juicy and flavourful.
Our favourite dessert was the Four Milk Cake or Cuatro Leches Cake, a white sponge cake like angel food cake soaking in 4 types of milk. This could include evaporated milk, condensed milk, heavy cream etc. it is very rich but not overly sweet.
I highly recommend this restaurant.

We had a great dinner here.
Wings and plantains for starters, burger, pork belly tagatelli, lobster ravioli and the risotto for our main meals
Deserts were great also.
Every dish was delicious and presented nicely
The server was very attentive and did not rush us at all.
Would definitely go back.

I expected NUMU to be another “Meh. That was ok” kind of place. I was definitely wrong. It wasn’t until the plates showed up that I knew… this was the place to be.
The food sounds like typical food. Nothing flashy, but it’s the flavors that Chef D creates. We had the fish and chips, short rib sliders, and chicken risotto. They were listed as small plates but it was definitely enough food. All the dishes were all fantastic! Every bite was so good. The risotto was rich. I haven’t have a good risotto in years. The fish and chips weee fresh and delicious. Actually I thought it was a pretty sizable dish. The short rib sliders were kind of an open face style sandwich. The pineapple and cheese combo really made the sandwich. It was definitely not a typical sandwich. The food was plated nicely and the service was on point. For this beer lovers they do have a variety of beer but I stuck to the wine.
I don’t know why this place isn’t on the top of the best food in CoCo list because it sure was the best for me but I’m a bit of a foodie. If you just want food somewhere you can find cheaper food elsewhere but if you want really good food, this is a place you want to stop. It also has indoor/outdoor which is nice.
Don’t think about it, make the stop. I’m sad I can’t work my way through the entire menu. :( Also, whatever the salsa was they gave with the chips was really addictive. I want to figure out how to make it. <3 Maybe I’ll see you again NUMU.

This really should be rated the best place to eat in Coco! They have elevated delicious food that pairs wonderfully with their craft beer which is fresh and amazing, or clearly thought out wine selections. Ask them to suggest what pairs with whatever you are eyeing, you wont be disappointed. We tried most of the small plates to share around the table the first time we visited, they were delish. The second night we visited Numu Tap, we had the large plates and desserts, again delish! Some nights they have bands and I understand you can tour the brewery! Such a great find!

The restaurant is very cute. It is in a mall complex in Playas del Coco. Very nice area but much more developed than other parts of Guanacaste. Our party of four all enjoyed the meal (tagliatellle, Caprese pizza, fish and chips). I've never seen olives on anything "Caprese" before but it was good. Service was very good. They charged for each bottle of bottled water which we did not experience at any other restaurants during a week long stay. A little overpriced for what we got but we expected that based on their website and the location. There is ample parking in the shopping complex and a very good, large grocery store (the size of a small US supermarket) across the parking lot.

I cannot say enough good things about this place. First, I’ll start by saying how nice the owners are. Amazing people! We fell in love with this beer in playa Panama. They had the kolsch on tap. We searched all over Coco to find it. The next trip down we stopped by their brewery and I fell in love with their tropical beer. It’s not too sweet and has an amazing passion fruit aftertaste. I’m obsessed!
When we heard they were opening a taproom in our condo complex I was insanely excited. We made it to our condo, dropped our bags and headed straight for the taproom. The atmosphere was so inviting and beautiful. Our server, Lizett, was awesome and on top of things.
Now, for the food. Everything that we ordered was spectacular. Absolutely zero complaints, and I just ate at an amazing restaurant with a James Beard awarded chef back home. The food we had at Numu was better. We had the grilled tuna salad, grilled mahi-mahi filet, grilled beef tenderloin, stuffed portobello mushroom, and passion fruit crème brûlée. Every ingredient in each dish perfectly complimented each other.
So, in a nutshell, I would give more stars if I could. Check them out when you are in Coco and you will not be disappointed with their beer, atmosphere, service or food. You can also buy beer to take with you. Bonus!

Chef Nicolas has found a way to provide an excellent meal
at a reasonable price with a luxury flare. The atmosphere is ambient. My family had the privilege of a one of the nightly thunder storms as we sat outside and ate in complete comfort. Don’t forget to have desert..nothing but Devine. Thank you Chef Nicolas for this incredible wonderful Taproom.

I went with friends on Valentine's day and was very impressed, Every aspect of what makes a good restaurant is taken care of. The ambiance was good particularly with the music. The service and the food were excellent! I will be going back and I definitely recommend this restaurant.
