Adorable place.

Adorable place. Doesn’t look like much from the outside, but food and service were great. Waitress recommended deep fried crab claws which were delicious with a large portion! Also had scallops and shrimp—good prices too. Great waitress!

Good food

We have family in Dothan and we eat at Hunts every time we go. The fried and baked oysters are delicious and definitely what we go for. The service is inconsistent and depends on the server you get as to whether you will get drink refills or service after food arrives. Friday and Saturday nights is ridiculously busy! You could wait for an hour for a table. This place has no atmosphere and usually very noisy.

Good, old-fashioned family stop

Good, old-fashioned family restaurant. Fried shrimp were fresh, nicely fried & just $15 including two sides. Wife’s grouper-finger appetizer with a side was huge, though more like nuggets than strips. Still good. She got a side of cheese grits that were perfectly adequate. Cole slaw very good. Server tipped us to order the (homemade) onion petals vs. the (frozen) onion rings as my other side. Iced tea very good & they put the pitcher on the table for handy refills. The building is old & nothing fancy but worth a stop if passing through Dothan.

Not what I expected

After reading the reviews, we looked forward to eating at Hunts but was disappointed. Went at lunchtime and it was busy but had no wait for a table. Our waitress was very good and had a homey feeling but they are missing the point on their food. We asked for “fried oyster” but not available for lunch so we ordered fried calamari and it was the worst I’ve ever had. I think it must have been left over from Sunday night as it was so dried out & crusty you couldn’t even pick it up with a fork. Also, they had two hush puppies in it (we ordered calamari NOT hush puppies) - just terrible! They served us small rolls long before our meal so they were cold by the time our lunch came. We both ordered shrimp pasta and it was served with two pieces of toast. There was 6 med shrimp with the pasta. It was filling, but nothing great. The best thing was the water! Maybe we ordered the wrong food. Would have rated it 2 stars but the service was good. Total bill with tax & tip was $40.00. Don’t waste your time or money.

Perfect shrimp!

Fresh, good fat shrimp on the poboy and fried shrimp platter. The Gumbo is superb. Grits well made. Platter helpings are plentiful for lunch, may be a bit small for dinner, depending on your appetite. My fried shrimp platter came with 6. Hubby's poboy came with 10-12. Great service. Good COVID safety protocols.

We had a good meal, with very friendly, but not overbearing, service. Everything we had was good. We started with onion straws, which were freshly made, not frozen, and great cole slaw. My husband had catfish, which he was very pleased with, and I had filet mignon and shrimp, cooked perfectly. The only flaw was that they serve the steak in a pool of what is referred to as “au jus”, but is just a chemical-smelling bouillon. Nothing is ever made better by this.

Always Good

We stop at Hunts every time we stay in Dothan. I stuck with appetizers this weekend. Fried Mushrooms, Onion Rings, Crab Claws, Steamed Shrimp and Raw Oysters were all on point! Colorado was great as our server.

Good place for fried food or steak

Had takeout from Hunts and they did a great job as usual. Service was good and so was the food. The steaks were cooked to order and the fried shrimp were still crunchy when I got then home. They always do a great job whether you're dining in or taking out.

Probably just ordered wrong

Everyone raves about this place and maybe I can try it again someday and will too. The service was great and the value was good. The ribeye was on the tough side and not especially flavorful but not bad for the price. The catfish was so-so as far as I am concerned. I would come back to try the baked and grilled oysters again. I ordered the Cajun and they were way too salty for my taste. They were small but I was warned about that and the price was also small. The oysters were of good quality and tasty themselves so I would love to try a different recipe. I know everyone else can’t be wrong.

Decent Seafood

We walked in and stood at a counter in the doorway. Eventually the woman behind the plexiglass told us to seat ourselves. We found a table in the back beside a larger table the servers were using to prep what appeared to be tarter sauce. I didn’t think the dining room was an appropriate place for that, especially since it was on that table, some of it uncovered, for our entire visit. We were given a photo copy of a lunch menu that didn’t have much detail and not a lot to offer. We considered leaving, but decided to google images of the food, which is how we discovered they had steak. We spoke to the server again and she brought us a photo copy of the other side of the menu, which had more offerings. My husband ordered the steak and blackened shrimp, and I ordered the crab claws from the appetizer menu and a side of grits. The crab claws were meatier than others I’ve had, which was a plus, but they didn’t have a much seasoning and were a bit fishy, so I made use of the lemons on the plate. The cocktail sauce was ok, but had a bit too much ketchup, in my opinion. My husband liked his steak even though it was well done instead of medium.

Disappointing Meal

My husband and I love this place and ride our motorcycle about 100 miles to eat here. However, our most recent trip was disappointing. We were given a small paper menu and saw that they are no longer serving the fried oysters or scallops that we loved. Let me add that the shrimp was delicious. The service was slow and a bit rude and we felt like we were begging for anything extra, such as crackers, refills or condiments ,which is not the norm there. Please get back on track and maintain your great reputation.

Delicious, absolutely loved the food. One of the best seafood dinners i have ever ate

Ordered the fried shrimp and oyster diner. One of the best seafood diners that I have ever ate. The shrimp was as good as the best that I have ever ate and the oysters was better than I have ever ate...OMG. The items on the salad bar was as fresh as any salad bar I have ever ate. I highly reccomend this place and when I do return to the area, this will be my 1st choise of restaurants to eat at

A Valentine's Day to Remember

The place was very busy so we had over an hour wait. We finally asked the hostess a second time when we would be seated as we saw folks who were in line after us being seated. We finally got a table and order some Oyster appetizers and beer. Those items made it to our table in good time. However, after that, we waited for over 45 minutes to get our steak and shrimp entrees. As for service, we saw our waitress twice and had most of service from other waitresses walking past. As we never got a bill from our waitress, we attempted to pay at the counter. We offered up our story as to why we had not check and the poor service. We did get a 20% discount on the food. The food was good; the experience was lacking. I doubt we would try the place again.

We ate here Friday, 5-14-21. Four of us, steak, shrimp, oysters, and crab claws were all perfect. Highlight of of our visit was Ms. Debbie. Never had a server anywhere quite like her. She was very entertaining and on top of her game.

great oysters and good service

Great oysters and plenty of food. Server was fairly new as we had to ask for utensils, etc. but very pleasant and got what we needed. My wife had fried oyster appetizer and there were plenty. I had friend shrimp which was great. It is for sure a 'local' place but that is okay.
