Two Rotis ( dry of course )
One Soup ( mini, like half of what they normally serve...)
A sweet and Papad...
Three sabjis..
Basmati rice and Veg Biriyani ( one katori each )
At Rs.150/ you cant ask for more.... 70%+ satisfaction is most likely even for any demanding customer like me....

After a gap of 30 years, I happened to visit this place again. This used to be my daily morning Idli and coffee stop during my childhood days and vacation at my grandparents house which was just 2 mts from this place. The place has managed to retain it charm but of course lots of development, flyover etc has marred the old beauty of this hotel. Still offers good veg but they seem to have diversified into other menu keeping pace with changing taste and population mix. Is one of the oldest place in Chennai. I wanted to see if Roxy theater was still there but not to be. Good memories of this very good restaurant.

A Popular Veg Restaurant in Vepery, Chennai
Very Close to the Saravana Stores on Purasavakkam High Road and below the Flyover.
Had been to this restaurant, as it was close to the place i had come for an official work.
Breakfast is OK, North Indian Lunch is limited and not worth it, South Indian Special is uunlimited but the service is limited.
Service is not so great in the Small AC Hall
Food taste is good but pricey compared to the other restaurants near by.

One of the oldest Hotels in Chennai..You will get all vegetarian dishes apart from Lunch ... Dosa Idli Poori are famous... However this time when I went with my wife, the supervisor suggested me to have Adai and Avial. But Yet to my dismay, both Adai and Avial were not in good taste... Adai had more chillies and pepper and that Avial had more drumstick vegetable. Service was good and that ambiance also. Since this is a local and very old hotel, rush is there all the time.. Very near to this Hotel Saravana Stores had opened their Show room.
Parking facility is good... Prices are lmoderate.

I went to purasaiwalkam for shopping. When i looked for hotel to have lunch, the autorickshaw driver suggested this hotel.I went at 12.20 p.m so the crowd was less but after a while it was fully packed. Crowd keeps on coming over there from all walks of life like from lower class, middle class people.I had bought meals token for lunch. It cost me only Rs.67.Eventhough its a limited meals the quantity of rice was more than sufficient.Like a normal hotel meals they provided sambar, kara kulambu, rasam, curd, raitha ,kootu, poriyal, pickles, appalam + payasam. For this kind of lunch similar hotel may charge 150 to 200.Here they charge less than half the price. They dont show their face unlike other hotels who used to when you ask for refilling of vegetable side dish. The place is maintained in a clean manner. For anyone visiting egmore/purasawalkam i would suggest them to have lunch at this place.

One of the most prominent landmarks of yesterday year manages to hang on! Their basic South Indian items still retain the old flavours to a large extent. Microwaving to reheat seems to be spoiling the food. I actually tell them to give me Vadais/bondas/ bajjis as is (even if cold) without microwaving them.
Surely their patented bondas are not what they used to be and they've discontinued their other famous evening item bread peas masala.
I still manage to visit this place at least once a month.

While in Chennai, we ate here several times. The a/c room is comfortable. The dosas are easy, well prepared and with good chutneys. The service was excellent. Filter coffee was good. We had a couple of dal dishes that were very nicely spiced. Overall, this was a good experience. Lots of locals. As a non-Indian tourist we stood out as the only ones there but were welcomed and attended to professionally.

As Lent season is on,we have to choose Doveton Cafe which was closer to us at that time. Being the climate was hot and starving, was not in a position of moving around,so selected this place. I have heard of this place earlier and was hoping to try anyways.
Ambiance : Extremely crowded environment in the Non AC areas, the staff were cool and they offered us a nice table in the AC dining hall. AC hall was crowded too but being the service time it was not a problem at all.
Amble parking on the front.
Food :
We got Tandoori Meals. It consists of a starter (Tomato Soup and Masala Papad). Meal consists of 1 portion of White rice, a portion of Vegetable Biriyani, 2 Tandoori Rotis, Paneer Butter Masala, Kadai Veg Masala, Dhal, Raitha, Curd and Gulab Jamun.
Masala Pappad - Not a fan of Pappads but my wife told it was crisp and great.
Tomato Soup - Single word: Yumm! The soup was thick, tasty embedded in an explosion of flavors. Was a bit bland so added a pinch of salt into it.
Vegetable Biriyani/White Rice - The rice was perfectly spiced and cooked along with a variety on vegetables.
Tandoori Roti - Roti was served hot and soft. Tasty as well.
Paneer Butter Masala - My favorite dish from the lot. Spot On! Perfectly cooked, soft, tasty paneer indulged in Butter masala.WOW! Took a great spin in my mouth. Super loved it!
Kadai Veg Masala - Spicy, tasty veg masala in Kadai style. Not a spicy person so this dish won't be my area of interest smile emoticon
Dhal - Oh dear, Pathetic! It was some yellow colored bland/tasteless liquid to me. Sorry that I tried a bit of this disaster.
Raitha/ Curd - Raitha was great and curd was so tasty/thick and exactly my type.
Gulab Jamun - This was bit hard but tasted real good.
It was 120/- for one Tandoori Meal and of course VFM. I would rate 3/5
Cheers!

Used to visit with cousins who lived in Thana Street a few decades back (when I was in school) particularly after watching a movie in Roxy Talkies. They have traditionally maintained the standards. Though cleanliness can be better. Taste & value for money is unbeatable. You get thali (meals) served on a banana leaf with 2 curries, sambar, rasam, Vatha or More Kulazhambu, curd, buttermilk, pickle, papad & payasam - all for jusr Rs.62. If you go that side - Saravana Stores is very close to this. - must visit joint.
