Pork Dumpling Pork Dumplings has thin dumpling wrapper filled with well-seasoned pork and vegetables making the former flavorful, especially when dipped on their signature sauce. Each dumpling is made and cooked daily to make sure that Dong Bei serves fresh and flavorful dumplings to their customers. Dong Bei Pork Dumplings costs Php 180.00 per servings Beef Noodle Dong Bei Beef Noodle has al dente noodles; tender and well-seasoned beef; and flavorful soup. The former has a mixture of beefy flavor with a  tinge of salty, sour and sweet taste making the soup taste weird but delicious.

The Kuchay dumplings they serve are an absolute treat for the taste buds. Just be ready to patiently wait in line for around thirty minutes or more. We really underestimated our order size – bigger would have been better! When you find yourself in Binondo, missing out on this place is simply not an option.

Order dumplings and eat them on the street. The wrappers are nice and thin and filling is delicious.

Shame they don't have xiaolong bao available when we came there. we've only had kuchay dumpling and it was average. Service was not good either, staff were busy chatting with each other.

This is the type of place you would easily walk past and not give a second glance or even a first glance. But don’t left appearances fool you. The house speciality or best seller as the it’s commonly referred to are their dumplings. You get 14 dumplings for 200 pesos (roughly $6 Aussie dollars). The dumplings are amazingly good.

This review will focus on my first and second (prolly last) visit, hence 3 to 0. When I first visited this place a few months ago, I didn't have to line up (prolly because I went here too early, people flock this place for their "Kuchay (Garlic Chives) Dumplings", which, according to review, is one of the best tasting dumplings in Binondo (Manila). So on my INITIAL VISIT, I ordered their famous Kuchay dumplings. The place was small, would probably fit 20-25 customers at a time. They have tables and chairs, and the place has AC (but very weak). After about 15 minutes, my dumplings were served. FIRST IMPRESSION: Freshly cooked! apparently, all orders at dong bei are cooked upon order to maintain good temperature, and of course, the overall taste. The dumplings's wrapper was not too thick or thin, just good enough to envelope the kuchay filling which is visible from the outside of the wrapper. TASTE: Interesting! I've never had kuchay dumplings in my whole existence and this visit made me want to look for other restaurants serving this kind of dumpling for comparison. They tasted like your regular garlic chives, but with meat and light seasoning. I thought I could make these at home! they were okay, not too interesting for me, but a new taste I think I'd try again soon. Enough to rate them 3/5. BUT everything changed on my SECOND visit just a few days ago, my friend and I went here for late lunch on a Sunday, and upon arrival, there were already a few people lined up, we were already hungry but going to another restaurant will take more energy so we decided to wait. Around 25 minutes of waiting, it's our turn to come in and order. CUSTOMER SERVICE: TERRIBLE. Probably one of the worst we've ever experienced in any restaurant we went to. There's this one female staff member who kept a blank face even when talking to customers We didn't feel welcome at all. We didn't mind that and continued our purpose, to eat Kuchay dumplings. KUCHAY DUMPLINGS - My second visit marked my last at Dong Bei. The dumplings were very soggy, taste was very bland, the ratio of garlic chives and meat was not right, something was also off with the overall taste. WE DIDN'T LIKE IT. We also overheard other customers say "Yan na yung pinila natin ng ganun katagal?" (this is what we lined up for?) FRIED STUFFED PANCAKE - Same sad story. The pancakes were hard to chew, pretty sure they were frozen then fried (not freshly made). Same filling as kuchay dumplings, but with different texture and look. We only finished 4 small portions. It was so bad! Will not recommend this place to anyone. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY here. I enjoyed taking photos of the place though! too bad the photos will not make their food good.

Dont expect too Much of the service as it is always busy. I only recommend it for takeout. and dont bring your car as the street is one way and no parking is available in their place.

Making your way through Binondo's narrow streets is an adventure in itself. It's like a labyrinth! This was part of our experience as we looked for this small Chinese nook famous for serving what many consider as the best dumplings in the area, and they were right! This carinderia looking restaurant prepares fresh dumplings as you order them. Their best seller (recommended to us by the waitress) was stuffed with spring onion chives ("kuchay") and pork. It was simply lovely! We matched it with some Chinese herbal tea (again as recommended by the waitress), which tasted like black gulaman. As to its place, there's nothing luxurious and fanciful about it. As I said, it looked more like a small carinderia. But eating here was really fun! :D

We decide to go here after it coming up in plenty of reviews. Easy to find just off Ongpin Street, It's a tiny little sit down place and so we had to wait in a queue to get in. They were making up the dumplings fresh in the front so you know what you were getting was the good stuff. Unfortunately, they only had one type of dumpling when we went, the pork and chive and you can only order plates of 14 in one go. We ordered one plate and we demolished them all. Such a shame there was nothing else available on the menu, a huge shame!

My friends and I popped in here for brunch. The space is tiny and tucked away on a side street of Manila's Chinatown. You can watch the staff make the dumplings by hand at the front counter which is fun (not for those that are sticklers about food safety and spotless cleanliness though). We ordered the sugar pancakes, kuchay dumplings, two orders of the Xiao Long Bao and fried rice. Everything was delicous, but they crowded the double soup dumpling order into one steamer. The dumplings all stuck together, and as the dough was delicate, it was hard to separate them without some of the filling leaking out.

Found this place online through a well known food blog and literally booked my hotel in Chinatown just to visit this place (amongst others). It is tiny, 5 tables with no big signs or anything indicating where it is. Look closely or you will miss it! This place was busy on the occasions we visited. We just politely asked one of the Filipino couples if we could share their table. We walked in and there is a lady hand rolling the dumplings in front of you, so you know they’re fresh! We ordered the pork and chive dumplings and beef noodle soup. The pancakes are also something out of this world. The dumplings burst in your mouth, so flavoursome just writing this makes me crave them. The beef noodle soup was simple and filling- the noodles had a lovely texture and the beef was tender. Highly recommended, such a unpretentious gem that clearly doesn’t need to rely on anything but their reputation. Don’t miss!

Dong bei dumpling used to be my favourite. I loved their kuchay dumpling and have been buying their frozen dumpling for quite a number of years, actually since they started their business. Lately they increased their prices which I don't mind because every establishment is doing so. But what disappointed me is they are putting too little filling in their dumpling. I observed how they are doing it and found out that the dumpling maker spreads a thin layer of filling on the dough (skin) and closes it. Whereas before they used to put a chunk of filling inside. So sad that a good restaurant is cutting cost at the expense of its quality. I think I have to find another good dumpling source somewhere else.

You’ll feel the typical chinese restaurant here in the Philippines but the food is normal. Price is quite pricey for the value of the food.

I went do Dong Bei after viewing the Food Tour video of Manila’s Chinatown on YouTube thinking it was something extraordinary....but...it was nothing special and tastes like any other dumplings. I’ve actually had better. The servers were nice and courteous as a consolation, however. Yet...I probably will try other restaurants instead of coming back.
