Great Tonkatsu place in Kyoto. Expect to queue during peak hours. Many choices of deep fried pork, prawn. Overall service is nice.

On balance, I would certainly return to this place if I had a desire for tonkatsu. The main event--the tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet)--was quite excellent. There is a range of choices of types of pork, though the basic pork offering is just fine. The pork...More

This one is hard to find as it has a small entrance. While the restaurant is very cramped, it makes for great atmosphere. If you don’t fancy pork, their crab croquet and fried prawns are great. Wash it down with a nice pint of beer...More

The restaurant was lovely, traditional style. There were plenty of choices. Hard to know which type of pork to choose! We had the tenderloin tonkatsu and it was fantastic. The miso was one of the most flavorsome I’ve had. Cabbage was dressed with yuzu, very...More

Three young and famished Aussies in Kyoto splurging for a lavish dinner. We looked up a few places and found this gem. Holy heck what a delight!! The katsu was absolutely incredible, simply sapid and best we’ve eaten so far. And to be able to...More

Katsukura has the best Tonkatsu. I've eaten Tonkatsu all over Japan, and this is the best I've eaten and reasonably priced. If you don't like fat, get the lower priced Tonkatsu, which is leaner. The mid-priced Tonkatsu still far exceeds Tonkatsu at other restaurants. I...More

I ordered the most expensive pork on the menu hoping it would be as amazing as a more average cut I had at Tonkatsu Maisen in Tokyo. Unfortunately it wasn't nearly as succulent and the breading didn't adhere well to the pork. Regarding atmosphere, the...More

Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find
themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited
by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of
