The “newer” owners of the esteemed Athos have simultaneously paid homage to traditions and broadened the menu to include an amazing array of finely selected foods and tasty recipes. Such friendly staff, young yet skillful. The Athos atmosphere invited good conversation. No rush. Start to finish a top performer. We enjoyed Greek starters then dove into meat entrees. Warm pita, hummus and their signature pepper relish on every table. No wonder we took some food home. Go. You will be satisfied on the many levels.

We tend to frequent the same couple of restaurants, but on a whim we tried Athos. My wife had heard nice comments from others, but we'd never made it there. Now, we can't wait to go back. I had a salmon fillet encrusted with pistachios, pomegranate seeds and blueberry served on a bed of raw spinach and blueberries. On the side was a couscous (the large Israeli balls, not the fine Moroccan ones) with diced root vegetables. Yum! The fish was cooked properly: nice and moist inside. My wife had the swordfish souvlakai - 5 (6?) huge chunks of perfectly grilled fish, with small potatoes and grilled zucchini on the side. So tasty, and even more perfectly cooked than my salmon. (Disclosure: had she not ordered this, I would have opted for it). She gave me one chunk, and we still took two home. While we were waiting we enjoyed wedges of super-fresh pita with olive tapenade. The host and waitstaff were all incredibly polite. They were also young (could any have been more than 25?), so I am assuming management works very hard to train its staff. Diners should be grateful. A lovely venue, and I can't wait to go back. Not an inexpensive place, but the value was certainly received,

Everyone on staff was very accommodating and helpful. My wife is in a wheelchair and it couldn't have been easier to access the restaurant and our table. The waiter was attentive to our needs and informed of the menu items. The menu items were well rounded particularly the several fish items; Brazzino, Snapper and Sword Fish. I am so TIERED of local restaurants only offering Cod or Haddock. Duh, we are only 150 miles from NYC or Boston, you would think fresh fish has to come in on a horse and buggy, for crying out loud! Surprisingly the Lamb dishes were limited, although our friends each had the Lamb Leg cooked the way they wished and loved it. I would have loved to have seen screwers of Lamb Shish-k-bob and grilled vegetables offered, my wife's favorite. We will definitely return to try other items of the menu that seemed interesting. A good place to eat!

We went to Athos with family visiting from out of town. Welcoming staff made us feel right at home. The food is above average. The have a terrific menu and their "Specials" are truly special. The flat bread was homemade and served with delicious hummus and tsatziki. Two of us had whole fish which wait staff expertly filleted right at table-side. Pleasant atmosphere. Conversation was easy as noise level is lower than many local restaurants. This place is a cut above. Prices are fair and reasonable. We would definitely recommend Athos.

Went there for Fathers Day. Waited over an hour for the main course after the salad came. When it finally arrived the Lamb was very tough and difficult to chew. The grilled eggplant was not cooked enough and inedible. The bronzini was OK. The only thing that was good was that after I told them I didn't like the lamb they didn't charge for it or the glass of wine. The house wine was excellent though. Maybe it was an off day because the restaurant gets great reviews and is liked by friends. I don't think I will ever go back.

Arrived late at my hotel & quickly searched for a good restaurant. Despite the COVID-19 restrictions and it being close to closing time, they took my order and prepared a delicious take out meal very quickly. The Macedonian Lamb was great and the Pastichio was delicious too. Generous salad & I also enjoyed the Lemon Chicken soup. I hope to return soon to enjoy a sit-down meal.

For the price of dinner at Athos, this restaurant fails! When calling to make the reservation, I mentioned it was my sister’s birthday. Upon arriving, the hostess asked my sister if it was her birthday. Was she supposed to give proof with her ID? My sister answered saying it was a few days earlier. She came up from NYC to meet me in my travels and we were celebrating her special day with a nice dinner. We also mentioned to our server that it was her birthday. I noticed that there was a cake brought to a nearby table who were celebrating a b-day also. The owner came by our table after visiting with other tables and asked how everything was (a nice gesture) but the sensation was that she was just going through the motion (checking the box). When the response was “ok”, she quickly left us probably avoiding what might be a complaint. I have eaten at many very good Greek restaurants and the food here is a hit or miss. (Mostly miss!) The Saganaki was good with a nice presentation with setting the Ouzo on fire table side. The grilled Octopus was ok but the entree was supposed to come with a medley of vegetables and it was served with green beans only. The server did bring the correct veggies after we alerted her. The Macedonian Lamb was overcooked when I asked for medium-rare. This is supposed to be one of the finest Greek restaurants in the country?!!! Then, my sister decided to order a dessert after I payed the bill. Then the server brought a bill for the dessert which my sister paid. I tipped over 20% of the total bill nevertheless because the server was trying to do a good job and needs to make a living. I guess this establishment is really trying hard to make it at the expense of the guests. My suggestion is that they pay more attention to the details. The restaurant was very busy on a weekday evening so they must be “making it”. They would never survive in a big city with good competition.

Had a great meal at Athos! Sat at the bar…the bartender makes a killer French Martini . I ordered the bronzini (fish) and it was cooked to perfection with green beans and rice. I highly recommend this restaurant. My husband had the shrimp dinner and cleaned his plate.

We have only had a limited experience with Greek food and our waiter, Arnole, was encyclopedic in his knowledge of both the food and the wine list. From the Greek spread sampler to the Greek wine, salad and moussaka (the Mrs. had chicken, moist, tender and delicious) everything was excellent. We were pretty well stuffed after the meal, but didn't want to leave the experience incomplete, so we split a lovely and generous piece of baklava. For the quality of the food and service I found the price to be very reasonable. Wonderful night.

Athos is consistently authentic and delicious with an unbeatable price point. With friendly and attentive staff; and an attractive and warm ambience there is no better place to dine in Albany. I've hosted dinner presentations for work, eaten with friends, and dined alone at the bar and every time I've been met with exceptional service. The staff is engaging and takes the time to talk to each guest as they are sat, and throughout the meal. The staff also works as a team - everyone pitches in to help deliver food/clear dishes. Shout out to Assistant Manager Kemena Cruz for her gracious hospitality. I eat at Athos every time I visit from NYC.

We made reservations for inside. When we arrived it was such a beautiful night we asked to be seated outside. It was not a problem, in fact the hostess did not miss a beat! Nisha was our server and she was delightful! So knowledgeable and lovely. The food was the best we have had in so long. We started with appetizers and also bread with olive tapenade was served. It was so good!! We ordered dinners which were both delicious. One of which was the lamb chops. I'm just going to say...get them you won't be sorry!

Every bite was superb! Minor issue was our server, who was friendly and helpful, was handling a lot of tables, maybe they were short of staff, but here carriers were terrific, too. 4.8 for service. Atmosphere is very nice as well. Now food. I have never been served an olive assortment that was warmed, really elevates the flavors. They start you off with pita and minced roasted red pepper, delish. Our other appetizer was the goat cheese flambéed in ouzo, yummy. The server misunderstood my order and brought me lamb shank instead of the rabbit dish, but it was soooo good I kept on eating. My wife had the pastichio which she was having for the first time properly made. Portions were so generous on both plates we brought home the next days meal. Dessert was a rice pudding with essence of orange, very good. The topper for the whole meal was a flaky pastry filled with custard and served warm, the definition of decadence! We WILL return. This is a destination restaurant, make the trip.

This place has it all! Incredible staff, food, ambiance and owner. Dined here on a work trip from Boston on a night where the power suddenly went out due to a car accident. The experienced staff and owner made due and whipped up a candlelight experience with incredible food! The owner put together an array of treats; lemon orzo soup (must have), Greek salad, a beautiful shrimp dish etc. Every dish was impeccable quality and flavor. The staff and owner ensured we felt at home and thanks to them I had one of the best meals and dining experiences of all time. I will be back next time I am in town! Thank you for a wonderful night.

Yesterday, on a whim my wife and I happened to stop in for lunch. We ordered the Mezze Platter and Falafel as appetizers. Both were incredible! For our entrees, we ordered Moussaka and Chicken Souvlaki. All of the food and service were magnificent and highly recommended. As the meals are prepared individually, and with great care, the wait time was a bit longer than in some other restaurants however, we had no complaints, and it was well worth the extra few minutes. A true dining experience worthy of 5 out of 5 stars!

Wife and self had dinner at Athos earlier tonight. Food excellent as ever, and service better than during past visits. At first we thought that the service is a bit sluggish. But then Ali, the new proprietor, noticed that we were waiting and came over to introduce himself and take our order. He explained that he took over the operation with his brother as the chef quite recently. He didn't say it but we kind of guessed that the waitstaff are largely new to the establishment and are still learning the new systems and arrangements. But they are quite professional. Our server Steve and his colleagues were very accommodating and attentive. Now to the main points: the food. All of it was very well prepared indeed. Some was plain outstanding. We shared the keftedakia (mixed beef and lamb meatballs) and kolokithakia (deep fried crispy zucchini slices) as starters. The kefte were way above average (we have eaten versions of this staple at a lot of Mediterranean and Middle eastern restaurants all over the world, and this specimen was one of the very best ever. Both starters were supposed to be served with tzatziki/cacik. But were served with ezme (a kind of salsa) instead. And this substitution was welcome. The small pita wedges were very nice too, warm, chewy and soft. For the main dish, Wife chose grilled eggplant served with roast peppers, tomatoes and melted cheese. Nicely done! The eggplant was well balanced: neither mushy nor leathery, and kept its taste distinct against the garnish. Self chose shrimp sauteed in a tomato sauce with ouzo/raki. Nice, though not quite outstanding. Then again, Albany is not well-known as a seaport, is it. That was more than enough food, so we declined dessert. BUT we ordered a takeout that we will eat tomorrow. An order of fried calamari, some cheese bourekas and for the mains, vegetarian stuffed peppers and an order of youvetsi/guvec which should be lamb shank. Overall, an excellent experience. We felt welcomed warmer than during our previous visits. Ali certainly knows how to be a top-notch host.
