Visited Cantina de Frida on a Friday evening, excited to try out their tacos and burritos, however was faced with a rather comic situation...Apparently this restaurant considers Friday and Saturday as the weekend days and on weekend days they do not serve any tortilla based...food. Now that was shocking to hear. The waiter explained that in order for a tortilla based food to be prepared, it has to go through three chefs. One chef cuts the ingredients, the other fills the tortillas etc. They get a lot of burrito/tacos orders and they cannot keep up with them. In my opinion, this type of excuse is rather poor and unacceptable for such a dining place.
After being rejected for tacos/burritos we had to opt for their meat dishes, for the main course. The waiter recommended us to take a mix of different meat and we agreed. The meat was tasty, medium rare cooked (luckily i enjoy medium rare meat, however many people do not enjoy it so i cannot imagine how they would feel if they were given the plate. A quick question by the waiter regarding the cooking style should not be too bad...). We also ordered salads and cheese/meat boards and they were tasty. For dessert we ordered a Basque cake and it was fine yet nothing special.
The restaurant overall looks fancy and decorated in Frida style and there is live music every night. We were seated outside and one thing that bothered me was that there were many spiders hanging from the ceiling. Some of them got really close to us and our food. I understand, it is very close to the river and its normal to have insects but they should clean the ceiling once in a while.
To sum up, the restaurant offers high quality food but was dissapointed with their burrito/taco policy especially because its a pretty expensive restaurant. The waiters should work more on their behavior with the customers and be more welcoming when the guests are arriving. It is an interesting experience but im not sure if i would visit Cantina de Frida again.More
