Katong is well known for 3 things in Singapore: its typical Pernakan houses, the ability of its local commerce to sell average coffee for 10 bucks, and Katong Laksa. I go there every week. After 1 year in Singapore, it is the best Laksa around. The soup is excellent, you can get chicken or seafood and get different sizes. I would definitely recommend Otah with the Laksa too. If you're not into spicy food, you can get a good meal with Nasi Lemak and Dim Sum.

Our hotel recommended 328 Katong Laksa as a place to get laksa so when we stumbled upon it, we tried it out. I had my husband sit at a table outside while I ordered at the counter. I ordered the shredded chicken laksa because I didn't want any prawns or clams but I guess they use the same curry broth as it did taste fishy when I tried it. I added the additional hot sauce packets and it was fairly palatable at that point. The noodles are rice noodles and also not my favorite. It was worth a try. I also had the limeade to cool down with since it was still humid outside. My husband did not care for it so we had to go somewhere else for him. 328 Katong Laksa is popular with the locals, tourists, and celebrities, as evident by the photo with Gordon Ramsay on the wall. They have multiple locations in Singapore so stop by if you want to try some laksa.

We visited the restaurant for early dinner on a weekday. Had the laksa and otah! This is not just a restaurant in the busy East side area that only cares about throughput. Their dishes were authentic and we couldn’t fault anything we had. The restaurant itself was cozy and clean. I can give to 10 out of 10 as minimum as they deserve more than that 10 times.

It supposed to be one of the best. However the experience and food quality is sub standard. When ordering the food I asked for can add cockles repeated times , the cashier didn’t even understand what I told her. $5.50 perihelion with few strips of fish cake and probably less than 10 cockles is kind of expensive! I also believe list MSG added into the soup as I really felt thirsty and uncomfortable the whole afternoon. You can find a better one in Spore!

Tourist trap! This laksa restaurant, popular on social networks, only serves average laksa, very flavored with coconut juice, of course, but the ingredients such as shrimp and seafood are almost non-existent, poor portions, and the rice noodles are cut up. . This is no longer the good traditional laksa. Hawker centers in Singapore have stalls that cook and serve the best authentic laksa. For poor quality and a boui boui fast food setting where you have to wait in the queue, avoid without regret.

It's a three-minute walk from the Mercure Hotel. You can easily find it. You order at the register and then it's self-service. It's quick and easy. A small bowl for $7 is enough. It's a little spicy. The soup stock has a complex flavor. The coconut milk is a bit strong. But it's delicious. If you're in Singapore, you should try it.

Arrived at 9.30am and noticed a short queue of two to three people waiting outside. Shop opened 10 minutes late at 9.40am. Only the laksa was available - the entire list of dim sum that we hoped to get for our kids were not available till after 10am. I think the staff only just started to steam the frozen dim sum so it takes time for the dim sum to be cooked. Thank goodness a supplier seemed to have just delivered the pre-packed Nasi Lemak, if not the kids would have no non-spicy food options to eat at this store. Otah wasn't available too... S$7 got us a small bowl of laksa that somehow... didn't taste like what it used to be. Can't quite put a finger to it. Was it because we all got more used to the version of the S$5.80 laksa that was easily available from the numerous Ya Kun outlets, the version that contains visible prawns, tau pok (dried bean curd) and an egg (inclusive, not as an add-on)? Felt a little sad that since its expansion (it currently has three other outlets island-wide), that neither the founder nor the son are here at its original outlet, and the staff seemed disinterested to keep up to its original standards. I guess it's not easy to get committed staff to help maintain a food business... even for a Gordon Ramsay-defeating-dish. The numerous photographs of stars who dined here, seemed to be of a bygone era...

I used to live in Singapore and regularly went for a laksa there. Every time I come visit Singapore on holidays I go there, because the laksa was out of this world. My recent visit was such a disappointment... First of all, most of the bowl content is gone: a lot of spaghetti, not much anything else. The laksa tste is still there and awesome, but the dish is now more like spaghettis in soup. I feel lucky though that there was no sea food because one of my party friends got very bad food poisoning that night. Secondly, the owner is rude and aggressive, his boss wife even worse. I asked for a small empty bowl, which is the local way of eating from a big bowl, he huffed and puffed, took a bowl with his dirty fingers in it and then after his wife barked at us that my party of 3 ordered 2 dishes and not 3 he ran after me, physically stopped me and ripped the bowl off my hands, with agressive words and scary behavior. What on Earth is wrong with those people ??? Lastly, the place is dangerously dirty. The laksa bowls are obviously not cleaned (lots of dried out food all over the sides, etc), the table tops super sticky, I should have brought my own spoon. I have no idea why this place has gone wrong, it is disappointing, and more importantly a health hazard. If they can't stand clients or cooking anymore they should sell, FCS.

This particular shop has become famous over the years. I could still remember it was then housed in a old coffee shop and no air conditioned. Katong was once filled with shops selling laksa but today, only 328 Katong laksa remains. Apparently from the wall, you can see that many celebrities, both local and foreign have visited the shop for their bowl of laksa whenever they are in singapore. I guess that speaks volume about their famous laksa. It’s still one of the better one in Singapore even though now, they have many branches in Singapore. Oh yes, I remember some years back, they beat Gordon Ramsay in a laksa challenge which shot them to fame! Try it if you are in Singapore!

The chilli crab pau was pretty good. So was the salted egg custard pau. Lo Mai Kai on the other hand, could be better. But best of all, the prices were pretty cheap especially since the place had air-conditioning.

In my previous SGP trip I had a great experience eating here. This time around i def noticed they skimped on the ingredients. The sign of an over-hyped industrialized tourist spot. Got the standard laksa, the broth was still excellent as I remembered: rich, creamy, smooth & packed with spices & full of flavors. But it only contained basic ingredients such as some bean sprouts & a few cockles, no other seafood (e.g. shrimps) unless you pay extra. Standard katong atyke short rice noodles that can be eaten with spoon only. The $2 nesi lemak wrapped in leaf: very forgetable, rice was dry & not much flavor even with their samba sauce. It also contained a sorry-looking small dry fish. Overall the broth of their laksa is still one of the best I have ever had. I just don’t like the fact that they took advantage of their fame & skimped on other ingredients. I ate at multiple great laksa places, including its equally famous competitor across the street as well as the trishaw laksa in Hon Lim center, they both had descend amount of “seafood” in their standard basic laksa.

They are said to be serving undoubtedly one of the best Laksa in Singapore. As I entered the place super excited, there was a certain aroma lingering around and without wasting further time quickly ordered the classic laksa bowl. Super fast service as I was immediately served with the bowl of Laksa within a few minutes of ordering. As I sipped on the first portion, the aromatic coconut based creamy soup gave me wings 😁. The gravy is the epitome of balance in taste and the texture comes from the perfect blending of the ingredients such as coconut milk, chili, dried shrimps, and herbs. However the noodles felt too soft on the mouth (my opinion) and could have been more thicker. Overall it was satisfying and would love to visit sometime soon.

Visited recently and was no longer blown away. Temperature was not hot enough, noodles were firm and their sambal chilli came in packets. Asking for more seems to warrant displeasure.
