We asked our concierge at the King David hotel for a recommendation for a more casual dinner option at a nearby restaurant . Luckily among his options was the Deja bu and we had a great evening . The building is quirky, with glass walls on the exterior and interior giving a garden house feel. The atmosphere is fun, and the crowd very mixed , old and young. (Late at night it gets more young patronage apparently) . From arrival the energy of the place was conveyed by our welcome and the buzz of the varied groups and couples. Our waitress , Dafna , was quick to offer explanations of the dishes , advice on how to share options etc. She was spot on in her suggestions. The menu is essentially modernised traditional dishes and caters to most tastes. The service was very friendly and efficient. We adored the pani and the eggplant! The owner, Sion, came over to check we were enjoying our meal and thank us for our custom, which was a nice touch. He is an avid sports fan and we got into an enjoyable short discussion on the premier and champions league before he moved on to check in with others. The price of the meal , including drinks, was very reasonable. If you want a casual upbeat atmosphere with some great tasting food then visit. I only wish I’d asked for an explanation of the Bu in the restaurant name.

Five star food at reasonable prices, with the friendliest staff in Jerusalem. We’ve dined all over Jerusalem for many years. Usually to get quality Israel restaurant food, you have to pay in both price and waiting for a table. We ate at Deja Bu on Motze Shabbat and got a table right away. The restaurant was lively, but cozy. The food was beyond great, especially for what it cost! Sasha was an excellent guide for our meal. She made great recommendations and gave us the most friendly and attentive service I can remember receiving in years in Israel. Deja Bu is worth visiting just in hopes of having her wait on your table. The deserts were 5/5. Amazing flavor. And the special for Saturday evening - filet, foie gras, pineapple and mushroom - was excellent. Highly recommend this place!

This week in Jerusalem it’s about finding great spots to each and Deja Bu offered a simple menu with great food. We sat near the bar area and enjoyed a selection of their items. Great location as well and the service from Sasha was fantastic. She looked after us and made it a personal experience which makes a difference when you’re new in town and experimenting with finding the best places to eat. Thank you Sasha and Deja Bu!

We had great food. The servers were knowledgeable of the menu items and their recommendations for us on an individual basis were perfect. Good beer selection too. The salads were great and the tuna tartar is not to be missed. Very unique appetizer. I had the sharma and it was NOT like the street food type. Much better. They gave us an appetizer on the house. Timing between dishes was perfect from the kitchen.

Bar is located in very good place in the center of the park in downtown. Leading position in TA rating is always a best recommendation for me, but unfortunately not for the "Deja bu". Fish balls was almost without seviche (not as on TA pictures), fried fish looked baldly, onion soup moderate. After getting the bill I gave my Visa card to waitor, and she made withdraw bringing me another check with a total +32%(15% tips without permission and 17% charge service(that is a bit strange for non Israelian citizen)). But ok may be this a part of tradition for this place, it is not a big deal for me. I was not impressed neither by cuisine nor by service, it is obviously not number one restaurant in Jerusalem.

Bar-restaurant on the grass of the Independence Park in Jerusalem. Thoughtful original dishes. It does not pretend to be a restaurant from the chef and therefore answers to expectations. Mainly meat menu, very few fish dishes and a few vegan options. The wine list is small and expensive. After 23:30, the restaurant turns into a youth bar and, therefore, alcohol prices are sky-high. The service is terrifying, untrained and even impudent, it leaves no desire to return here. Music is below average in quality and selection, despite the presence of DJ!! #foodinisrael #restinisrael #lenarestrecall #едавизраиле #ленагидизраиль_еда

Deja bu is by far my favorite place to spend time in Jerusalem. Food wise, as a Jerusalemite that does not eat kosher, i have never visited a place where everything I try of the menu, I love. They put so much thought into the menu and you won’t find one alike in Jerusalem. All the food is heavenly. I crave a cheeseburger on the regular, and they have the best cheeseburger in town. The owners Sion and Moshe are really welcoming, caring, genuine and interactive with the customers as well as most of the staff. They want to get to know you and they really make you feel comfortable and welcomed. It’s my favorite bar to go out to in Jerusalem. And it’s mainly because of the comforting feeling i get being there. All in all, from food to drinks to staff, it’s a place like no other and I enjoy spending my time there very much.

We visited Deja Bu on our last night of a business conference. We did no know that this was the top rated restaurant in Jerusalem. After an awesome dinner, i can see why it is so well rated. The food was very amazing. I must say that the appetizers where so good i was not hungry by the time dinner came, but i still enjoyed the ribs tremendously. Moshe was always checking on us and gave us a great tour of wine options ranging from outstanding Israeli wines to france and south africa. This is a place i would recommend to everyone. It was good for business but i think it would be just as good or even better on a romantic or special occasion night. The location is awesome. Thank you Moshe and Shaked and the rest of the staff for a wonderful evening!!!

My wife and i were recenlty visting Israel and decided to dine at Deja Bu based upon the recomnmendations of travelers. The food, ambiance, service were superb. We visited Deja Bu with another couple, and the staff was very welcoming and made us feel right at home. We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our evening, and the restaurant even provided us with a free drink and desert. Highly recommended!

Tldr - overhyped crocke of s***e. Avoid it and go to satya or chakra instead. If food itself is only a secondary component in how you experience a dinner then you might consider this place decent. Srsly the dishes are simply disgusting. Ordered a "40 minutes slow roast" which arrived after 15 minutes 🤷‍♂️. Roast was crusty dry and clearly not freshly made, just a warmed up leftover. For a starter we ordered pani puri which upon igesting was an immediate gag reflex. Really tasted rotten. We also had some pasta drenched in a horrible watery sauce... Staff was ok.

Disappointing, invasive service left bad experience for all of us on what was meant to be a special night out on a rare evening three friends got to be together. Drinks were forgotten and not brought out until the third time we asked, well after the food had finally arrived. Three different servers popping in and out in disorganized fashion, not knowing if/when we’d been served/ordered didn’t help. The main server that came was invasive spending more time asking us where we were from and why we were in Jerusalem, interrupting our time together, wanting to tell us all about the embassy and consulate nearby and his opinions of it. Serving one persons entree ten minutes before the others, at the same time as the appetizer, and bizarrely announcing without invitation that they might think it rude but they had to eat their entree alone or it would get cold before the others would get their meals. He repeated this when they preferred to make their own decisions about when to eat. It was served cold so hardly mattered. (To the chef…Could tell it was cooked well and would have been good if served properly). We asked for the wine a third time. This time it managed to appear, which proved to be further disappointing as the sever uncorked it through a long messy process dropping foil all over the table, seeming unfamiliar with a corkscrew, no offer to taste, and pouring haphazardly all as our conversation was interrupted yet again by his commentary on why he didn’t like the size of the wine glasses he brought us and so on…it was all just bizarre. We finally got to pay, quite ready to leave, and he asked if we wanted service on the bill. I preferred to leave it as cash as it was a business credit card payment and he said it would be better on card…and then backtracked because perhaps even he caught that inappropriateness. I relented and suggested 10% on the card and was drawing cash from my bag to complete the amount I had planned to leave when he said “10? We’re you not pleased with the service?” We were so shocked by this final blow to the DISASTER of a dinner due to his chaotic invasive service that we could hardly reply. Suffices to say, I kept the cash. (Wish I could have handed it instead to the joyful lady who initially seated us - AND helped him get us the wine when she realized he still hadn’t halfway through the meal) but couldn’t find her and we were so bewildered and uncomfortable from the experience of the entire evening that leaving felt like an urgent need to escape. Not at all the ambient experience this location has offered in the past and will be hard to return after such an evening.

It's unclear why the place is rated at the top restaurants in Jerusalem. We sat on the bar. The service was very bad. The beer was served to us way too late after we ordered it. The meals were served sprordically, one of the main dishes have been served together with a starter, and then after a long time the second main dish has been served. We requested to change the order but the bill included both orders. The atmosphere in the bar was unpleasant and seems like the barmen are stressed and without patience. Overall the place is very סחי

We went to this restaurant last Friday night. My husband had the minute steak and it was thin as paper, tough and overcooked. I had fish with rice. No vegetables which was strange since it was mentioned in the description. Fish overcooked and dry. Loud music was blasting and we couldn’t hear each other. The manager & waitress were argumentative and would not lover the music after we asked nicely. I advised the hotel we were staying at to never recommend this restaurant. Poor value, poor preparation of food, high price, unfriendly and unreasonable staff

hello, here its Moshe the owner and manger. they say the costumer is always right- but would you say about 60-70 years old man who arresting, crusting and shouting a 25 years old lady? that he is right? as I explained you also at Friday night. we have our own way. at 22:30 we start to lower the lights and the music go up. again 22:30. your reservation were at 19:00 and I am happy that you enjoy your company to stay with us that long, but there is another about 100 guests that are expecting to have their experience and time with us, again 22:30. and to be honest- we do everything to make everybody happy no meter what, but what we can do with a person who start to shout and crusting every staff that he see include me personally- Not to mention the sexual comments that the man with the hat gave to the hostess on the way out which is highly unacceptable. and if it wasn't for Mr. Cohen that apologize 10 times for your behaver and felt so embarrassed for you i might thing that you are going to attack her. we choose to host people and make them happy no matter what, if you choose to insulate us in so many way the shame is on you. I hope for you guys that you will much better experience at other restaurants and for me that I will never have situations (never happened in 15 years carrier) like this any more.

We had an unbelievable group dinner at Deja Bu. We booked a table for 20 the day of and they were so accommodating by giving our group a private room. The staff here is UNBELIEVABLE - the service was impeccable, the staff are knowledgeable, spoke great English, and were attentive throughout the meal even for a large party. They selected appetizers for us to start our meal that included dishes influenced from flavors from around the world. The food was so delicious and the menu has great variety so there is something for everyone. The staff was accommodating and very attentive of dietary restrictions from the group as well. Great cocktail list, beers on tap, wine selection and atmosphere is great! The best meal we had in Israel!
