Quality tasty traditional food

I had ordered fasting variety since i wanted vegetarian food as suggested by the lady miss amaharika whp was working the. The food was excellent and very tasty worth the money and the staff is also very friendly and polite. The lady who served mw miss amaharika was very helpfull and kind. If you are visiting ethiopia and want to try their traditional cuisine this place should definately be there on your to do list

Delicious and great value

We visited Kategna early in our trip to Ethiopia and it was a great start. We were the only farangi (foreigners) on our visit. The staff were helpful in guiding us through the options and the price (including local wine) was great value. We are planning to revisit and have already recommended it to other we have met.

Coziest restaurant and probably best food in Addis

So glad my friend took us to this place. I understand why it's rated as one of the best restaurants in Addis Abeba. Although, I wish they served more vegan variety during normal days of the week and not just the fasting days. The staff's customer service is top-notch.

Worst experience ever!!! Shame Shame Shame

I am lost on words! We went to the Unity park location. We waited for a server for half an hour and we were completely ignored. Finally I went to the cashier and asked if we could see a server. The server from lack of experience completely ignored me ( I am a local so our conversation was in Amharic). At some point the chef came from inside the kitchen and said they were not serving anyone in a rude way. I was completely taken off guard so I goggled the local number and called the head office. The head office person talked with the chef and the cashier about the matter but that did not seem to help at all. I was told to wait for ten minutes to receive service and while waiting I could see the chef bring out food and serve a couple of tables that seem to be her friends. There was also a gentleman that was going back and forth inside the kitchen who I thought was a manager but later found out it was a friend of the chef. It was a complete disappointment. I personally don’t think this specific location should stay in business and I am disappointed at Unity Park for allowing this to happen. The park is our pride and this specific restaurant is just an awful experience to have inside the park. Finally, after we were kicked out we went food hoping and ended up in a restaurant called Emoles for one of a kind service.

Great Local Food; No Dancing!

This restaurant serves great local food without the dancing and cultural appendages that other places have. The menu is fulsome and the staff can explain what is available if you can't decipher it. I particularly liked the open Space of the main branch. food has always been top quality every time I've been there. If what you are looking for Si Ethiopian food in am modern setting this is the place to go to.

I love Ethiopian food. The taste, the variety, the spices and so on. Kategna does it better than anyone. I have always enjoyed my meals there. The staff has always been helpful in recommending different combinations to ensure you get the full tradition. Excellent food, great service and the best place to enjoy the rich Ethiopian culinary experience.

If you are in transit at the Addis Ababa airport don’t miss the chance to taste the traditional Ethiopian food and beer! Good price - quality ratio, excellent service and all with traditional Ethiopian dances and music! It definitely worths to stop and have a dish or two!

Great traditional food

We came here on a Wednesday afternoon, and the restaurant was jampacked full of local people and a few international folks. Given that there were so many people here I knew the food must be good. We truly did not know what exactly we were ordering since we just asked for the special, which was tasty. If I were to come here again, I would probably order the vegetarian combo. We were given a seat on the second floor of the restaurant, and it was pretty warm, there’s not a lot of air circulation up there, so I didn’t really like that aspect of it. Plus, when people order coffee, it comes with incense so there’s a lot of smoke in the air. It would be nice if they had some fans or open windows to move the air about.

Careful with what you eat

Out of the many options for local food one of my least favorite. Gave my otherwise pretty resilient stomach a bad experience already twice (Laphto Mall branch). Shiro is better in other places.

Upscale Ethiopian Traditional Food

Casual, clean, pretty, modern atmosphere. Excellent food (if you like ginger, try the ginger tea). And it is fun to people watch. You see tables of groups of young women together, couples with little kids - it is such a nice mix.

The best experience ever

I think this is the best Ethiopian food I've Ever had. Certainly the best butter shiro. Everything is so fresh and delicious. The presentations are beautiful and portions are large. Interior is pleasant and lovely.

Spent 3 hours during a layover in the airport, comfortable restaurant where we were allowed sit with a drink and food and watch the football, varied international menu of food and drinks, we ate v good pasta dishes. Many thanks

Best Ethiopian Restaurant

Kategna is probably the only traditional Ethiopian restaurant that kept its quality over the years. Food is always delicious and the portion is quite generous. Keep up the good work!
