I'm so happy we have this restaurant now in Addis Ababa. The setting is lovely, with an excellent view of Meskel Square. They have both thai/asian dishes and grilled items - I almost always get a steak and it is the BEST in Addis, hands down. They have changed their menu a few times since they opened, which I think shows a great desire to accommodate their guests. If you haven't been in a while, you should give it another shot. As it gets more popular, you will definitely need reservations, especially for the prime hours and for large groups. Also I really enjoy their Sunday Brunch.

We have dined at The Oriental restaurant this evening with my family for a dinner and enjoyed our experience at Hyatt Regency Addis. Upon arrival, we have been welcomed by the team warmly and being seated at a convenient table for a family. The Head Waiter(Captain) Mr. dagnachew was very professional and knowledgeable of the menu.
His suggestion of food combinations for the family to share plates was a perfect recommendation.

Limited Thai and western menu (except at Sunday lunches when they run a buffet). Been coming here since the hotel opened. Since their Thai chef returned in 2021 the quality of their Asian servings has improved dramatically.

We have recently landed to Addis, but we are already regular customers of this very nice restaurant.
The food is very well prepared, with good quality products used and served with style. Service is also professional; a special mention goes to Meseret and Musa for going the extra mile to make us feel comfortable.
I would just suggest placing tableclothes, or even just a runner, to be Top!

Came a little late for the highly acclaimed brunch, so I got the lunch buffet instead. Hands down one of the greatest meal, and even better service. Dagnachew and his team took wonderful care of me and my family, even bringing specially made drinks and dishes for my grandmother who was a little overwhelmed with the choices. Thank you so much for your care & attentiveness!

Arrived at the Oriental with a couple from the American Embassy for Sunday brunch as the restaurant opened at 11:30, 5:30 Ethiopian time. The hostess told us that the restaurant was completely booked and that we needed a reservation. Notwithstanding, the restaurant was completely empty and people arriving as we were leaving waltzed in without being asked if they had reservations. There were no reservation cards on the tables. We were dressed appropriately in collared shirts and the ladies in dressy casual. After being wire-brushed like this, I will not be returning the to the Oriental.

I took the liberty to check the booking on that day, the restaurant indeed was fully booked and we normally do not place a `reserved` sign on the tables. We also do not have dress-code requirements, it is fully a casual experience.
Once again I am very sorry on how you were communicated. We will be very happy if we can have you back to The Oriental so that I and the team can make it up to you, but since it is a popular place, it is highly recommended to book in advance specially for Sunday brunch. Hmmm. First, let me say I find it VERY interesting to see the volume of 5-Star reviews that were made by people who have made 3 or less total reviews on Trip Advisor. Just an observation.
My wife and I ate here for our anniversary. We had an enjoyable time. The food was mostly good, but I was expecting something a tad more magical given the environment and price. I mean, the Hyatt is over $300/night for a room. But we liked the food, except the shrimp salad that the waiter made at our table was so full of mayonnaise that it grossed out my wife. The mixed drinks were ok. Very creative though. The chocolate cake was among the best we’ve had in Addis.
Service was good. The environment was perfect. I’d most definitely go back and give the restaurant another shot at a 5.

The food is always cooked with great care and attention. The staff member is nice, welcoming, and kind. In particular Mr. Dagnachew is very professional. He knows how to take care of the Customer from the beginning to the end of the dinner with a lot of attention and elegance a familiar and warm climate. With his effort always succeed to satisfy our need. Thanks to him the Customer received attention and care throughout all the dinner and always succeed to satisfy the Client need.

Great ambiance, excellent service, and good variety food. Open only for dinner and serves brunches on Sunday. Prior reservation on weekend is highly recommended even if you are a guest in the hotel.

The Oriental is a beautiful roof top restaurant with a top notch buffet of salads, burgers, and Asian delicacies. Coming here with family, I was showered with such an amazing customer service. One waiter, Dagnachew went above the call of duty, making recommendations and making off-menu drinks and options for me and the whole table. Thank you to the restaurant for the amazing food and phenomenal care!

First time visit to this restaurant and it was amazing! Restaurant Team leader was friendly, helpful and saw to our every need. His knowledge and selection of the menu was outstanding and recommended great tasting food for my friends. This resturant has a selection of food including vegetarian. Hats off to team Dagnachew, Will definitely be visiting this resturant again.

My husband and I visited this restaurant more than once on our weekend trip to the city, and we were very impressed with the quality of food and service! We loved the personal interactions we had with Chef Rudy from Jakarta, as well as Mizan, and Tsega, who provided personal, conscientious, and extraordinary service. We highly recommend the eating at the Sunday buffet as well as ordering from the menu in the evenings. Since I must eat gluten-free, I was especially thankful for the many "safe" choices for me. On the buffet, the fish soup was especially delicious, as were the fresh vegetables on the salad counter, the carved chicken and beef, and the wide assortment of desserts, including homemade ice cream and strawberry sorbet...we loved it all!

Was actually my first dinner out in Addis . The restaurant is located in Hayat Regency hotel . We had three different appetisers and three main courses . Calamari as an appetiser was over cooked and chewy , whereas the main courses ( Thai noodles with shrimps and aged steak) were ok but nothing top . The steak was too fatty for my taste . The view is the main plus , so would advise to go earlier to enjoy it . Staff are friendly and general ambience is elegant

I visited this restaurant with a friend and the entire atmosphere in the restaurant is great The food was excellent and reasonably priced. Thai calamari, aged steak,chicken dupling and yum nua was our dish. My highest recommendation place for tha food. Dagnachew is serviceminded supervisor.
