Would love to give zero stars. Skip this place. Parking is difficult, portions are small and quality is mediocre. If your entire party does not arrive at the same time, you won’t be seated even if the restaurant and bar are empty. Tried to dine...here recently. I had to park 4 blocks away because there is no good parking for large vehicles. It was 30F outside. When I got to the front door, the poor hostess (who was stuck outside) greeted me before I was even able to enter. First question she asked is how many people in my party. When I told her it there were three of us and my friends were just 10-15 minutes behind me, she told me I could wait outside until my friends arrived before we were seated. It was November and cold and windy. At this point, there were 8 open seats at the bar and only 2 tables were taken. I asked if I could come inside, but the poor girl very nervously told me to hang on - she would check. I told her I just wanted to sit at the bar and have a drink, but was told to wait in the vestibule area. The owner then came up to me and told me I could not sit at the bar - again, despite the 8 empty chairs there - until the rest of my party showed up. He told me I could go across the street to his other bar and wait for my friends there. The owner said they were about to get busy so I couldn’t sit at the bar. This was so off-putting since the place was empty on a Friday night around 6:00 PM. I sure as hell didn’t see anyone beating down the door to this place where ONE person wouldn’t fit at the empty bar. …or at any of the 8 or 9 empty tables…. Considering this is the same business owner who went on the local news to beg people to support his business during Covid, it’s pathetic to turn away a customer from an EMPTY restaurant. What foolish business practice. Save yourself the hassle of difficult parking, small, over-priced portions and a stupid seating policy. Go to Village Vitner instead. Easy parking, quality food, better prices and great service. Center Cut in Grayslake is also better …actually, go anywhere else than here.More

Poorly managed with ok food. Could be a great place with the right manager. Almost every review since June of 2020 is a one. Better places to go in the area

The owner would not seat us until our entire party arrived despite the ten open tables. We were not even allowed to sit at the bar and have a cocktail, which also had many open seats. It was very awkward and confrontational. We were told...to wait outside in twenty degree weather until our party was all there. We should have left then. The food was average at best and the tab was over $400 for four people. This restaurant was disappointing in every possible way. Port Edward offers a much better overall experience.More

The food is inconsistent. One time it’s chef quality and the next time it’s line cook quality. I have higher expectations for the money. The staff is friendly but the owner needs to go to charm school. Unbelievable how he deals with customers. The seating...policies are ridiculous and you get hounded before you even walk in the door about if you are eating dinner. There are better options in the area for food and atmosphere. I won’t be back.More

Poor customer care. We were party of 7. 3 arrived at restaurant. Weather was cold. Party refused entrance until complete party had arrived. To get out of cold, we asked to be seated as party of 3. They refused. So, we called Cucina Bella 2...blocks away and they were willing to seat us. Dumb policy...they lost 7 meals that night and bad will that will spread.More

this place is overpriced, for three of as we paid $120.00 with only one alcoholic drink... Food was mediocre , cold goop they called '' risotto'' , medium burger, came out all bloody and the BBQ chicken, well as dry as it comes. Something is...not working right, I'm not complaining about the prices, but there is NO food quality at all. I hope it will be fixed soon, because the competition is steep. Go to Montarra Grill , for the same money you will get a great dining experience .More

The best mixologist the best food the best service. You cannot miss this restaurant. The staff is amazing. The respect for your dignity and ethnic background is world class. But the food and drinks speak for themselves. Do not miss the seafood risotto. Do not...miss their steaks. Do not miss their small plates especially the fried green tomatoes. And their desserts are out of this world. We had to get to doggy bags!More

With everything going on in this world it is horrifying to feel your skin color affects you being seated at a restaurant to enjoy dinner with family and friends. I have been to Bold American Fare 3 times and have been told there is not...seating available and the wait for a table would be more then an hour. As we were discussing whether to wait or not , 2 American girls ask for a table the owner started to talk to them as we walked away. Once I got into my car I looked over and the 2 American girls were taken into restaurant. I work in the sales industry and deal with many different cultures and have learned so much from so many people. it is a shame such a well known establishment has prejudice views on who enters their establishment. I will never try to enter Bold American Fare , I will also make sure that my Hispanic community is aware of what to expect from BOLD AMERICAN FAIR... There is so many other restaurants in town and surrounding areas with great food, service and great owners who deserve to earn our business.More

Independent Mind Local Guide · 91 reviews · 8 photos 13 minutes ago WARNING . This place is breaking the required health law and endangering people’s health . If you want a place where none of the waiters, host or cooks wear masks and cough...and sneeze all over your food and on you an inch from your face, by all means visit this place . There was also no social distancing and the owner ( or host) who came within a few inches of our face mocked us when we came in with masks . We thought we’d ignore him as we were hungry , so we proceeded up the stairs only to encounter other staff including wait staff sneezing and coughing on food and on us as we passed . The last straw was the profanity message (F word) on their bright flashing sign towards local leaders requiring reasonable health regulations to keep us safe during the highly contagious pandemic . If they are this boldly disrespectful towards patrons , including children who get coughed on and who see the profanity word flashing proudly as they pass and whose food gets coughed on and sneezed on by unmasked wait staff and cooks , then can you imagine what kind of unsanitary practices they practice behind the scenes ?! Needless to say we decided to walk out of this please before even ordering and we will never ever give them business no matter how long we live in Algonquin. We’ve lived here 30 years and have never had this experience at any other restaurant . We decided to take a walk in downtown Algonquin, and every other restaurants including Port Edwards, Black Bear Bistro, Cucina Bella, and our favorite Cattleman’s ALL followed the health guidelines and required their wait staff to wear masks and maintain social distances. We ate an incredible meal at Black Bear Bistro and look forward to dining again at all our favorite restaurants that follow safety standards and are about their customers and workers health and safety . We have and will continue to frequent all these amazing restaurants that not only have amazing food but also respect their customers and workers enough to require workers to wear masks and customers to social distance and who follow mandatory health and safety standards . I’ll be reporting them to the Health Department and Village tomorrow.More

We visited here on a Wednesday night. It wasn't too busy when we arrived, but filled up pretty quickly. It's not a very big restaurant. The small plates were very good, and I made a meal of them. Crab cakes - delicious. Chicken and waffles...- waffle was delicious, but chicken was a bit dry. Jalapeño mac and cheese - pretty good. I also had the lobster chowder and it was absolutely delicious! One of the best restaurant dishes I've had in a while. My husband and our friend both had strip steaks which were prepared perfectly. Nice selection of beer too. We'll be back!More

We celebrated a birthday dinner at this fine restaurant in Algonquin. The owners (Greg and Matt) are almost always present and Matt is a terrific and creative chef. The menu is unique and the food always fresh. The parking in back make it very convenient...(even with all the Algonquin construction).More
