The food is excellent, and the wine list is varied and well priced. They do delicious bruschetta with goat’s cheese, superb seafood dishes, great risotto, and excellent pasta. I had two really enjoyable meals there in the past five weeks. On my last visit I enjoyed an excellent Singapore Sling before dinner. I find the food to be quite reasonably priced for Perth.
The only reason I haven’t given it 5 stars is because of the hostess’ attitude the last time I visited. When I approached her she said our booking was not on her list. I assured her that it would be as my husband made the booking over 10 days earlier. I offered to have a look at the list for my husband’s name, as she had only glanced at the list cursorily. She instead approached other people who came up the stairs, took their names and seated them. After the second time she did this, I approached her again and said I would like to be dealt with. I wished to be seated, having been on my feet for quite a bit on a day that went over 40 degrees. She looked at her list and yes my husband’s name was on it. She said oh you’re on the 6.30pm list. I hadn’t looked there as it’s only 6.11! Had she looked at the list properly initially, I wouldn’t have been left waiting unnecessarily. I found this attitude to be poor customer service wise. It will not put me off returning though, as the food is so good.

Of all the great things I could write about La Sosta, the main thing that struck me when I visited was their Italian hospitality! The place is a fantastic slice of real Italian flair, and I have visited Italy often. What a surprise, smack in the middle of Fremantle, yet on the 1st Floor with a view! The place looks small from the street, yet it is huge inside, but very cosy, as I experienced in Italy. Mind you, this is not a pizza joint that adjusts its cuisine to suit the locals. This is real Italian food, drink, and hospitality! Also, I must note that when other places turned us away during COVID-19 restrictions, the manager worked his bookings list and found us a place to sit, all without a reservation! I will never forget that now after the lift of the restrictions. If you love real Italian food, La Sosta has it and a great variety, too. They do have a truly Italian menu with all the trimmings, but is it their understanding of how to treat guests that will bring us back again and again! Granted, you have to walk up a staircase to access La Sosta, but all great places are worth getting over the beaten path. Enjoy!

It was a rainy saturday afternoon and we decided to go into Freo for our 28th anniversary and just see what took our fancy for lunch.
We came across this place and as we both love Italian food we said why not give it a try and it did not disappoint.
We shared an entree of bruchetta that was lovely, we had a pasta ragu and beetroot gnocchi and shared polenta torte for dessert it was all lovely.
We finished off with an affagotto and irish coffee.
Whilst the service was good, it was slow we had to wave someone down each time we needed something and there were only 4 to 5 tables occupied.

All going great, knowledgeable staff, great atmosphere. Found some wire in my Rabbit Ragu (chewed on it), informed waiter who immediately removed my plate. ... never heard from anyone for 20min. No-one followed up or offered me a replacement meal. When I went up to enquire I was told the chef said sorry..... only then did the owner/ waiter come to apologise. Suggested to us something would be offered but upon time to pay bill $20 was removed from total of over $550. When questioned owner became rude and arrogant suggesting somehow my fault because I didn’t want a replacement meal- after my entire group had finished eating and had plates cleared. Absolutely ridiculous. Would not recommend to anyone. Yes things happen, chef admitted has happen before- (wire from cleaning pans) but not addressing the situation and offering some sort of compensation is the issue. Do not go here, Plenty of other places in Freo.

Very busy restaurant, well set out on multi levels. Tables upstairs are a little too close together. We felt like we were almost intruding into our neighbours' dinner date.
Service was prompt and polite, however twice a male server bought food to our table that wasn't ours!
The focaccia was lovely, but that's pretty much it. We didn't like our appetiser of the home made sausage. The accompanying cabbage was pleasant though.
My main of the Mushroom ravioli in sage butter was certainly tasty but way too rich and greasy. Obviously, with a butter sauce you expect butter but this was just too much. I felt that I needed a salad or something acidic to help break it up.
Husband ordered the lamb. It was a large piece of well cooked, succulent meat and looked awesome. Unfortunately, it was way too 'herby' for him to enjoy or complete. So much so that he felt ill afterwards.
Didn't stay for dessert or coffee.
Expensive, disappointing meal.

I'm very sorry to have to write a bad review. I booked a table for a group meal for 16. We had to choose a set menu, which I did. La Sosta Events liaised with me and reminded me to advise on any food allergies and that they could change menus a bit if required. The day before the booking I wrote to say that we had an allergy in our group to eggplant. I also advised that we would no longer be 16, but 14 or more likely 13. In the end we were 12. We had a delicious meal. However, not only did they keep one of the set starters as an eggplant parmigana (which I thought was OK as they had other starters that our person could have) but her meal, which she chose on the night was pork belly with roasted vegetables. One of the roasted vegetables was eggplant. We had told our waiter on arrival about the allergy. Apologies were given. At the end of the night we were charged for 13 set meals, not 12. I argued and the lady said that the chef prepares the starters in advance so they have to charge. As I was in a group I paid. But I woke angry the next day and complained. I received an email about 4 days later basically saying she would mention it to the chef but basically they had a policy that you have to give your actual number for a set menu 14 days in advance or else you get charged. Evidently I was told in the fine print this was the case. I don't believe this was made clear to me. The fact that they served food that one of our party was allergic to is inexcusable. I will not be returning to this restaurant and believe that the service experienced of this restaurant is unnacceptable.

I brought friends for coffee and snack, who were visiting from the UK.I have been several times previously and enjoyed very much.We ordered coffees etc,the order was wrong although it was ordered clearly the waiter constantly argued with me,kept coming back to the table and arguing. Then they fixed my order up and the female waitress came to us sarcasticly asking if I wanted more.,my friends saw the staff all looking at me! Although the food was nice the service leaves a lot to be desired.May I suggest time would of been spent more wisely cleaning your toilets up than gossiping and giving paying customers a very uncomfortable visit.I doubt I will return.

It was so lovely to dine out last Friday night with our friends at La Sosta. It has been a long time and we have missed you all. Matteo is there blowing kisses from the kitchen - the cheery owner/chef that we all know and love. The food was just as wonderful as it always was and he is ably assisted by talented kitchen staff. His wife Simona is as charming as ever and we love her new hairstyle. Friday night was Francesco's first night back as waiter extraordinaire and it was wonderful to hear the news of his new daughter and to be able to congratulate him. All our wait staff were attentive and welcoming.
We are so fortunate in Fremantle to have this world class Italian restaurant as our local and we appreciate the warm welcome we are always given - just like family.

Busy Saturday night but la Sosta delivered.
Food, variety of entrees, mains and desserts ordered and shared around our table and each was just delicious.
The pasta dishes were really good and are not easily found around Perth.
The portion sizes were generous and very reasonable price wise for the quality and quantity.
Service was friendly and efficient.
Would go again for sure.

There are many Italian restaurants in Perth and Freo, but personally this one is one of my favourite, I tried a truffle pasta and it was amazing. Just the waitress didn’t tell to my aunt that it was another pasta which could not be cooked without chilli even if she asked for before. But in general good quality food. Very good Italian.

Bad experience! Went for my husband’s 40th birthday. One of my son have allergic reaction to one of cheese bread. So I have to get to my car & hotel to get the medicine. About 10-15 left and the main food of seafood was serve and left on the table cold!. Just finished my food & the birthday cake already slice & served 😡 due to running in time?!
At least sing happy birthday 1st for 1-2 minutes would be nice. So no pictures for the birthday party with nice whole cake! Instead small slice cake will little candle! So disappointed.
So there’s not even time to be remembered?!
Difficulty pram access, and no consideration or any sympathetic for mother whose worries about the son’s allergic reactions by left her cold food on the table? And coming with expectations blowing the whole nice birthday cake for the husband and wow the guests with the beautiful cake ended up being small slice and 1 candle only?
Unbelievable!

Sadly this place is not what it used to be. Last night we were compelled to order our main course at the same time as our entree. The pate was sloppy and inedible. The salad was swimming in a dressing with an unusual flavour -almost as if they had picked up the wrong bottle. The grilled seafood was rubbery and the vegetables may as well have been served raw. We seriously could not eat our meal and the staff seemed uninterested when we raised our concerns. We paid the full amount and left.

Went for dinner tonight with my girlfriend, and honestly, as someone who’s lived in Freo for the last few years, I really regret not coming sooner.
Service was absolutely on point, really friendly and personable without being overly familiar and interrupting the meal or the conversation. Absolutely loved the waitress and the barman who served us, you were both amazing, thank you so much.
Food was up there with the best Italian I’ve had in Perth. The pumpkin and pecorino entree is probably the best vegetarian dish I’ve eaten in Australia, pumpkin was perfectly cooked, just tender without being mush, every element on the plate sang together like a choir, one of those meat free dishes where you don’t care that there’s no animal protein on the plate and it would t make it any better if there was.
House made sausage was gorgeous. Rich and fatty without being unpleasantly greasy, some pickled red cabbage balanced it out beautifully, really stunning entree.
Mains were spot on too. I had the pappardelle with lamb ragu, beautifully cooked lamb, just soft enough to be a sauce without being over cooked to a paste, pasta was great, that perfect sweet spot between rustic and refined, legitimately al dente and with a flavour and texture of its own, not just a background element to a sauce.
My partner had the pasta of the day, which was a pork and mustard ravioli, with a simple butter, sage and Parmesan sauce. I won’t go into detail too much because it was a special, so it’s not like you’ll be able to try it, but suffice to say, it was beautiful.
Cocktails were great as well, and some of the unusual beers and wines were a great touch.
I’ll be perfectly honest, desserts were not in the same class as the savoury dishes. Not to say they were awful, they were perfectly okay, just not “wow” like the starters and mains.
All in all, best Italian in Freo, and the price was comparable to the terrible tourist trap joints on the strip.
So do yourself a favour and go here immediately.

Three of us ate there last night. First up, the restaurant looks really stylish and inviting and unfortunately as “walkins” there were no available tables outside - we were happy with a booth.
The beef carpaccio was beautifully presented but the aragula was rather too bitter for the delicacy of the dish. We mentioned this to the young waiter who very politely said he’d pass it on to the kitchen.
The prawn pasta was excellent I was told and my squid ink crab pasta was good - however not exceptional as it was just a little light on the crab!
My sister ordered the beef ragu and the pappardelle was very rubbery. When we told the waiter he said “yes, it’s al Dente”. I said no, I’m aware of the term but it’s definitely undercooked. He then went into a rather lengthy explanation of why it was impossible to under cook the pasta made in house. Such a shame as that particular dish really let the place down. Note to Chef: Perhaps an extra two minutes cooking would have made the dish excellent.
I would like to try it again. The space is excellent and the service was very good!
