About
Welcome to “Ertlio namas” – unique family space where refined historical Lithuanian cuisine gracefully meets modern culture and technology. Lithuanian historical cuisine is characterised by seasonality – people would serve the goods that could be picked in the kitchen-garden, hunted in the woods, caught in the river or lake. Culinary fashion and tendencies of the time were also taken into consideration: Lithuanian cuisine has always been open to culinary trends from Western or Southern Europe and national dishes of the newcomers who settled in Lithuania in the course of time have also been adopted. Having thoroughly studied recipes found in manors and monasteries, as well as the secrets of Lithuanian “Küchenchefs”, we have recreated authentic dishes of Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque epochs and interpreted them in the modern manner. In the restaurant, you will be able to enjoy meals that most probably were proudly served for dinner in influential estates and were savoured by Radvilos – significant personas in the Europe of the time. The house of the 17th century built by Jurgis Ertlis, the master of stonemasonry and carpentry, will allow you to know history differently – not via museums, books or guide stories. Here you will breath in, smell and taste authentic history. You will wonder, admire, discover and savour. When in Ertlis house, be prepared not to hurry – rush does not go with nobility. During the tasting dinner, trying unique dishes and indulging in the process, you will surely find time to communicate with the family, friends or colleagues – such moments are exceptionally valuable and will be remembered long. We are impatiently waiting for the opportunity to share our discoveries, curiosities of forgotten history and noble quality time with you.

Had a tasting menu dinner of 4 dishes and vine. Food was excellent and service was nice and experienced. But all the dishes were served so quickly one after another, that we couldn’t even have time to properly enjoy. The timing of tasting menu was set to last around 2 hours, but we were served and done within an hour. I didn’t even have time to finish my chef’s compliment (even though I wanted to) and I was served another dish still. The same was with all the dishes. And there always was a feeling that staff is watching us to finish quicker and we felt an urge to drink and eat fast. I hope other customers will have more time to enjoy.

Nestled in one of th quieter streets of Vilnius's Old Down, Ertlio Namas provides it's guests with an equally quiet and relaxed luxurious meal. Yes, it celebrates Lithuanian cousine, but not in oversized portions or abundance of potatoe dishes but in flavours, in ingredients from across the country and it's various regions, in cooking techniques popular centuries ago and now forgotten. It only serves tasting menus so prepare for a journey, lasting a couple of hours which will let you explore Lithuanian gastronomy. Our waited was simply fantastic, explaining about the dishes, answering the questions and really adding to the overall experience. Yes, the meals are more a work of artist's imagination than standard dinner dishes but they did fill our bellies as much as they gave pleasure to our eyes. I would especially like to thank the kitchen chefs for enhancing the true flavours of the ingredients - definitely one of the most flavoursome dinners i have ever had in Vilnius. I am already looking very much forward to coming back to Ertlio Namas and sampling another seasonal menu (they change every couple of months) with local ingredients and great stories. And i warmly recommend you to do the same.

One of the most surprising aspects of our trip to the Baltic States was how delicious and varied we found the food. The emphasis on fresh, local, seasonally varied ingredients and imaginative combinations made many of our meals a delight. Although our dinner at Ertlio Namas was not the finest we had on our Baltic journey, more because of our dining style than any flaws in their execution, we enjoyed it and certainly recommend it to other visitors seeking a refined and leisurely dining experience. Located in an elegant two-story townhouse on an attractive side street near the university and a short walk from Old Town, Ertlio Namas serves highly styled and lovingly prepared food in a tasteful and somewhat formal dining room. The servers take pride in their cuisine and provide informative commentary about each dish. They serve two tasting menus – four dishes or six dishes – and offer wine pairings for each. This is not our usual approach to dining, but we relaxed into the experience and indulged ourselves a bit. Of our foursome, two got the four-course menu and two got the six and with one vegetarian we mixed and matched a little and all finished satisfied, but not overly full. Each course arrived attractively plated and our servers described the dish’s ingredients and origins in a manner which made our dinner a most pleasant (as well as tasty) journey through Lithuanian history and cultural influences. Whether it was the homemade bread and butter, the trout with beetroot, the mutton tart with apples and plum jam, the mushroom soup, the roe deer and deer sausage, the baked eel with fennel sauce, or the multi-faceted dessert with carrots, plums, apples, berries and ice cream, no dish was large and each taste and taste combination was distinctive. The paired wines were not exceptional unto themselves, but complemented the dishes perfectly.

Interesting concept of reviving historical recipes in contemporary manner, with stories accompanying each dish. Tasteful menu full of variation and originality (pheasant soup, moose filet), presumably using locally sourced ingredients. Very kind and consistent adjustments due to allergies, but overall the service was lacking at crucial moments. More experienced staff with more training could add great value. The wine pairing was very strange, far too much Riesling and both red wines lacking body. If the restaurant improves the service and hires a sommelier, a Michelin could be in view.

Dear our Guest, Thank you for visiting our restaurant and for taking time to review it. We are glad to know, that you enjoyed the dishes. Wine pairings are chosen by our sommelier and most of the guests like it. We will definitely pay attention to your remark for the future reference. Regarding the service, as we understand, there were moments that were treated not in the right manner. It would be very important to know more details in order to improve in the future. Would be thankful if we could contact you in person for the details. Regards, Tomas Rimydis Restaurant owner/ Kitchen chef tomas@ertlionamas.lt

We choose this restaurant based on other reviews and the restaurant's own web page. That was a mistake. The place does not live up to its promise. Reading the reviews again I suspect many of them aren't even real. Most reviewers only have one review each and they are writing in a way that simply isn't convincing. We had the 6 course menu with the wine pairing. The first dish, cured trout was the best. Tasty and it went nice with the sparkling wine that came with it. From there it went downhill. All of the dishes lacked in flavour. The soup was the only dish that was served warm. The chicken dish I wouldn't even give a 1 of 5 because 1 is at least a positive number. I don't go for a degustation dinner to have a piece of cold, tasteless and completely dry chicken. We mentioned it but according to the waitress it couldn't have been dry "because it was made sous vide". People at the table next to us also left chicken on their plates. A tiny piece of deer in the next dish was overdone, dry and cold. The dessert was cake with ice-cream. OK, but it's the kind of tart you can get at any pastery shop for €4. Here it was cut in half. The serving was quite absent during the evening. Still, they didn’t seem very busy. I had to ask them to fill up water for my girlfriend after her glass had been empty for 20 minutes. The wine package consisted of 5 wines, 4 of them were good but not in any way spectacular. 2 of the 5 wines the waitress forgot to introduce. (Also to the table next to us.) The first of these wines I knew already and the second time it happend I had given up on the whole thing. Overall the evening was a disappontment. The food was flavourless, cold when it should have been warm and the meat (chicken, deer, -not the duck) dry. The presentation of the food was good. The serving was not really present and the room we were sitting in lacked ambience. There is no reason to go to this restaurant. We can all have a bad day but the mistakes here were too many.

This was booked online as a special treat for months of hard work, my decision was influenced by the traditional ingredients and recipes promised. The restaurant is split into small dining rooms over multiple floors of an old house, this and combined with the inability to install air conditioning due to properties age made the room stuffy at times. There was also a fairly large table dining who weren’t rowdy but were quite excitable, so the atmosphere was at times quite loud and not conducive to fine dining (solid wood floors and plaster walls did little to absorb the noise). Each meal is accompanied by a fairly lengthy talk from the staff serving you, so having heard the same pitch at the other tables in the intimate room it felt and appeared strained. The food was of good quality and was tasty, as were the accompanying wines which were well chosen. There were noticeable gaps in service with some waits being 25 minutes between courses. The let down for me was at the end when my dessert was cleared but I wasn’t offered a coffee or digestif. After 30 minutes I caught the eye of one of the waitresses scuttling past and asked for the bill. Very quickly the waiter who had been serving me all evening appeared with the card machine. Due to the shortfalls in service I paid, leaving no tip.

This is more an experience than a restaurant. Wonderful journey through history of food and tastes. Dishes melts in the mouth and service is just impeccable. I believe they only make tasting dinners, so make sure to book in advance. Just one thing – charging 3 euros for tap water, really? Hey, management, really, 3 euros for table water while bill for two is 100-150 EUR anyway? I still think this is a five-star experience, given great fusion of service and food, but decision to charge for tap water is just odd.

I recommend visiting this restaurant as a must when you are in Vilnius. First, it is located in the city center on an old street and has an elegant interior. Secondly, you will definitely be impressed by the dishes that you will eat. These are incomparable and unforgettable tastes, and your eyes will be delighted by the original presentation of dishes. The waiters impressed me with their attentiveness and knowledge of the history of Vilnius, the building of the restaurant, the origin of dishes and wines. Gentle music will relax your mind after everyday tasks. You will feel like you are at the reception of the Lithuanian king⚜️👑

We had a superb six course dinner with wine pairing. Every dish was introduced with a short story on how the dish was linked to Lithuanian gastronomy. All dishes were beautifully plated and were very tasteful. We were surprised that our children only paid half the price, much appreciated. Highly recommended.

We made a reservation for Christmas Eve two weeks in advance. On that day (December 24), a special menu was in place (as is customary in Lithuania on this day) consisting of 12 dishes. The event started at 7:00 PM. These 12 dishes are not very complex to prepare, as many of them are already pre-made. Part of my family is from Lithuania, and I am familiar with this tradition. We arrived on time. From the moment we entered, we were greeted by a not very friendly woman, but we didn't pay much attention to it. We were led to the basement (there was no prior notice about the cold temperature in the venue when we made the reservation), but luckily, I brought a sweater. We were offered water, and we requested still water, but it was undrinkable due to a very strong odor and strange taste. At 7:10 PM, the other guests from the basement tables arrived (there were three tables in total). For the first forty minutes, we waited for bread without any comments. They brought traditional bread and then fairly quickly a sandwich with herring. After that, the service ended, and for the next three hours, we received dishes only after asking the waiter how much longer we had to wait. When the dishes were served, they were cold. The soup was served in a plate that was almost flat and impractical to eat from. The question remains for me: if you knew how many guests there would be, why couldn't cold appetizers be prepared in advance? We spent 4 hours in the restaurant. It's incredibly long; the waiters were telling stories as quickly as possible and escaping upstairs to the main hall. In the end, we waited for 40 minutes for dessert, which looked like ready-made cookies soaked in plant-based milk, the kind you can find in any store for 2 euros. The restaurant completely disappointed us; we left feeling drained and with a sense of a ruined Christmas. The cost was 70 euros per person. The 12 dishes were only in words; in reality, kvass is a separate dish, kissel is a separate dish, and even different types of bread are also separate dishes. The advertised 2.5 hours turned into 4, and no one even apologized.

Me and my husband went for a degustation dinner of 4 course meal + chief's compliment. I think the fact that chief's compliment was the most delicious for us - describes our experience the best. Specifically I did not like the serving, because different servers approached us all the time. The food presentation was rushed and unclear. The starter, soup (little cold), dessert was not amazing, but ok.... but the main dish of beef was horrible. It was extremely hard and full of cartilage. It was impossible to chew, so I had to swallow full bites, which was very hard to cut as well. Will not come back again.

The fixed course meal is outstanding and the wine pairing goes very well with the meal. Very creative dishes and wonderful presentation. Our server was Kristina and she was extremely friendly and very passionate about the food and drink. It was really a wonderful meal and I wish I ate here more than once. The service was absolutely perfect as well.

This was my second visit to Ertlio namas, with a different set of a four-course tasting dinner. Both times we had perfect time and excellent food. This time it was beaver pate, crayfish soup with smoked tench, guinea fowl with chanterelles and ice cream with baumkuchen, and, of course, their signature bread with spiced butter. Food was lovely, though the soup at first tasted bland but when combined with smoked tench it acquired perfect taste. Wines were very much OK, though the red one slightly lacked in body. The portions are indeed tiny, the four course menu might be too small for a man, but filling for a woman. Service was very pleasant and fast. Yes, I must admit that the short lectures on food history were a bit stiff and not really necessary in our case because we knew all the facts that were told, so only listened politely.

The six-course tasting menu was an excellent, nuanced taste journey into Lithuanian food culture. The wines selected for the menu were perfect match with the food in our opinion. The serving was also good, our waitress spoke good English. Really great and indescribably tasty dishes.
