My wife wanted to go but queues were massive all day, so we didn’t bother. I was not keen anyway after reading the pretty damming reviews. Got to be pretty desperate to queue that long to pay through the nose.

We had to queue to come in as it is one of the recommended places for tourists. Beautiful place but at a expensive rate. Coffee, what else.
As others have mentioned a beautiful venue. However it is true what others have discloed. Services is adequate at best, and food is very disappointing. Service is incredibly slow. Our drinks (2x coffee) came with our main meals. The coffee's were cold, to the point...my wife did not have any of her coffee (which is €13 °a cup for those who are interested!). The beef cheek meal was not seasoned well, and also cold. My wife's chicken ceaser salad was uninspiring and the chicken very dry. Not one waiting staff was available to ask how are meal was or offer any other drinks etc, which you would expect from a premium establishment. As such most of my wife's meal was left, and mine due to being unable to send it back. We also witnessed the table opposite ours order coffee and cake. The cakes were delivered 20 minutes before the coffee eventually arrived....pointless! As such, following delivery of the bill, which was difficult to get (again due to adequate staffing), the manager was requested to our table. I must say he was very helpful and apologetic. The whole bill drinks and food was (over €110) was deducted by the manager.More
Food was cold Tea was cold Service was so so slow Over priced Over hyped Staff had little interest in being there Building is out of this world & they are playing on that
OMG such a glorious place still full of the wealthyness of days gone by. Chandeliers and a piano and band playing - it doesn’t get any better. The staff are in general professional and helpful but some of the younger ones are a tad star...struck by where they work if you know what I mean. 5 coffee’s and cakes cost £100.00 gbp ….Wow! Been there now - won’t be going again.More
The cafe itself is beautiful, however everything else is just okay. The food was good but nothing to write home about, the biggest issue here unfortunately is the service and some of the staff. The hostesses seemed quite unhappy, a smile would go a long...way. Our waiter had disappeared for 30 minutes and unfortunately others were growing impatient after being seated and then not having any follow up. Go for a coffee and a picture, but I would say to try other places for food.More
Wow! What a beautiful place, the ambiance, staff and everything about it live up to spectations. The queue was not bad after 7pm and we had a very tasty meal with a glass of wine. You get what you pay for and if you are...just going there for a coffee and cake it probably is more expensive than a run of the mill coffee shop, but you are getting the ambience and beauty for the price. The interior is beautiful and lived up to its reputation of being the most beautiful cafe in the world. A place you have to see to believe. I would definitely recommend and disagree with all the negative comments.More
A one hour queue from 2-3pm, all apparently part of the ‘experience’ to get it. A number of people jumping the queue in front of us, claiming they had a reservation (strange that you can’t reserve a table apart from dinner after 18:00 🤔) and...no attempt from staff to control this. Once in, seated close to the main entrance doors, so had to endure the occasional icy blast, so that was nice. All of the staff appeared to be fed up with having to serve customers, a little training in smiling and being courteous wouldn’t go amiss. €11 for a cappuccino is too steep for me. The apple cake was nice but it wasn’t a ‘Wow, OMG, this cake is amazing!’ Sort of cake. And the coffees arrived 15 mins after the food… It’s obvious people go there to get their Instagram shots (even in the toilets apparently 🤷🏼♂️) and there’s no question the decor is beautiful. So, if you like to be treated like you’re in a cattle market, wedged into a tiny stall with too few staff to serve you, knock yourself and go there. If, however, like me, you enjoy a relaxed place to have a decent cake and a drink in peaceful surroundings, go to Café Gerbeaud instead. Much better prices, lovely food and even space between you and the next Instagram maniac…More
aring great reviews about the New York Cafe. I would like to share my honest first hand experience here today. Firstly, having queued for over an hour my expectation level was high and positive, that this would be an unforgettable experience. After waiting in the...snow and freezing cold we finally reached the entrance, we were then left waiting once again without any greeting or acknowledgement. Enventually a rude front of house lady directed us to our table, again without any communication. Once seated we waited a further 15 minutes before our order was taken by a miserable waiter. Whilst waiting for our order we observed the other staff chatting amongst themselves happily, ignoring customers whilst tables are left empty and uncleared. While the queue grew even larger outside in the cold. My food arrived long before my hot drink, which I had finished before my luke warm 24 carat coffee turned up. This was such a disappointing experience for a supposedly high rated establishment. The only thing that stands out for the cafe, is its decor but the overall experience is far from desirable and costly. The decor will not disappoint but everything else will.More
What should have been a treat turned into a terrible experience. We were shown to probably the worst table in the place, given menus then totally forgotten and ignored. The table had a waiters station one side and a door into he kitchen which was...popped open with a crate and we could see coats hanging up. After about 20 minutes we stopped a waitress and asked if someone could take our order. We received a very rude response and waited a further 10 minutes before being asked if we'd given our order. The food was good, the only thing that was.More
A pretty nice place with a classical band playing in the background. You can eat a nice breakfast here, just a bit pricey.
A must do experience. It is worth the hype. I went in with some doubts but to be fair the inside is beautiful and spectacular. We sat downstairs but don’t worry we had a nice surrounding and of course you can move around for photos....They have not fallen into the trap of cramming people in and we had reasonable space. There is a premium but the quality is there. We turned up about 1600 and there was a queue, but it moved quickly only waiting approx 20 mins. The servers were efficient and the hot chocolates rich.More
Beautiful decor, wonderful music, tasty food, desperate service. The location and the decor deserve 5 star. The beautiful music deserves 5 star. The food was delicious, 4 - 5 star. Inefficient bored rude staff chewing gum, 0 star. We had made a reservation for this...cafe months in advance to celebrate my sisters 40th birthday. We received a rude dismissive ‘welcome’ from the front desk. Not a smile to be seen. We were given our menus without a welcome or smile. We ordered our food and drinks and waited almost an hour for the food, no water or wine brought at this stage. We again reminded our waitress that we were still waiting for the water and wine. We waited so long we had eaten our meal before the water or wine arrived. Several staff chewing gum and standing around looking bored and tired of us all. This cafe is busy, perhaps because of clever use of social media. However if you want a beautiful cafe with excellent service go to Gundels, not here as they don’t know how to treat people. Obligatory service charge as seems to be the norm in Budapest. AvoidMore
The location is amazing. A museum. A bit expensive but a good quality. You pay the experience. Service nothing special considering the location.
We waited patiently for about 25 minutes to get in and were taken to our table. The staff member took us to a table seated close to the front door, which is permanently open due to the people waiting to get in. Not a smile...or friendly greeting whatsoever. When we arrived at our table it was covered in crumbs, hadn't been set and the staff member got a cloth and mopped them up. We sat down and we were freezing, we raised this with another staff member when we managed to gain some attention and she said she would ensure that the door was kept closed, it took her another 5 minutes to go and do this. All this time not a single person had come to attend our table and take any orders. We tried several times to gain attention to no avail. After having sat for 25 minutes to be served we decided we were no longer wanting to give them our custom and got up to walk out, nobody even questioned our intention or showed any interest. We complained to the staff member on our way out who apologised but made no effort to reseat us in a better area away from the door. The surroundings are beautiful, however the tables are packed together like sardines and the service certainly doesn't match the surroundings. We went to the cafe directly opposite and had the most amazing lunch with fantastic service. I would recommend choosing the cafe across the road called Horzont as it is far superior. Don't waste your time, very touristy and tacky and incredibly poor service with an uninspiring menu.More
