Arrived for the weekend from SA to your beautiful city albeit hot!
Breakfast Saturday great. Greeted with friendly calm staff and plenty of them. As we were staying locally we called back on the Sunday. Although the meals were good they mixed up the order and didn't appear to be keen to correct it. We ate what we were given.
Monday morning came. No staff Service non existent. After waiting and waiting for table service that didn't come we like everyone else went up to the counter. Single waitress extremely apologetic for the delay. What saved the day is the food and coffee was great.

The service was very friendly and helpful.
The waffles were so nice, slightly crunchy and overall a great choice.
Easy access off the freeway and ample parking.

We went there for breakfast on a (what we thought) was a quiet Wednesday morning. The place was busy, and the good service, good coffee and the good food quickly gave us the clue as to why it was busy.
Even though the place is (in my opinion) over supplied in the gluten and trendy option varieties, there was still enough good food options on the quality menu to please most people. The food was of a quality that it spoke for itself, and that to me is important.
A very pleasant cafe, good food and good coffee for breakfast, with such a good impression made on us the we resolved to come back again to sample the evening menu in the near future.

Five of us went to Hang Out on a hot summer night, booking in advance. The restaurant was fully open to Preston Street around which a number of tables were occupied, but oddly we were shown to a table in the far corner at the back. Within a few moments of sitting we were asked for proof of vaccinations, and then offered menus and water. Surprisingly my water was luke warm. When I questioned this, I was told it was tap water.
But surely no-one offers customers warm tap water in summer heat! Almost every coffee shop and cafe in this town provides cold water, often in a fridge to help yourself.
As we sat and sweltered, one of our party checked out the tables at the front and found one empty that was not reserved. We then moved and at least had the benefit of a fan above us.
Most of the food, in a very eclectic menu, was okay, apart from the chips served with a couple of dishes. Very, very salty, and spoiled the meal.
There is no way, we will be returning any time soon.

Just as well we were kindly given a Groupon voucher for lunch because I would have hated to have to pay for what we're got.
We found it to be quite chique - another name for pokey and cramped. We were also given a complimentary half dozen small flies which harassed us during the whole meal and was pretty unpleasant.
My drink arrived half way through our meal - I've never had this happen at any eating establishment, they couldn't fill my wife's drink order because they'd run out of the mixer required so she had to order a substitute.
The table next to us waited patiently to be served and after finally being attended to said how 3 other tables (including us) were served before them. They got up and left without ordering (a good move).
This was all topped off by our meals. Unfortunately we both ordered the chicken which was very, very dry and over cooked. Really unpleasant.
I see quite a few good reviews here so maybe we but a bad day. But if you're paying good money you don't want to then have a bad day do you?
I kid you not this is what I heard from the waitress to 3 tables (including us) while we were there "I'm so sorry guys....."
Pretty much sums up our experience at "the Hang Out"

A coffee shop that's open after 3pm, yes I like that! I realise it has a bar as well which sets it apart from the average coffee shop.
The service was fast and freindly and the coffee hot.
Gets my vote and definitely will be back, keep up the good work.

Thursday morning. 10.30. Hungry as. Off we went to Como - a riverside suburb of Perth. Not far from Narrows Bridge. Pretty spot for tourists. So we found Hang Out on Preston, Como. ABSOLUTELY SENSATIONAL Big Breakfast ! One of the best! Perfectly cooked, presented, perfectly fresh and Perfect Manners from the staff! BB is 25pp, teas and coffee made it around 60 bucks .. Now that’s not exactly cheap for two BUT worth it for all the reasons above ..
Thanks Guys - we will be back !
