Amazing restaurant with equally amazing staff. Russell people are so lucky to have this wonderful eatery right here in the centre of Russell & it doesn't take travellers long to find out what they could have missed. New manager Goodie ( if his smile doesn't charm you then his personality will ) Has now installed new heaters & dimmers for the lights to create that lovely warm glowing environment. Perfect for that winter night out dining. The exceptional chefs create some of the best Indian & Thai dishes that we have had. Too many choices to mention one as a favourite but Honey soy duck & sizzling steak certainly are up there with the best. This is the place to go on a cool winter night or sitting out in the garden on a lovely summer evening. The food, the staff & atmosphere in our books rate 10/10. As locals we get to experience this every week. At around $22 per dish, you certainly will not find value for money like this & leave the table full & satisfied.

Surpassed Expectations!!

Reading other reviews set the bar fairly high. We got a takeaway for four people and it was on time, tasted amazing and each dish was full of real ingredients that tasted fresh and delicious.... And served with a smile!

We had a very easy casual walk in dinner for 2 on a Saturday night. Service was great and the staff appeared genuine and warm.i ordered the whole deep fried snapper with a chilli sauce. It cost $25 and was a good table sized snapper cooked perfectly and covered with a chilli sauce which worked well. My partner had the chicken massaman curry which was also very good. Very good value for money and would go back for another meal next time in Russell for sure.

Really Average Food & Service

Compared to the Greens in Paihia which is apparently owned by the same people, this was a really average meal to what we got on the mainland in their other place. All the staff are younger Indian and we asked if they had a Thai chef to which they responded they did (Paihia does), but judging by the Thai food we got dished up, I'd be stunned if a Thai chef made those dishes, there was no flavour whatsoever, no spice and salty soy sauce. We asked for fresh cut chilli and they brought some off looking mushed up chill. I got the impression this was an Indian with some Thai dishes added to cater to a bigger crowd. Service was non existent and we felt rushed to order even though there was only a few tables taken.

Great food - nice casual atmosphere

We hadn't made any reservations for dinner for our first night in Russell. We were so pleased to be able to get in to Greens (on the early side around 6:30). The menu is extensive - they have lots of vegetarian choices (for my husband) and I thoroughly enjoyed Thai mussels. The outdoor dining area has some beautiful giant hibiscus flowers - there is also a very interesting polished wood table - it's for a large group.

Very rude and inconsiderate waiter.

We came to the restaurant at 5.30pm. The restaurant was absolutely empty. No one else was sitting there. We asked for a table for two and were given a choice of two tables both in the hot sun. When we asked to sit somewhere else we were told that this was impossible as everywhere else was booked up - in fact only a few tables had reserved signs on them and we were the only diners. We then asked to move the table a few feet to a shadier spot and were told that this was forbidden. We understood that we were not welcome and left. Later we ate at the Paihi branch of Green’s where they were polite and actually wanted to serve us dinner. A surprising and unpleasant experience at the Russel branch of Green’s. And of course a very rude waiter who should not work in hospitality.

Great service. Asked for medium hot, meal arrived but bit hot for my wife chef offered to cook another meal. She said no and chef arrived with a cocktail think it may have been Mango based. You could not ask for better. Menu for Indian and Thi. My meal was great. Nice venue.

Monday Night Dinner

Popped in for our first dinner on a trip up North. Decided on the Thai side of the restaurant although they also do Indian next door. I had a Chicken Red Curry, Gang Dang Gai and my wife chose the Basil Stir Fry, asking for the chef to dial back the sugar content as this dish is sometimes over sweetened to cater to the Kiwi palette. The dishes were delivered shortly after ordering with the rice being presented in a heart shape for my wife and a star shape for me, a novel touch. Both meals were very visually pleasing and the taste delivered as expected, delicious 👍

Lovely Thai food

Really enjoyed the food and staff at this restaurant. We had Thai at the restaurant, but it was quite cold sitting there (July 2020). The next night I tried Butter Chicken (Indian dish) and didn't like it so much, but the quality of chicken was good, just too sweet for me. I'm a butter chicken fan! Great that they offer takeaway menu for both cuisines. Staff very friendly.

Delicious Meal and a Pleasant Venue

We ate at the Thai Restaurant and enjoyed beautiful food, well-prepared, served by friendly staff. The venue is waterfront. The restaurant is quite large, so is spacious with nice distances between tables and you don't feel crowded. Modern and relaxed setting. Very enjoyable.

Curry-lovers' special

Dining out with friends who couldn't agree on where to eat meant Greens, as there's a choice of Indian or Thai food. All of it is good, with fresh ingredients, and well priced. The ambience isn't as fancy as some, but who cares when you can eat this well without breaking the bank. We'll go again

Lacking flavour

Great views, nice wine and service but the food is really bland. Hubby ate from the indian menu while I chose from the Thai. The mussel dish was tough and overcooked but worse still - everything was bland. So dull that we decided to forgo dessert and walked around the corner for an ice cream.

Excellent food; ambience a little thin

The Indian food at this restaurant is very authentic and very good. much better than the exterior suggests. The kitchen makes its own paneer, which is soft, creamy and delicious, clearly not frozen as it often is. Naans were excellent. Vegetarians are especially encouraged to go there, as options are otherwise limited in Russell. The restaurant is in an old house and very little has been done to gussy up the ambience, but really the food is so good that one doesn't much care. Service was friendly and efficient. BYO wine option is especially welcome. We had a great time.

Good Indian Food

We travel a lot including India and really enjoyed our Indian meal last night The chicken madras was excellent and comfortably hot as requested. Excellent butter naan breads. Great service and we will visit again

A good choice for those missing Indian food

We were in Russell for three nights and were missing Indian food so we couldn't resist a visit to Greens. On the night we visited the restaurant was quiet, but staff were friendly and seemed pleased to see us. The poppadoms were not like those at home and very similar to Sherwoods, but we were given a good collection of pickles/chutneys. The curries didn't have a great depth of flavour, but they were perfectly adequate and good value. We ate at other Indian restaurants whilst travelling around NZ and Greens were pretty much on par with most of them so you can't really go wrong eating here.
