Let down!

Been here several times and enjoyed it. Arrived three minutes before opening on a rainy day and was advised to go and do a little more shopping as they hadn’t put the cutlery out yet. So off back out into the rain to wait. The calamari was okay and straight out of a freezer pack from the wholesaler. The two pizza mains were again okay a thin layer of tomato with a few small pieces of mozzarella scattered on the base accompanying around ten baby finger nail size pieces of fennel sausage. No one bothered to ask if we enjoyed our food and when we left with the staff still out numbering the customers no one bothered to say good bye or even thanks. Let’s see if the awards still come in this year.

OMGOSH! THE BASE DOUGH WAS SOOOO GOOD

Ordered at the gate due to covid etc...really helpful English chap took our order. as told, 10 -15mins later we got a ph call to pick up the pizza....m,y gosh that base was incredible and a generous portion of Prosciutto was added as an extra we wanted. Well Hones. well worth it! Cheers Paul and Barb

Terrific pizza and atmosphere!

Ate by myself but sat at a table with another family. The restaurant was lively and fun, but not overly noisy. The restaurant is outdoors so not sure what it's like if it's cold out. The pizza was fantastic and reasonably priced. Great location, too!

Fabulous wood fired pizza

Fabulous fresh and wood fired pizza! Lucked out with 2 for 1 pizza day :) The restaurant itself is in a gorgeously designed open air garden with lots of tropical foliage and under cover eating areas with heat lamps to keep warm during winter. Feels like Mexico or Bali! Tasty local beer offerings as well. Well done all around. Would definitely come back.

A pleasant visit with great service and good food

A really great spot! Shady outdoor tables were perfect for a hot day and despite it being frantically busy we were seated and served in a timely fashion. Cauli tacos were really yum and venison pizza was good too despite not having much on it/being a little overpriced at $38.

The only pizza in the Far North worth going for

The atmosphere is great, the garden lovely. If you're not a Kiwi, pizza in NZ is always a risky affair. The dominance of atrocious pizzas like Hell, Domino's, Pizza Hut etc, has left what I fear is an indelible mark on what Kiwis expect of pizza. mostly judged on how many calories are loaded on top of a thick bready base. It was thus one of the nicest surprises ever to find that Hone's Garden does what every Mediterranean would recognize as a proper pizza, and not only that, an excellent pizza as well. Well chosen flavours, and it's not bogged down with an overload of toppings. The pizzas are magical, several classes above anything available in the Far North. My favourite is the summer pizza with proscuitto, but any which one is worth the effort to travel to Russell. To add even more to the experience, a lovely selection of excellent craft beers, coupled with pleasant and friendly service. My only hope/gripe is that in the future they stay open all year round, rather than close over the winter season.

Great pizza and drinks, but it's about the vibe!

If every pizza place felt like a visit to Hone's I'd eat pizza every day, or anything else they're serving. It's got the most chilled atmosphere I've ever enjoyed. LOVE IT!

Great spot

For some reason it is really hard to find outstanding pizza in NZ but Hones mails it. The bases are light and taste just right, the tomato sauce is perfect, and the range of ethical fresh toppings is so good. The oysters were great too. I am grateful to find a place that serves delicious food with relaxed friendly staff in a lovely outdoor setting cos I'm fussy. Highly recommend if you are in Russell.

Best pizza in NZ

As I’m an Italian guy and know what a good pizza is I can confirm that this place serve a real Naples style pizza in wood oven pizza. The pizza in itself is so yummy, well cooked and high quality product are put on it. Very friendly stuff as well. Well done guys

The buzz and atmosphere in this place is amazing. Food is simple but delicious. We had to search and wait for a table to come available which is a good sign but may upset others. It’s an easy ferry ride from Paihia which adds to the outing and experience. The team working there are friendly and energetic.

Best pizza outside of Naples!

We have enjoyed Hone’s three times during our stay in Russell. Lovely garden setting, superb thin based scrumptious pizzas can’t rate them highly enough. The calamari is also superb. This place is a must during your stay in Russell.

Great pizza, great beer

Great food, great beer, great banter. Picked up a takeaway pizza which was delicious. Saw the exceptional and diverse craft beer range they stocked so ordered a couple and they held back the pizza to give us time to finish our drink so the pizza would still be hot when we left

We walked into this lovely hidden garden restaurant that had a variety of seating options - inside, outside, under a heater or not. Nice selection of drinks and pizzas. We ordered at the bar and within 2 minutes our cocktails and drinks arrived and in 5 minutes our freshly made pizza was on the table. Excellent staff - friendly and efficient. Great atmosphere in quirky surroundings

Awesome food, awesome staff

The best pizza in Russell - light bases and delicious toppings. Salads were also amazing. We loved it so much we ate here 3 times over 4 days, couldn't recommend it more. Also, the staff were excellent under Covid Red conditions - always wore their masks properly and clearly explained the rules for use of masks around the restaurant. If you are in Russell, you must go here for lunch or dinner - just fantastic.
