We popped over to Russell for a quick visit and my partner and I were craving fish and chips. After looking at a couple of menus we decided Hone’s sounded the best (beer battered fries made our decision for us). The fish was perfectly cooked (and we got 2 medium sized pieces), the chips were yummy, even the tartar sauce was nicer than I’m used to. 5 Stars!

Amazing Gardens and Food!

The succulent walls at front of restaurant and inside were absolutely amazing and beautiful. They caught our attention so we decided to try the food. So glad we did. Really great pizza, perfect crust and great sauce. The salads were beautiful and delicious. The service was excellent including the chef who when asked if they had a different dressing for the salad, made up 3 different ones and brought them all for us to choose. We ate all three - wonderful!

Eat the Pizza, drink the beer

Great place for dinner. Pizza oven gets going at 5.30pm and the pizzas are divine. Good beer and wine selection with featured craft beers on tap and local beers and wine featured. The outdoor setting is great for adults and kids alike. Great staff. Definitely recommended.

not good value for money

Four of us waiting at the gate at mid-day today so restaurant was not busy. We were told that 'only half the menu was available including no fish and chips and no large salads were available.' We were charged a 'main meal' price but were served pizza base with no topping on, sprinkled with some DRY salad leaves with long stalks, a few baby tomatoes and 3 bits of uncooked mozzarella. i.e. we could have bought these items at the supermarket and tossed them on the plate. We were not offered waters and no-one came to check after we started the meal if everything was okay. Not impressed. The meal was not worth the price we paid.

Great food, fast friendly service

We came for dinner on a very busy Saturday night and needed to queue behind 4 other groups and were amazed at how quickly we received our meals. Really friendly, efficient service. Great atmosphere with lovely outside area. The pizza was delicious.

Lovely atmosphere

Prompt service and pizza's ready quickly. Yummy pizza's served within a cool area with a fun vibe. Would recommend you not order until you're def ready to eat though, because those pizza's arrive fast and then it's all over!

Great Food - Great Service

We 3x mature ladies slipped into Hone's Garden as it was recommended by staff at the Duke as being conveniently close with good food. We are glad we did! The fresh fish & chips were the best we'd tasted in years. The young waiter who served us, Cameron, was so helpful and kept us entertained throughout the evening. Even the young couple at the next table joined in with the general banter and friendly laughter. A night out made fantastic by great food, service and company.

A tropical oasis

I have been to this tropical garden a number of times and it never disappoints. The wood fired pizzas are delicious with thin bases with an excellent choice of toppings. Great to have a pizza chef from Italy in the kitchen! The casual ambiance is relaxed and chilled, self service water/cutlery is easy and it is the perfect place for a casual meal with friends and family. Highly recommend.

Amazing service

We happened to go to Hone's garden as nothing else was open for takeaway in Russell. There was a huge queue due to a local play just finishing in Russell. After putting our order in, we decided to have a drink and watched the English guy serving customers - he was under the pump but was unflappable and kept up conversations with everyone he met. The Italian guy making the pizzas was awesome to watch as he was able to keep up with the long list of pizzas ordered and put them out in record time. We had not even got half way through our drink when our order arrived. Well done guys and all the staff! The pizza was awesome and would thoroughly recommend to anyone visiting Russell!

A bit of a secret

Hone’s Garden is a slightly secret haven within the Russell village centre. Accessed either from York Street or a passageway off the waterfront it offers a wide range of dishes, but perhaps specialises in pizza, salads and a decent range of other options.. It is good to check for opening hours and blocked out bookings as the venue is popular for family events and celebrations. My wife and I visited for dinner midweek and were delighted with our choice. Seating is al fresco or within a log outbuilding. Outdoor heating is available but the place is well sheltered and the ambiance delightful. Service staff are charming and efficient and the food across the menu looks very appetising. Prices are reasonable. I recommend the place warmly.

Had a school group to feed on Waitangi day - 30 plus students. Pre booked our food, food was awesome, great service and communication around what they could make at a time in the pizza oven. lovely outdoor setting. will come back!

Good pork tacos

We shared pulled pork tacos and fresh fish and chips for dinner. A most enjoyable meal paired with a lovely wine and pale ale. No reservation needed which meant we could turn up when we were hungry. Luckily there was a spare table as it is obviously popular. Yes, I would recommend it.

Gorgeous pizza

The pizza here is fab and it’s worth adding the extra buffalo mozzarella. The chicken Caesar salad is wonderful the chef even did the bacon crispy for me. The staff are really good very friendly and so helpful. The guy who takes the orders is always chatty and friendly. Also the setting of the restaurant is a bit different yet cosy. There is also take away available. All in all a great experience.

Pizza lunch

Looking for somewhere for an easy and tasty late lunch in Russell without a hefty price tag then try Hone's Garden Wood Fired pizzas. A pleasant garden but we ended up with takeaways as the venue was booked for a private function but this wasn't a problem as we sat on the Beach and ate them. Good flavours and ingredients and a hit with our teenagers.

After a day on the water if you are sunburnt, hungry and sleepy, Hones is a great place to stop for a beer and a snack. Cool and casual. Nobody will notice your wind swept look or if you start to nod off after a delicious craft beer.
