Great Indian fare in lovely part of town

Three of us ordered three plates plus naan, beer and rice, and there was enough takeaway for lunch the next day. (Beer can do that.) We ordered "medium" which was sufficient heat for all our taste buds; even mild I suspect would be very tasty. Our order for chicken saag actually came as the lamb saag, but this was not unwelcome. The palak paneer and goan fish curry were equally enjoyable. Raita was thin and a good counterpoint to the heat of the mains. The decor was comfortable, with outside seating on the tourist mall available. Live jazz was being played outdoors for all mall diners next door. A most enjoyable evening.

Great Indian Food in Whangarei

We ordered food which was enough takeaway for lunch the next day. We ordered "medium" which was sufficient heat for all our taste buds; even mild I suspect would be very tasty. Raita was thin and a good counterpoint to the heat of the mains. The decor was comfortable, with outside seating on the tourist mall available. Live jazz was being played outdoors for all mall diners next door. A most enjoyable evening.

We absolutely love the food always well prepared and the staff is very friendly. We find the food is affordable yet still large potions sizes and high-quality products, unlike other restaurants in town. The naan bread is a must-have.

A must-go in Whangarei!

Went here for dinner a few nights ago and man was it a good decision! Wasn't really sure which dish to order so we asked the staff for help and she was very helpful in describing flavours and how our choices differed. We had the vege samosa, lamb madras, daal makhani, and garlic naan. The mains came with rice so no need to order it on the side. All of the dishes were really really good, heat was enough even if one was ordered hot. But if you're not good with heat, let the staff know and they'll adjust it to your preference ☺️ Not a big fan of lamb but I ate a lot of it, because it was cooked very well and the flavours were just awesome. They have an extensive menu which might be a bit confusing if you're not familiar with indian food but they have a short description wih each dish so that helps. Otherwise, ask for help. Overall was a really good experience, really good food (best daal and garlic naan we've ever had), and price is definitely worth it! You guys should open a branch in Auckland 😝 Don't miss them if you're in Whangarei.

We went to whangarei on early October for my kids school holidays. Once we arrived Cameron street for lunch, we saw Indian restaurants, we was so excited cause we loved Indian food so much, and they doing lunch special. So we decided had lunch there. I got 2 kids which they are not a big eater, so we only ordered 2 lunch. When the lunch arrived, we asked for 2 little plates for the kids, but the staff said she can’t give us spare plates because we ordered special lunch, not allowed to share. OMG! That’s the first time in my life asked for space plate and staff said “NO”. I was No word to say to her. Not very good dining experience.

Lunch at Turmeric 28/7/2021

Second time to Turmeric and was not disappointed. Small quiet restaurant in Quality Street we had lunch at a very affordable cost. Staff are very pleasant and professional and so accommodating for a gluten free human and offered an alternative to the naan bread. Very clean restaurant area, and clean restroom. A long way from home

So i arrived about 16:10 so was early and i also chose an outside table which hadn't been set up, so bear that in mind when reading the comments. I'm also on holiday from England so I'm comparing this from a pretty high bar . My waiter I assume waiter as he was dressed in sweatpants and a tatty T shirt. My guess is the front of house A team hadn't clocked in yet. Regardless the guy was very helpful got me a beer and took the order. I chose a bland mango chicken and peshwari nan. The chicken was excellent and there was more than enough. The nan although well stuffed was flat and uninspiring. Nans usually plump up in the oven this one was just a flat pancake. The waiter once the food was delivered went AWOL and i never got a second drink and eventually pinched napkins and everything else from an inside table myself. To be fair this may be what New Zealanders consider as normal but for me the food was just ok but the service was below par.

Hi 262jimn thank you for your feedback, yes you are correct you came early when our restaurant was not open and we were just setting up for dinner rush, and we do not setup outside table due to uncertainty of weather, and we had no staff at that time when you came in restaurant because that was our before hour, as you compairing us with some high quality bar then I really suggest you to please check trading hour of any restaurant before visiting them, sometimes thsi can upset you as not every restaurant is 24x7, but good to hear that you liked our food, hope to see you soon some other time. Thank you

Beautiful Indian food in Whangarei

Beautiful food efficiently served. My prawn Kadai had large chunks of melting onion, tomato and sweet pepper, along with succulent prawns in a delicious sauce made with fresh herbs and whole spices. I loathe sauces where all the vegetables are blended and everything becomes a homogeneous tasting “gravy”.......this was so so much better, thank you!

A long wait for tough and tasteless food

We were shown to a dirty table upstairs, the service was slow, eventually the plates arrived, only 2 for 3 of us!! they were warm on arrival but cold by the time the meals arrived. 2 of us had meat dishes it was tough, very tough. no cutlery we had to take it from another table not enough rice and no one to ask for more. We left our food and to be fair were not charged for the 2 meat dishes. We wont be going back

Great evening out

Lovely and quaint, just big enough to be able to have great food and awesome conversations without the hum of other diners. Food was very tasty and filling AND very good value for money. Staff were discreet but attentive. I would definitely recommend for anyone to dine in at Tumeric.

Just all round the best option

Lunch special us the best value for money in Whangarei lunchtime. Their mild is just the right amount if slightly spicy that it has the taste but is certified safe for wimps like me. Comes out quick and its the perfect price and portion for a walk around town. One day ill be brave enough to branch out but i alwase go for lamb rogan josh.

Changed hands- not the same!

This restaurant used to be my favourite. It has changed hands and the food was obviously of a different standard. Tasteless and chewy naan, mixed platter not the same, flavor is lacking and much smaller portions. Curry was average.

A pleasant surprise in Whangarei

Nice location. Great staff. Wonderful meal and generous portions. We had been looking for a restaurant on a Sunday evening and many were closed or practically empty. We found this restaurant just by following the lovely Indian food aromas.

Disappointing curry we had to wait an hour for

Disappointing curry after an hours wait. We ordered online…told it would be ready in 30mins. We arrived on time and had to wait ANOTHER 30mins until the curry was ready. No apology, no extras to compensate. And the curry was mediocre at best with a soggy naan.
