To those looking for a higher level of dinner cuisine in Whangarei - look no further. Our family dine here throughout the year. The food is exceptional. Chef's meticulous approach to this restaurant is key to its success, cherry picking produce examining each ingredient to ensure plates are served fresh and full of flavor. Must book in advance, as is a well known local Gem.

We would literally seek this restaurant out if we were travelling north again. A creative menu with top, locally sourced meat, fish and produce. I don’t think there were too many kilometres from gate to table and it tasted like it. My entrée of pork belly with crispy crackling was the best I’d ever had. All our party were very happy with their choices and had either the lamb or steak but I had the Orange Roughy fish in a minced paua and lime broth. Attentive staff and a front of the house lady who couldn’t do enough for us. Loved it.

Absolutely outstanding dining experience with locally sourced top quality food, faboulous and friendly service and wonderful suggested wine pairings. This is Whangarei's best kept secret. Come here you won't regret it. Pork belly and prawn starters and fish and beef mains were flawless

I asked this restaurant to help with my plan to propose to my lovely bride to be. They went out of their way to surprise even me, and we have great memories of how the staff joined in. Beautiful meal and setting too.

Absolutely superb in every way, stunning location (even better it is slightly off the beaten track) by the water. Food classic, beautifully done, very generous helpings and cooked to perfection. Friendly, almost family like atmosphere.
So pleased we'd researched as well as having recommendations to visit here.
If you are in Whangarei an absolute must. Perfect for a special occasion.

This was such a cool dining experience and the service was impeccable! The entrees we had were phenomenal and presented beautifully. The mains were also really good, but the deer served wasn’t that nice. Desert was amazing also!
I will be back again :)

Fabulous meal - best place to eat in Whangarei

We have been enjoying Top Sail since it started 15 years ago - and no doubt: the food has been inconsistently delicious!
Tonight the garlic prawns were finger licking good in their buttery herb sauce (entree).
The venison was a delight to look at - a deep red colouring (just seared) with a well complimenting jus plus THOSE blueberries - it tasted amazing - my new favourite!
Finished with Top Snail's special Creme Brulee made the whole meal a true symphony.
A glass of Gewürztraminer went well with it.
Thank you Debbie & Ian (owners) for another magic evening!

Had a yummy dinner at Topsail,entrees of scallops and garlicky prawns with a wedge of foccia to mop up juices
Duck breast with cherries,delish! rack of lamb cooked to perfection, all savoured with a Mahinepua bay chambourcin red Northland wine

A very nice restaurant a bit out of the way but delicious food nonetheless.
Service was great. Not cheap but you do get what you pay for. Excellent food and wine.

This restaurant is without doubt the best in Whangarei with its intimate atmosphere, incredible views, welcoming staff, not to mention immaculately cooked and presented food. The young waitresses were attentive without being intrusive and we thoroughly enjoyed the ambience and atmosphere of the whole evening.

As usual,great menu;whitebait outstanding and both the lamb rack and fish of the day (schnapper) excellent Nice touch with Blackball black pudding with the fish.Great wine list and the availabllity of spirits/aperitifs is great..Service exemplary

Birthday celebrations would not be nearly so wonderful if Topsail disappeared ...but there's a rumour that the wonderfully talented owner chefs will be repurposing their lives.
Food and entire experience at Topsail is amongst Best in World class ... dont delay your next visit ... life is too short and this place is better then 5 Stars
We have enjoyed our delicious meals with them for more then 10 years and look forward to our next opportunity in 3 weeks... Duck,Beef and fish selections all are delicious ~ each bite so tasty Iam sad when I end my meal but hopefully we return and reach culinary amazement...yet again...
