A stylish, renovated pub with nice ambience and pleasant service!
The short haired girl who served me at the bar was nothing but helpful, and a bit of eye candy to boot. I encountered polite, obliging service from all staff, and was surprised that one...of the wait staff even came & asked us how our meals were.
Prices for their main meals were on the high side, but the food was good and the serving sizes decent. I had the fish and chips, and was impressed that the batter even had a nice taste. It was one of the best battered fish I'd had honestly.
Their selection of tap beers wasn't the most inspiring, I would have liked to see more craft/local brews on tap, but it was still acceptable.
Dinner at the Criterion was a nice break and the total opposite of what I'm sick to death of experiencing in Melbourne - hoardes of rude and noisy diners bringing their uncouth customs from goodness knows where, being served by hospitality "professionals" who are anything but professional and don't know the first thing about first-world hygiene and service standards. Thank you to The Criterion for reminding me of how good life in Australia used to be!More
Couldn’t get gravy on my chicken schnitzel, as they only have chicken Parma’s, there were no other people ordering meals, confused, is gravy that hard? $70 for 2 very average chicken schnitzels and 3 small drinks.
The set up and decor was excellent and the service far better than most pubs but sadly the food was not to the standard you expect from a gastro-pub. The menu was minimal and was frankly fairly standard pub fare, a little disappointing as we...expected more.More
We called last minute and Chad squeezed us in for dinner. We were a bit hesitant as we thought it might be a bit fancy for the kids but they were very welcoming and accommodating. Food, service, lighting, wine selection and ambience were amazing. The...salmon dish was one of the best I’ve had. We had one last drink up on the balcony before we left which we very nice. A pleasant surprise after our long day of driving, thank you Chad and the lovely girls who served us.More
We did not book and were very happy to eat in the bar area rather than the bistro. I had a massaman curry and my partner had a chicken parma - both well presented, large and tasty. I also appreciated the range of wines by...the glass including plenty of local offerings.More
We could not fault any part of our lunch. From the friendly service to the perfect meals all round, and excellent selection of wines We went with a local pinot gris, Fantastic. Every detail of our meal was excellent. Definitely worth a stop for lunch..., or make a day out for itMore
It was a busy Saturday night so we ate in the bar area. The lighting was extremely dim, but the food was excellent. I had the steak and it was cooked to perfection. Perhaps a little too much dressing on the salad but delicious.
Wow, what a great place to stay. My family and I had 10 rooms between us for a wedding. Very pleasant staff to deal with, polite & friendly. The rooms were very nice. Newly renovated. Comfy beds, very clean. The meals in the bistro were...delicious. Highly recommend this hotel.More
5 friends went to Sale today especially for lunch. We have eaten there a couple of years ago and were impressed. Today the menu was very sparse and also overpriced. If you don't like burgers there wasn't much else. The staff were pleasant and helpful....We were very disappointed and will not go there again.More
