This eatery is located down on the wharf, and retains the character and feel of sitting out on a wharf watching the boats come and go and looking out to sea. My husband was keen to have a steak for dinner; this place fitted the hill, as we were able to order the 800g steak for 2 for $80, to which we needed to add a few sides (priced at around $9 each). Given that we have different preferences when it comes to steak, and that a rare steak wasn’t possible with this meal option, we went for medium rare and were pleased that there were pieces of steak which worked well for both of us (the rare steak eater, and the medium steak eater). All of it was very tender and moist. The truffle mashed potato and green vege side dishes were also tasty. There was a limited range of wines available by the glass; the option of one local red was appreciated and enjoyed. Afterwards we chose to share the cheese and fruit board with a glass of port. This place is popular - it was all but empty when we arrived early in the evening but quickly filled up with a mix of different ages, couples and families. The staff were efficient and meals came out in good time. There was live music - a guitarist with a repertoire of songs from the 1970s and 1980s which were all familiar to us. On a wet night it was a little stuffy; would love to see what it is like in fine weather.

We had a fun evening at Charlotte’s restaurant. We ordered oysters, monk fish (fish of the day) and lamb rump along with some local wines. We did not have reservations but were seated promptly. The food was very good with a dozen small tasty oysters, monk fish perfectly cooked and medium rare tender lamb. I expected the cut of lamb to be on the tough side but it was not. It was also perfectly cooked with a pink to red center. We sat outside which had the potential to be cool but as the sun went down and it began to get a bit cool the servers dropped the plastic curtains which kept the space comfortable. The whole atmosphere is beach like and quite casual (flip flops and shorts are fine). The location is wonderful being at the end of the pier so every view is of the water.

A friend and I went here for dinner this past week. We hadn't pre booked but the manager was very obliging and rushed off to find us a table. The restaurant was packed with diners so we were very lucky to even get in at all. Our meals were one of the best tasting we had had anywhere. Service was great although there seemed to be only two waitresses working that night. Our steaks were cooked just as we ordered them and there was plenty of food. The creme brulee was one of the best I have tasted - delicious! Overall, we would come back again when next in Paihia. Thanks to our waitress from Quebec - very friendly!

Central location where the tour buses stop. Cost on the higher side at $40 per main, $9.50 for a beer, but food came out in good time and was well presented. We didn’t book, so got an inside table only, server was very attentive, no complaints there. When paying at the bar after the meals, server printed bill to check, per normal, but then gives you the Eftpos machine, preprogrammed for a percentage tip and says “I’ll let you decide on that”, while watching, so you feel obliged to pay extra (which isn’t customary in NZ) so left a bit of a sour taste to the evening, even though the service was good as mentioned above. Not bad but not excellent. Would try elsewhere before going back.

We were recommended this restaurant by a discerning local, we were not disappointed. As we arrived my husband had bad stomach twinges - we were not sure if he would be able to eat anything. When we told the waiter we would wait a few mins before ordering he promptly brought a complimentary (2) glasses of ginger ale and freshly squeezed lime juice. It did the trick and so we were ready to order. Me Celiac and diabetic - nothing was a problem, the chef gladly manipulated the dish for me. The steak and vegetables with salads arrived. Very interesting selection & ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!!! Nothing was a bother, the 2 front of house staff and the chef were all tremendous. Thank you for such a wonderful experience PS And it was good value also.

My fiancē and I on our night out together were very pleased to have been able to easily book a table at short notice. Service was lacking, but I do acknowledge the possibility that the young waitress was a trainee as she seemed a little perplexed to her responsibilities. We ordered pork dumplings, side salads, the only steak meal, a small pizza and drinks, which was a big order for just us too who were very excited as locals to experience Charlotte's Kitchen. The food fell far short of the mark for us unfortunately; The few dumplings of the entree were the highlight of the whole meal, along with the semi fresh leafs of lettuce in the side salads. The steak which was ordered medium, was rare, lacked basic seasoning ie, salt, this was sided with a battered deep fried sprig of spring onion, although creative, added to the confusion on the plate. I do acknowledge that apart of the experience of dining out is to experience new flavours, enjoy the uniqueness of something you could not do in your own kitchen. This may have been one of those nights in the kitchen, but I did find myself saying I can cook this meal....better. We probably will not be returning unless it is recommended specifically in the future. A shame, because the atmosphere within, upon the water in the Bay of Islands, creates such a lovely ambience, along with the lovely service, Im sure would be a sensational dining experience had the food been up to par.

Three of us ordered the fish of the day the market fish. Discrepancy in portions , varying from tiny to super tiny. Disgusting for $39 main aod more like an entree. We just sat there stunned. Never have I been served a tiny meal, fish in my 30 years of being in Northland We eat out in Northland all the time and always order fish. Total rip off. Worst review ever I have given. Come on Paihia you are on The coast so fish should be in abundance, no bottles of water left on the table, had to keep flagging waitress down for water for goodness sake! ! Waitress forgot one customers beer order. Absolutely dreadful. Pleased don't go there. If you want an awesome fish dish of the day, go to Red Pizza Whangarei. Heaps of it and amazing for a la carte

We were in Paihia in the Bay of Islands and had heard about the local oysters, our favorite frutte di mar. Naturally, we asked several locals for a recommendation and Charlotte’s Kitchen on the wharf was a recurring recommendation. My wife and I decided to give it a try and we were NOT disappointed. We ordered a dozen raw and they were served with a choice of three sauces, all brought to the table with our order. After tasting our first oyster, naked (sans sauce), we decided that we could not adulterate these succulent bivalves with anything other than their natural juices. They were decent sized, tender, slightly and appropriately briny with a flavor that seemed to reflect the local habitat. We found out they were farmed right there in the bay where we were located. All were washed down with a delicious glass of chilled, slightly citrusy, local Sauvignon Blanc, the perfect accompaniment. The menu was rich with many Italian choices from seafood to pizza and pasta and lots in between. Service was excellent and relaxed resulting in a deliciously, pleased palate that was very nearly matched by the view.

My partner wanted to take me somewhere special for Valentines Day so we chose Charlotte's Kitchen thinking it would have a lovely romantic atmosphere, what a mistake. We were seated out on the deck and the noise was terrible, like we were in the middle of a bar room. I looked around me and the majority ot the diners looked like they were there for a nice valentines dinner. Three quarters of the room is for diners and the other quarter is for walk ins that just want a drink but there is no division in the room. There was a big rowdy group in having drinks, my partner and I couldn't even talk it was so loud, the waitress apologied and said she was finding it difficult to hear people when she took the orders. This is an expensive restaurant so you really don't expect this type of behaviour in this sort of setting. We were so disappointed we ate our meal quickly and left to have desserts somewhere else. We noticed two other couples left quite quickly as well. The waitress was lovely, and our meal was served very quickly.

Beautiful setting but had higher expectations. Staff ok not overly helpful. My partner ordered the pork knuckle was very dry maybe cooked a bit too long? Bit of a disappointment as it was $70 would have expected the meat to be falling off the bone and tender. Bit over priced for the quality of the food overall.

My wife and I dined here back in February last year on our first of 3 nights in Paihia, having booked this via email before we left Auckland. Lovely location and a great welcome on arrival. The atmosphere inside was good and the food top notch - I was gobsmacked when my Pork Knuckle arrived- it was awesome! All in all it was a lovely experience and we would heartily recommend this venue

We pre booked, yet on arrival had to stand and wait for approximately 3-4 minutes while the receptionist (maitre d?) looked at her computer and then made a phone call. We were standing in the doorway while waiting, and another group of guests arrived and stood behind us. One member of our party is 89 - this was not good enough, we certainly did not feel welcomed. The food was ample, however the flavours felt a little too mixed and a overdone. The waitress was efficient, pleasant, and very obliging.

Great views and good food! It’s a little pricey but the food is good and it’s right on the water so you alway expect to pay a bit more. I had the squid ink pasta which was very good but also very rice with a lot of olive oil in the dressing so I couldn’t finish it all. My husband had the pork knuckle and he was not disappointed, with gravy, lots of meat and heaps of crackling on mash potato he was in his element. He wasn’t to fussed about the sauerkraut but that was ok. Can recommend the spice pineapple cocktail too- yummo!!

We stayed two nights in Paihia, and happened to dine both evenings at Charlotte’s Kitchen, served both times by the same excellent server. Menu is limited, but enough to choose some different dishes. We enjoyed the fish of the day the first night and the lamb rump the second. Others in our party enjoyed a pizza and pork ribs. Wine list is also limited, but good choices are there to be found and enjoyed.

Service was horrible. We were seated ahead of two different tables but menu was given to them, totally forgetting us. Was it a case of racial discrimination? The waitress knew we could speak English but we were brown colored as oppose to the whites in the other tables.
