Best spot, right by the ocean. Such a shame that the food wasn't at the same level as the location. Expensive too.

We met friends here for dinner, while the food was lovely it certainly did not warrant the high prices for such a canteen style dining area, I ordered the "Venison Pot Pie $24.00 Cooked in red wine served with fresh roast seasonal vegies and pea puree", the pie was lovely but to advertise that it is served with seasonal vegetables is a joke, a teaspoon of pea puree with 3 carrot and 3 parsnip sticks the size of a McDonald fry is equivalent to a garnish not a serving of vegetables.. very disappointed :(

We wanted to experience "ordinary" food after dining in all sorts of exotic restaurants. We were surprised to be the only diners in the place. Our lamb rack dish was prefect, as was the jus. It was a very enjoyable main meal. The wine list is one of the most limited I have ever seen, but the pinot noir we ordered was very good and not too expensive. We had an inordinate delay in obtaining our dessert dishes: about 30 mins for a simple cheese platter cannot be explained when we were the only ones dining!. It was a good meal but something went wrong with restaurant communication.

Had a very enjoyable buffet for dinner, good selection of food types and cuisines. Reception was excellent and the table service first class, and the waterview was stunning. Also had a cooked breakfast the following morning, which was awesome. The view was made even better with a cruise ship in sight.

We had breakfast included in our room rate. On entering the restaurant you could see the potential it has lovely large windows overlooking the bay, the tables reminded me of a college canteen. On to the breakfast there was very little orange juice left, a tiny amount of fresh fruit on day one then none after that. The buffet cooked breakfast had seen better days a few baked beans left with a skin on them, the sausages looked like they had been there a very long time. Very little bacon left. For toasting it was the thinnest sliced bread so turned the toast into biscuits. It's interesting that this hotel is part of the millennium chain we have stayed at a few on this tour and found breakfast was poor at best running out of food is not acceptable

Rey disappointed with our meal at this restaurant after specifically wanting to dine here. Menu was so-so, pr awn cocktail was very small and no taste, all lettuce. Asked for the creme brûlée as it was supposed to come with hokey pokey ice cream and after checking that it was hokey pokey I got vanilla.
Would not recommend.

To begin with, I didn't think the menu Offered enough variety. I don't eat red meat but there was no chicken option and the only fish on offer was flounder (which I don't like). I opted for a Polento salad which was very average. Two of the others had venison pot pie which seemed ok, however the seasonal vegetables consisted of 2 thin strips of carrot, a thin strip of parsnip and a Brussel sprout. The fourth member of our group received a large plate with 2small rounds of steak (no wider than10cm across) and a sort of patty that was something with lamb shank. His plate also had the same few strips of vegetables as the others. We each had a drink and the cost was about $45 per person for unsatisfying and disappointing plates of food. Had we not started with garlic bread (not so nice either), we would have gone away hungry.

Nice food. Waitress was friendly. Nice view from the window. Only downside was the stairs, only good for able bodied people as there isn't a lift.

The Carvery is $35 each and provides for a meat of the day. However, there were other meats and fish, as well as a variety of sea food, and the cheese boats including salami to finish. Was busy with bus groups, but staff were efficient and pleasant. Most of the food seemed fresh and well prepared, but we were disappointed with the broccoli. Plenty else to choose from. One extra non-cheesecake style desert would have been good, but again these are details to make a lovely mall even better.

One the down side at breakfast i found the bacon undercooked and if you didn't want scrambled eggs then there were no options but it was tasty and there were plenty of fruits and cereals to chose from.
Now for dinner...AMAZING!!
lemon prawn skewers were a great start and then the pork belly on a asparagus and rosemary risotto. OMG it was so yummy and a huge portion.

Breakfast 6:45am -9:30am. Dinner 6pm - 9pm.
Light breakfast $9; Continental $15; Cooked $23.
You can have Long Black, Latte, Flat White, Mocha, Chocolate from the Nescafe machine. I love the Oat Porridge with the home make sultanas marinated in Liptons fruit of the forest flavoured tea--a must try.

Mea Culpa. My apologies. I was doubly wrong in my previous review of this restaurant regarding their wine list. Of course Trinity Hill is a North Island wine; it’s from Hawkes Bay. I meant to write NorthLand and I was also wrong about that because they list two white wines from estate wineries within 15 minutes drive of the restaurant – Marsden Estate and Ake Ake.
We returned to The Reef for one of their buffet dinners.
The place was packed, understandably so as there was a huge range of food to match all tastes, and more than one human could sample all of.
Meats hot and cold, hot vegetables, a large leaping salmon was being sliced, sushi, 20 different salads, fresh fruits, cakes, desserts, steamed puddings, ice creams.....
I enjoyed a mixed green salad followed by roasted turkey with delicious honey roasted root vegetables, fresh steamed cauliflower and broccoli florets and roast potatoes, followed by fresh raspberries, blueberries and strawberries.
The buffet kept being refreshed and we were very happy with the choice and quality of the food.
