Great burgers and staff

Wonderful. Ate dinner here as the atmosphere looked nice and the reviews seemed mostly good. We ordered three different burgers, all of which were incredibly flavoursome and high quality. Only paid around 20 dollars for each one and received plenty of waffle fries for each. Gin selection and cocktails were great too. Even got to speak to the chef who offered us a tasting of very high quality caviar free of charge. The service was great, as we were looked after the entire evening by friendly staff who were easy to strike up a conversation with. Overall a great experience. The only thing I’d say is some of the music I didn’t like, but that’s a personal thing.

Something different + Guinness On Tap

Need a Guinness in Paihia? You've got 1 option and that's to come here. The pouring was quite good, but definitely not to Irish standards (too small head). We tried the food and it was unusual but we really liked it, the waiter was helpful and explained lots of options. My partner had the tacos and I had the blue cheese and mushrooms!

Great food, atmosphere and service

We had a week in Paihia and found this place on day 3 and just kept going back. We had 1) breakfast here 3 days in a row (Holy Smoke, Kiss Kiss & Dr Avocado - all tasty), 2) cocktails (Dark Fantasy - chocolatey and yummy) one night before going across to Russell for dinner. 3) cocktails (Dark Fantasy, Rex on the Beach & Hemp Gin cocktails) and dinner one night (2 x burgers, 1 x meat balls and 1 x steak). One of our group is coeliac and for every visit the staff were amazing and for the dinner option the owner picked out a perfectly aged steak from the deli and suggested a custom meal option which was very tasty. Next time we are up in Paihia we will definitely be back! Oh, one other thing, in addition to a good range of usual spirits, they have a wide selection of kiwi spirits ... especially gins!

Many Paihia restaurants close early or don’t open at all early weekdays so it was good to find Bad Habits open for business - despite TA saying it was closed. The eclectic decor and wobbly bar stools definitely work. There is a lot of vibrant colour and eccentricity that is ably supported by an enthusiastic and attentive team. Our waitperson was extremely charming and helpful with the menu and management appeared often. We heard several times that the restaurant is new and finding its feet. To this end, front of house is coming along rather well. Less sure about the food. We started with some extremely smooth pate. It arrived already spread, wafer thin on toasted bread. Next came lamb meatballs that were rather fragrant. Meaty fragrant. The four of them sat on a bed of shaved Parmesan cheese that was also liberally sprinkled atop. A little relish and an abundance of garnish completed the plate. Would we return? Out of curiosity, maybe!

Overpriced coffee

We're all for supporting local but not when they charge an eye watering $7 for a large coffee. Can't complain about the coffee itself but $7 is a rip off. We've just come back from Waitomo, Rotorua & Auckland & the most we paid for a large coffee anywhere was $5.50.

Good food and good service

We had a great meal at Bad Habits at the end of a long driving day. The menu was clever, and the food was delicious. While there was no separate kids menu, the team was happy to split an adult meal onto two plates for the kids. Also had counter food (including cakes/desserts), and a good wine list. Bad Habits has a wine/spirits store on site as well, with a very good selection of wines, rums, and craft gins especially. I understand that gin tastings are also available. This is a great spot, and we look forward to visiting again.

Nice interior

We went here hoping to get breakfast, but when we ordered we were informed that breakfast was not available. So we ordered burgers and loaded fries instead. The Barman was OK and were were happier when the chef? came and took our food order. He was more switched on and customer oriented. The food was ok. I would go again, probably for dinner and the bar scene.

Awesome!

Such an amazing array of Gin with tastings available and very well priced. The Deli and butchery were of a very high standard. I chose a steak from the cabinet which arrived cooked to perfection while Husband ordered what he thought would be a light meal, Double Cheeseburger, it was the size of his head but it was so good he had to eat the lot! Amazing cocktails, for me, and Guinness for him. We will be back.

Impressive Place

Went for drinks & dinner with a large group. This venue is almost a one-stop shop. I bought a bottle of my favourite tipple at a VERY reasonable price from their extensive selection of spirits. We had a delicious meal and could’ve bought fresh meat from the butcher inside. Reasonably priced meals and drinks, parking is on the street. Two things I’m not a fan of: the distance to the toilets (upstairs and through a maze of corridors) and the dessert selection. Still going back next visit though.

Cocktail Heaven

Found this spot on the first night of our holiday and went every night for a cocktail for the next week. Live music some evenings, best steaks ever as you go to their butchers counter and choose your own. Staff are what makes this place though - helpful and polite.

Overpriced for what it is. Mediocre food and high prices preying on the tourists. Overly sauced burger was a hot mess with tiny patties. Popcorn chicken was just over cooked dark meat chunks, again overly sauced. Drinks way overpriced.

So great we visited three times!

We came the first time for lunch, the second time for cocktails and the third for dinner. This place is so cool, you could wander around for ages and not run out of things to look at! The food was fab, the cocktails were excellent and they have the most amazing selection of drinks to purchase and take home. The staff were all amazing but a special shout out goes to the guys on the lunch/afternoon shift on 14/3/22 and 15/3/22. Thank you for such excellent service!

Bit disappointed / average

Stopped for quick lunch. Po Boys burger had pate smeared on the base of the bun which was not mentioned in the menu, and I can’t stand pate (and lucky not allergic) - not something I would expect in a burger at all. Also slaw dressing was nothing like what the menu described. Staff were friendly however and acknowledged that they were “playing round with a few ideas” and did apologise. Looks like a good place for a drink.

Ordered the Tomahawk and Rib-Eye Steak as well as two sides (Chicken Wings BBQ and coated prawn bites) and a Jack the Ripper Burger. Food was amazing, staff was lovely and the drinks were awesome. Super happy, will be back for sure!

Best Cocktails

Great Staff, amazing atmosphere and the best burgers and steak so far… waitresses boasted they did the best steak in town and she was right..My husband and I had cocktails, mock tails, burgers and beers… amazing all of it. Mum had steak (sirloin) and it was delicious… perfectly seasoned, tender and juicy.. our burgers were amazing and we make pretty awesome burgers ourselves Top Notch we definitely recommend
