Beautifully presented meals. Smoked eel is something I wouldn't usually order, but I did and it was delicious. The portion looked small at first, on the large plate. But was just the right size to enjoy the flavors and textures.
The braised beef main was the highlight. Tender and flavorful served with a jus. It was low carbs too.
At the start they brought us a free pork belly won-ton each, with a hot dipping sauce, and sweet morsel at the end. Nice touch.
The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable - and good COVID spacing!
Pricing was what you would expect for a quality meal. The two of us spent $200 on 3 courses each and 5 drinks between us.
Finally, the service was first rate. Attentive and pleasant without being constantly in your face.
We live in Paihia and people always ask us what is the best restaurant in town. Terra is up there. It is definitely giving my number 1 a run for it's money.

Arrived from Auckland tired and hungry around 7pm and needed a good night out after the 6 hour slog (yes 6 hours) on the road! Everywhere looked busy and booked when we noticed a new Restuarant called Terra which is upstairs on the main strip. There where a few empty seats and the staff were very welcoming and led us to a great sea view spot (under a heater which was greatly appreciated as it had turned a bit chilly). Drinks duly arrived food ordered and a complimentary starter arrived - very nice gesture! The food was delicious I had fish of the day and the boss had a Goats Cheese Souffle which she is still raving on about 2 weeks later! Deserts didn't dissaapoint either.
Great spot. Great service and excellent food. Give it a go before you will require bookings well in advance!

My daughter and I went here on New Year's Eve. We were promptly seated and the staff were extremely friendly and attentive. The food was outstanding. I had the lamb and my daughter had the fish of the day. We enjoyed complimentary bean fritters of some kind and then our main dishes came quickly. We also ordered the grilled corgette and the side dish of potatoes. The main dish possibly needs a side dish in order to fill you up if you are quite hungry after an active day but the side dishes were reasonably priced and enough for two people to share. Decor is soft and the views out to the water are very nice at most tables. Highly recommend!!

This top-rated place left us scratching our heads. More accurately, we left with a strong taste in our mouths. Each dish was creative, but as we experienced it, the matching of ingredients (while unique) was a culinary failure. We each had the salmon to start, followed by the 'scallops' and 'kingfish', and then 'duck' and the 'fish of the day' respectively. The establishment appeared to be going for an Indian fusion menu, however, the dishes were over flavoured with the main proteins overpowered by contrasting accompaniments. For a restaurant in this price bracket, the service consistently fell short. For example, while taking our orders the waitress announced she had to depart to deliver meals to other tables. Returned approximately 10 minutes later and resumed with us. Finishing our mains we were told ''the kitchen would soon be closing''. We had arrived a few minutes before our reservation so to feel rushed out the door was unexpected. And by this point we were hanging out for a sweet pallet cleanser!

Advisable to book a table. The staff excellent and attentive, the food was wonderful, so thank you to the chef. As one of us is a coeliac it was important to have a gluten free meal. The chef was most accommodating and was able to prepare food that was gluten free. This is a new restaurant on the first floor the entrance is tucked away. We had a table on the balcony with a view of the sea.

First it was late summer so you need to Book! We dined on a Tuesday evening . The service was very prompt and the menu was really explained very well to us.Menu is not over extensive but certainly covers ones needs and wants.The meals were beautifully presented , well garnished and cooked to perfection.We appreciated the little extra's at no cost, like the little starter and the little edible gift at the end of our meal. They use white linen serviette's a rarity these days.This would have to be the Best Restaurant we dined at during our week in Paihia.

Wow factor for overall dining experience. Yes it’s pricey but you get what you pay for and then some - well worth it especially if you live in Northland and have a love of amazing food and appreciate great service. Staff were fantastic - tentative but non invasive; informative with great senses of humour...location is birds eye view of Paihia waterfront: great views of the area, a lovely breeze and interesting people watching. Food is as 5 star tantalising, if not better, than it looks. Can’t wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. Thanks guys!

Visited Terra as a group of 4 adults. Received a very warm welcome and the staff were incredibly helpful and went of their way to advise us on food options and also other attractions across New Zealand. They showed a genuine interest in their customers which is very refreshing. As for the food, all was exquisite particularly the snapper. Felt like this was a proper community and if we were staying longer in Paihia would definitely return. Complementary extras was a lovely touch. Thank you all for a lovely evening!

We came for dinner with friends last night and I'm just blown away by everything! From the set up, to the service and the food!!!
We have been living in Paihia for a long time now and have seen this place change hands several times. It is so good to see what you guys have done with it! It looks incredible. Comfortable, contemporary and vibrant.
We only booked a day in advance, but still managed to get an inside table. Having worked in hospo for roughly 7 years I'm always a bit weary sitting close to the kitchen, since I will twitch everytime I hear the bell or someone raising their voice. But there was none of it. The chefs and the servers were working incredibly well as a team. The kitchen team never shouted commands at each other. I was able to watch them work through the open kitchen set up and it was marvelous.
The quality of the food is outstanding. I love seeing so many local products being used. Our dinner turned into a six course degustation and I loved every bite of it.
Well done guys all around!
I would recommend this place for any special occasion, it will certainly be memorable.
I'm also looking forward to just stopping by for some cheeky afternoon drinks on the balcony with that stunning view over the bay.
See you guys soon

A friend and I dined here this past week while visiting Paihia.
This is fine dining at its best !! The service was very efficient and friendly. The food was a taste sensation one must experience if visiting this town. Top class !! Beautifully presented and our waitress explained every dish with confidence. These are top class chefs working here !!
We were the last ones to leave and were both given an extra little minty delicacy to finish off our meal.
It does pay to book ahead as the restaurant is small. Several diners just walking in were turned away as they were full.
I can't rate this restaurant highly enough !

5 Stars all the way! The service was beyond exceptional, wine was delightful and the food Devine, beautifully presented, fascinating flavours and little surprises to taste before and after the main meal. The restaurant is on the second level with a flight of stairs but there is an elevator for those that need it. The views are nothing to sneeze at either! By far the best restaurant we have had the pleasure to eat at in a very long time. Highly recommended but be sure and make reservations.

Waitangi Day, February 6th, is our anniversary & we shared it with visiting friends from the U.K., Terra was our chosen destination & boy oh boy we were not disappointed, friendly greeting on arrival, great table with super views over the ‘Bay’ & Paihia, exceptional service from well trained & qualified staff, adequate choice on the menu & sufficient selection on the wine list, nothing more is needed.
Quality and quantity on the plate’s surpassed all of our expectations with all the elements well matched along with the advice on the accompanying side dishes also added to the dining experience.
We are constantly seeking a ‘dining experience’ to match quality food & Terra certainly did not fail to produce an overall great evening, thoroughly recommended if you enjoy seriously well presented & quality food, Paihia needs this type of restaurant to cater for our growing tourism numbers & we hope it remains here long into the future.

Enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Terra - what delicious food and so well presented. From entree to dessert everything was just perfect,
The entree was tasty and just the right size so we could enjoy our mains (and dessert). The fish of the day and duck was divine and the dessert was lovely.
Not only would I go back the net time I am in Paihia but can highly recommend; I'd advise to make a reservation.

I have eaten in many places in my almost 50 years but this wee unassuming place had simply the best food I have eaten ever. If you book
you can sit out on the veranda with a stunning view over the bay. The food looked like a work of art and tasted even better. The staff were fabulous and extremely professional and I was amazed at how the kitchen and front of house staff worked like a well oiled machine. I cannot recomend this place highly enough.

Stunning view overlooking the Paihia wharf. A perfect way to spend an evening watching the boats come and go. The food was delicious, very expertly prepared and our Waiter was accomplished and friendly. They even managed to produce a special birthday treat for my companion free of charge.
