Ok but service has deteriorated this summer

Have eaten here on many occasions over the last 5 years and always had an excellent meal with great service until this visit. Meals and entree came out at same time yet when we said we wanted our meals later we were advised they would be kept hot for us.... Felt we had to hurry up and eat entrees as the waitress was watching us eat. eventually my main came out while I was still finishing entree. No apology, no nothing. As we were staying here for 10 days the plan was to eat there more than once but after that service we decided they didn't deserve our money, the CBK restaurant on the wharf does dam good meals so ate there and Alfrescos restaurant instead

Delicious Ribs

In the main town street a Paihia Jimmy Jacks Ribs are sensational!!! If you feel extra hungry add the huge serve of chicken wings. We order a dozen and after eating for 15 minutes there was still 10 on the plate. Clearly the kitchen staff can’t count. But we’re not complaining. Any uneaten food can be put into a takeout container 🤗 Service was good, and there is a wide variety of drinks including cocktails. Definitely a spot to eat when in Paihia.

Amazing Platters

Was busy the night we arrived but didn't have to wait long for a table. We had tried booking earlier in the day but were told they didn't take bookings. When we arrived that night, a couple of tables had been reserved so not quite sure what the deal was but didn't matter as we got a table anyway. We were going to share some Cauli Bites for a starter but thankfully they had run out - when the platter arrived that the four of us were to share our eyes just about popped out of our heads! Even the people at the next table were amazed at the amount of food. There were wedges, fries and curly fries as well and really we could have done with just two of those and more of the chicken or fish. But we all enjoyed the platter and tried our darndest to finish it - but it had us beat! Staff were friendly - not overly attentive but they were really busy and we weren't that needy.

Wow, the standard has really dropped here!

Have been here several times and have been suitably impressed. However this summer the standard has really fallen. In 25 degree heat there was no air conditioning, diners were visibly sweating as were staff. It was akin to dining in the pacific islands heat, just awful, with very few cheap desk fans mounted to the walls. Further to this, normally chicken or ribs dishes are quite good, but this time we tried pasta and salmon and were very disappointed. The pasta was worse than I could make at home, and I couldn’t even eat the salmon, it was so incredibly over done. Hopefully the standard has fallen due to the peak season and will improve again, but I doubt I’ll be coming back. When we mentioned the salmon they gave us $15 off it (half) which was a nice touch but the meal wasn’t touched so I would recommend avoiding salmon at this establishment.

Overrated Shack

Ordered Ribs Tester, Rib Combo and Smoked Pesto Chicken Fetuccine. Ribs were cooked ok but served with basic sauce that was blend and there was no possibility for another sauce. Overall it was eatable but with no pleasure. The chicken was obviously reheated and dipped in pesto sauce. It was dry, I could not taste any smoked flavor and it was unpleasant to eat. The sauce was too creamy, too much of it and I could not eat more than half the dish. Overall, the dishes are overpriced, this place is more of a fast food type, a money making factory with, unfortunately, not much knowledge in the kitchen. Despite the advertising don't expect any great food from there!

Disappointing

Came here for a celebratory dinner with the family and it was disappointment after disappointment. The table seated after us were served drinks before we got any service and this was due to me flagging someone down. My sister and I ordered the 'smothered' steak. There wasn't enough sauce at all, hardly what I would call smothered. We both ordered medium rare, my sisters was definitely rare almost bordering blue. Both of our plates had more blood than sauce which also watered down the sauce. It was listed as scotch steak but my sisters was half fat. The menu also listed them as coming with creamy mash potato and steamed veges which was the selling point for both of us only to be told that the mash is only in winter. Its mid summer so you'd expect that they would have an updated menu by now? My mum tried to order the sizzling salmon to be told they were out. She then chose the fettuccine only for the waiter to come back from the kitchen to advise they were out of pasta?! She then opted for the fish and chips and asked to swap the coleslaw for steamed veges that were listed on the sides. We were then told she would have to pay to swap them, it would have been nice if they were more accommodating at this point. She asked to have no coleslaw and just the fish and chips and when her meal was brought out, it came with coleslaw! No one came to check on us whilst we ate apart from asking us if we were done with our water jug?? My dad enjoyed his ribs though so that's something. The staff were friendly but did not make up for all of the above.

More drama than it’s worth

Terrible service - the waitresses took food away but left the chicken bones on the table. The cocktails tasted like straight juice and were garnished with a mint lolly for the mojito with no fresh mint or lime in the drink (not sure how it’s even classified a mojito). The ribs were cooked but just had a slab of your plan supermarket shelf bbq sauce lathered on top. All in all very disappointing and a waste of money. Would not waste your valuable time or money on people who don’t care about the customers or food.

This is the first time I’ve written a negative review, so I’m not some male Karen but I was pretty disappointed going here. Price was reasonable but the ribs came out room temperature, nothing great about their “special sauce” either, just bbq. I asked for aioli for the chips, they said it was an extra dollar (that’s fine some places that make their own aioli do this). They brought out mayonnaise (like really cheap packet tasting mayonnaise), I told the girl she said “the order slip said aioli” and I told her it wasn’t. She returned with another tub of mayonnaise, no salt on the room temperature chips and had to line up to get salt for the table as I couldn’t get the waitresses attention. Girlfriend didn’t get the cheese she ordered on her burger. They tried to charge us extra for these things and gave a little attitude when we asked to remove from the bill, no apology as would expect but that’s fine. Was below average.. I normally couldn’t be bothered complaining if something is bad quality but this just annoyed me..

Tasty food with efficient service

There was a queue outside when we arrived but we were given a menu to look at while waiting and were kept informed and reassured about how long we would have to wait. We were given a table inside where there was a busy but good vibe. Service was very good and ribs were nicely cooked and tasty. Fairly large portions at a reasonable price. Would definitely suggest a visit when in Paihia.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff. I ordered steak meal which was cooked exactly as I asked for, my wife ordered wedges as they were out if ingredients for the other two meals she wanted. The wedges were not good value for money at $18, it was small amount and soggy as if they had just been reheated in the microwave.

The worst service and cold meals in NZ

As a family visiting Paihia , we came across this place which appeared to be busy, we enquired at the front door and taken to a holding table where it all went bad. When we finally got a table they brought us a bottle of tap warm water with three glasses one with bits in the bottom so I got another. We ordered two Tiger beers and a soft drink for our son. the beers came out flat either hot glasses or dirty beer lines. My sons drink never came. We then ordered our mains, 1 x Scotch fillet for my wife ribs and curly fries for our son and a Surf and turf medium rare for myself. 40 minutes later our meals arrived minus my sons curly fries, II strarted on my prawns and then cut of a bit of my steak which was colder than the beer . The mushroom sauce had been poured on top was cold so I guess my meduim rare steak had sat on the bench for 20+ minutes awaiting my wifes well done steak. when I asked to replace they took it back to kitchen and microwaved it making it taste like a rubber boot. I went and paid for the meal and asked how it was I had paid and was not looking for refund but told waitress of issues, the manager came over and said look around at all our guest and said no onone else complained. anyway thought i would warn people before choosing this place.

Was so much better 5 years ago

Took our family to Jimmy Jacks for dinner recently. I had been 5 years earlier with a work colleague and was blown away at how good it was... So was somewhat disappointed when the delivery just wasn't the same. The meals whilst did taste mostly good were poorly presented which was a shame as the presentation i remember was on point. Hubby wasn't keen on red meat that night so ordered fish & chips and was hugely disappointed, my ribs were good and so were the kids meals. Have given an average score simply because the standard has dropped and my 5 star recommendation I gave to my husband wasn't what I recalled... Hopefully feedback is taken into account, i'll definitely dine again someday but I can't say the same for hubby..

Four of us ate here during our stay in Paihia - three had ribs which they said were amazing. Not being a fan of ribs, I opted for a salmon dish which was served with stir fried vegetables but this was off the menu. According to the waiter, they had been unable to grow vegetables in the area due to the lack of rain. However, salad was available and I had a salmon salad which was very good. Good vibe here, good service and reasonably priced.

This casual restaurant which serves a great variety of snacks, small meals, large meals and dessert, was great. The venue is casual, and the atmosphere, while different, is interesting and great. Great staff, food and service. We visited twice, and we would certainly go there again when next we visit Paihia. Thank you, Les and Pam.

Burgers!

Stopped in for a late lunch, the place was moderately busy. Our server was really friendly and told us about Happy Hour! We ordered a burger each, they came out really quick after ordering and tasted amazing. I would definitely go back, I’d try the ribs next time as after we went here for lunch it was actually recommended to us again later on by a couple of the tour guides and our air bnb host.
