Cooked our own caught fish, beautifully.

Vinnie Cooked our own caught fish, beautifully. Caught some snapper fishing from Paihia and got Vinnie to cook it for us. We also had a couple of ginger beers and a (huge) portion of chips. He charged a very inexpensive 3 nzd to cook the snapper, and it was absolutely perfectly cooked. We loved it. Chips were awesome too. 👍👍 We will return after the next fishing trip Vinnie.. 😊

The BEST!

Amazed at the quality and quantity of Vinnies’ fish and chips. He recommended the whiting and added two pieces of dory for my wife and I to sample. This was the best fish and chips that we had in New Zealand and Australia. The prices were also unbelievable at $11 plus $7 for the dory.

Great chips, friendly service

I still think that Vinnies chips are amongst the best anywhere! This must have been the third time we have bought them here over the last few years . The special of two fish, chips and 2 sausage was too good a bargain to pass up and came with two generous wedges of lemon. The fish was hoki - probably not my favourite fish, but I couldn't fault it as it was beautifully cooked. The sausages however, although a good size, are the rather bland offerings, sold over the whole of NZ, possibly precooked, requiring a generous coating of tomato sauce or HP sauce. But at the price for the special, we treated them as a giveaway.

$33... really slow, forgot things & overcooked chips Up in Paihia for the long weekend so thought classic kiwi f&c at the beach with a 5 and 3 year old. Despite 4.45pm order super slow, appears not overly clean, dory $8 per piece seems to be the freshest fish as ‘fish’ and ‘hoki’ being a deep sea variety. Disappointing being a seaside town that the fish wasn’t more local. They forgot the hotdog and chips were overcooked.

Phoned in an order, had run out of snapper due to busy weekend (Labour Weekend). Ordered 1 x hoki, 1 x dory, 2 oysters, 1 battered sausage, 1 1/2 scoop chips $40.50 They threw in some slices of lemon which was nice not having to buy one or go without. Fish and chips and how they are cooked, are matters of preference in cooking, ours were nicely cooked. Not 100% sure if hoki was fresh or out of freezer (forgot to ask if the fish was fresh) All in all a nice dinner for hungry, tired people, perhaps a bit on expensive side compared to home.

Possibly the worst Fish & Chips in the world. To an Englishman an insult. “Frozen” badly cooked chips & SO SLOW!

I asked at the tourist information center for a dedicated Fish & Chip Shop that did “proper” fresh cut chips. They directed me here! I made my order, then saw all that were being served had “frozen” bagged type chips. Total insult to ANYBODY that likes Fish & Chips. Then it took “EONS” to get my very basic order. In the end I went back to the counter & said, can I have my drink I ordered out of the fridge please, I cannot wait any longer. Even other customers said, “Are they out catching the fish for you?” When the lady from the counter finally turned up with this very basic order, I opened it & took a quick look. Poorly cooked “frozen” type chips & very over heavily battered, what looked to be undercooked fish. Very disappointing all round. I said to the lady, “Keep the order & give it to someone else.” There was no way I was going to eat that garbage. I lost the money I paid other than for the Bunderburg Lemon & Lime, that they could not really get wrong. Complete waste of money & I have lost my faith in decent Fish & Chips in New Zealand altogether. “Frozen Chips!!!!” They should be ashamed of themselves in a dedicated Fish & Chip Shop. My advice…..Go to the Supermarket, buy a Fish & Chips TV Dinner style meal & heat it up in the microwave……It will be awful, but a MILLION times better than this place! If there is no where else available to eat than this place, get a packet of crisps from the Supermarket to keep you going until you can get something at least “reasonable” to eat. Totally avoid this place! They should apologize to their customers in advance before they serve them!

Cook your catch

Having caught plenty of snapper on our morning fishing charter we didn’t know what to do with the fish fillets. Ocean 68 will cook your catch for you for a minimal charge of $3.00 per head. BEA utiful. Ocean to table inside 3 hours. Our fish, their drinks chips and salad for $18 was perfect. Left the remaining fillets there as a token of appreciation.

Awesome, friendly service and great food. Took some fresh snapper fillets to the guys after a fishing trip in the Bay of Islands and they cooked them up for us on the spot. Tasted fantastic. Highly recommend!

good food - poor value

We were a party of 4 and based upon on-line reviews, went looking for this fish and chips shop for lunch when we got into town. It is very much a take-out storefront operation but they did have 4 tables - we got one. The snapper was excellent – lightly battered. Fries were ok. We ordered scallops, and got A scallop. It was good, but $5 for 1 scallop.?. As much as we enjoyed our food orders and the people were great, the value proposition was very poor. Unfortunate.

This place cooks the fish you catch ! They charge $3/100 grams. Located on the main road and easy to find. Very friendly owner. Lovely chips and only a short wait. Our meal was served with sliced lime.

We arrived in Paihia at the start of the recent cyclone. Luckily the area didn’t get too much damage, but the power was often out or restricted and most shops were shut. Oceans kept operating with generators, good humour and great food. They also do mean coffee with nice views

The best fish and chips I have ever had.

It beaks my heart to say this, but the fish and chips I had here were better than anything that I've had in Australia. The food is amazing! The staff are friendly and engaging. The turnaround times are impressive. You can't ask for more than that...

Yummy fish & chips.. The small chips was plenty for 2 people & the 2. Pieces of fish was heaps we could have shared 1 piece between us as they gave us an little extra piece of fish, fast & friendly service.

Owner/operator very friendly and informative. Went because a tripadvisor review was good, mentioned extra piece of fish; we got two!! Pricey but quality and quantity make this a good f&c outlet
