We visit Paihia at least 3-4 times a year and when ever visit we always go to Rayz on the Bay. It's always humming with people, music and good food. Staff are all very friendly and welcoming. One in particular always recognizes us and treats us as locals.

I came here a couple of years ago and had a fantastic time, they had a couple playing live music and I was so thrilled to see they were still playing music here, they're pretty amazing actually... Wish we had this in my home town.. I only intended to stay for 1 drink, but stayed for a few, and ended up ordering the burger and fries which were delicious.. The views are amazing over the bay.. And friendly service.... Will recommend to others

Me and my husband stayed a night up in Paihia recently.We walked around looking for a place that we'll was open and looked like they had a good vibe.We were hungry so stopped at Rayz on the Bayz as it's located central and you have a view of the ocean from the main road where it's situated.I was dying for a burger but sadly they didn't do them at the time we wanted which was a bummer.So we ordered there seafood platter which was probably the only thing that we could see on the menu that we would love.Im glad we did cause it was delicious fresh fresh fish crispy crumbed batter prawns and squid and mussels were delicious.Very fresh well done and enough for myself and partner to share together with our chips.We had a Heineken which was nice and cold.Overall a good atmosphere there lady very polite.Would go there again.Was abit pricey for the platter but I guess all seafood platters small or large are pricey.

We arrived at 2min past opening time where there was a huge chain blocking the entrance. We could see someone inside and waved and shouted 'Hello' without effect. Thinking that he had not seen us I ducked under the chain to alert him to our presence at which time he exited the building and growled aggressively at me: "Hey hey hey! get outside until I open!' in the most rude fashion. He stomped past me without even looking at me, opened the chain and then stomped past me, again without looking at me. I asked him if this was the best way to treat customers and he did not bother looking back at me as he stomped into the building.
This was a stocky person of Polynesian descent and (a) if he is an employee he should be fired and (b) if he is the owner I hope he goes broke. We are local business people who had visited often in the past but until the sign 'Under New Management' goes up - will not visit again and will pass this opinion to all our local friends.

Do not go here on Mondays if you are wanting food. They stop serving at 6pm and not one minute over. They turn away a lot of custom and need more staff. Good watering hole on the front.

We called in here after hearing the great sounds coming from one of the local singers. The service was excellent and so was the beer and wine. Great place to just chill out and have a feed and a couple of drinks while listing to great sounds.

We're talking the likes of DB (or was it Lion) and Waikato Draught on tap, surfaces that feel a bit sticky, and a couple of pool tables.
But they do have the outdoor / semi outdoor area which is kinda nice to sit at for the breeze and the view. Rugby on the TV, and a passable cover band later. Decent sized pints too and it wasn't too bad trying out the old Waikato Draught for old times sake.
Usually drop in there when staying in Paihia and probably will again in future!

We were staying next door and went to Rayz for awesome fish and chips. They also had the rugby on so my husband was very happy.

We enjoyed lunch and a drink here, the menu simple but adequate, also available home made pies. The location overlooking the bay was great, the food very good and the service quick and friendly

Owners are rude and unwelcoming don't even bother visiting, as a local I was disgusted with the how we were treated, never going back there.

The so-called owner is a disgusting human that needs to be held accountable for his actions. My family & I visited this place after coming back from a beautiful dinner experience in Russell. I couldn't believe that just seconds after arriving at the bar, the owner verbally abused one of our youngest female family members for not ordering a drink. Are you kidding me? Not just once either. He used disgusting fowl, and derogative language and was very intimidating, to say the least.
Unfortunately, the so-called owner caused a serious incident that resulted in us having to call the police. What sort of business is this? Where was the duty of care for patrons? This establishment has no clue about hospitality and more importantly the duty of care for others.
Just so you know Mr bar owner, the principle of duty of care is the legal responsibility of a person or organisation to avoid any behaviours or omissions that could reasonably be foreseen to cause harm to others. This means that you must anticipate risks for your clients and take care to prevent them from coming into harm. Not be the cause of harm. Totally disgusted. You failed big time.....No duty of care at Rayz on the Bay.

Visited this bar with family whom had travelled from Hamilton/Auckland for a family celebration
The owner of the bar was a disgusting man who verbally abused women in front of the crowd, kicked some of our family out because they hadn’t purchased a drink from his bar while watching the All Blacks game little did he know they were the sober drivers for our group
Although a Maori man talking to another Maori whanau he was racist and foul mouthed
This bar should not be allowed to operate or have a license to serve, go back and learn the hospitality industry and put people and the safety of other patrons first instead of moaning you paid $600 to screen the game in your bar
We will be laying a complaint to the Northland district council, have laid a complaint with police already and will also seek information on shutting this place down and speak to the local politician in the area. You do not deserve serving another patron ever again
