Really great dining experience. They sat us in a cosy corner as we requested upon booking, and our waitress appreciated that we mentioned we had to leave by a certain time to catch a show at RAC arena. As a result, the food came in a really timely manner and we made our show without having to rush. Sometimes high end fine dining restaurants serve a really pretentious portion that doesn't reflect the price point and you leave still hungry or really broke.. this is not such an establishment. The portions were good, cooked perfectly, and tasted amazing.

We ate at the Rusty Fig on Wed 15th Jan. With it being right after Christmas & early in the week, the CBD in general was pretty quiet. However, that did not stop us from receiving the warmest of welcomes from our lovely hostess for the evening (Evie). Although quiet on the night, the Rusty Fig is a beautiful restaurant & we could totally imagine the buzzing vibes that it would hold on a busy weekend evening. Luckily, my husband & myself know how to have a good laugh without a crowd & Evie was also lots of fun & great to chat to whilst always ensuring we were well looked after & catered for at the same time. Before we had even ordered, we were presented with the most delicious canapés & amuses bouches (cheesy Gnocchi & vine tomatoes, as well as the most delicious mushroom velouté). The moment we had finished these we knew we were in for a taste sensation! It was abundantly clear the chef knew how to cook & had a real passion for good food cooked well. To start we had, the pan seared scallops & chicken liver parfait. Both of which were a piece of art on a plate & absolutely delicious. Scallops had great caramelisation & flavour, & the accompanying pea purée (textures) complimented the scallops beautifully. The parfait was a generous serve of rich silky delight, and the orange gel that came with it cut through the richness perfectly & lovely to have a decent amount of brioche too (so many places give you the smallest amounts!). For main course we both opted for the fillet steak, having been on holiday for a month this was the best steak we’ve had all trip! A high-quality piece of meat lovingly cooked to perfection with the most delicious jus & perfect accompaniments. Not forgetting the dauphinois potatoes we had. Bursting with garlic flavour & a cheeky cheesy topping! Absolutely bloody delicious! After so much stunning food, we were bursting at the seams, but there was no way we were passing off dessert in such a great restaurant, so we opted to share their highly recommended sticky date soufflé & caramel sauce. Wow! What a way to end the meal! Deliciously light airy & full of rich molasses flavours, everything a soufflé should be & more! Lovely little touch at the end of the night, was the hand piped anniversary wishes & choccie treat for our 10th wedding anniversary. From start to finish this is the standout meal of our entire holiday. 10/10 on the food & wonderful hosting by Evie. It was also lovely to meet chef Graham at the end of the night to thank him for his delicious creations. Graham has worked all over the world, including London & it’s great to see he has brought his culinary expertise back to Perth to showcase them using quality ingredients in a wonderful setting. Sorry for such a long review here (I hope you’re still reading), but it really is worth every word and we’d 100% recommend a visit to the Rusty Fig! You won’t regret it!

We recently went for dinner at Rusty Fig and had high hopes for an amazing meal but while the experience was good it wasn't exceptional and we left a bit disappointed . It was easily the most expensive meal per head we have had in Perth but just didn't quite hit the right notes for us. We had the six course degustation menu and wine. The courses were quite large and although one course was introduced by the waitstaff, all five other courses were just delivered with no explanation of what we had been served. It may just be me, but when people talk about fine dining food, I picture small portions of beautifully presented food but this wasn't that. To be clear, the food tasted great but wasn't what I have experienced when we visited other fine dining restaurants around the world. Wine list was extensive and after an initial selection was unavailable we were surprised that the waitperson didn't suggest an alternative but we picked something else and it was great. The restaurant was very quiet with only three or four tables being used but I read somewhere that they deliberately do this but it does create a real lack of atmosphere in the restaurant. I did struggle a bit with the decor which looks very 1970's and yet the menu was modern. It had the feel of a private club rather than a restaurant. All in all, Rusty Fig was good but not somewhere we were likely to go back to again. Even by Perth's standards its possibly over-priced. 6 Course degustation was $185 plus wine matching at either $80 or $150 each, so around $500 - $600 for a couple.

We booked a degustation and we’re looking forward to trying new tastes . In reality , the restaurant was 95% empty which is never a great sign . The appetiser was kingfish with cold green beans and broccoli , An amuse Bouche was next , but it was actually a very large plate of oily mushroom salad , soggy and greasy . I ordered ( yes it was a set 3 courses after that ) Scallops and paid an extra $10 on top for that . Bland watery with pea puree. The steak was tepid, cooked perfectly though . Served with sliced cool boiled skins on potatoes that were described as fondant potato !!! Again with the pea puree, and a very tiny piece of cold onion . Dessert was a pleasant soufflé that was a further $15 onto of the $105 we paid for this experience . Nothing special , although the server sliced it in 2 , poured coulis in it and blobbed ice cream in too .. Not a great selection of wines ( had to ask for menu which was covered in food !!) Would not recommend food here , I definitely not a degustation experience !!!

We came for a birthday celebration, selecting the $198 a head degustation menu for the 20 people at the table. We were booked in for 8pm and we’re all seated by 8:30pm. Our first course ( a variety of tomatoes sliced on a plate) arrived at 10pm. Our last course arrived at 11:45pm. We were told at the start that the guest of honour would be served first not one time were they served first. The food was ok nothing to write home about. Not once was the food introduced. This was definitely not worth the price tag. Staff while sweet were inexperienced and too few of them. We had to constantly go down stairs to get a drink. Not only did our last course arrive at 11:45 we were told at 11:55 we had to leave because the licence finished at 12!! Atrocious I would not recommend at all.

We had lunch here today. Our first impression was not great from the bar staff who were not very friendly. However, a very nice waitress showed us to our table and quickly organised some drinks for us. Disappointingly we were sat very close to some large and noisy tables (there was another much nicer part of the restaurant which was completely unoccupied). We perused the menu, we asked some questions, unfortunately our waitress was not very familiar with the menu. The wine we ordered was not available. The starters were stunning and we both enjoyed them. Sadly when our main course’s finally arrived, mine was horribly overcooked. My husband had his food and my steak finally arrived as he had finished eating. The response from the staff was to give us a complimentary dessert. It was a nice gesture but sadly it did not compensate for what had happened. I did expect a bit more from this venue.

Dined here on a Saturday night where the only option was a $100 5-course meal. First available booking was 8.30 but on the day was able to change it to 5.30 only to spend the next two hours looking at no less than 6 empty tables. Service was impeccable but food sadly substandard. First course of prawn and ocean trout tartare was universally acclaimed as the dish of the night being a refreshing seafood delight. The soup was pedestrian; the chicken very dry, and the chocolate dessert very, very rich. It feels as though Friends has been caught in a time warp and sadly left behind in the wake of the renaissance of extraordinarily talented chefs currently servicing the city.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I need to point out that we spread the table bookings out over the length of the service time as we are unable to serve all tables at the same time, whether that be in terms of front of house service or in the kitchen. There is an acute shortage of staff in Perth at the moment. Disappointed that you disliked our restaurant as we endeavour to please everybody and that is our primary goal.

Waitress are friendly but it seems they tried to upsell you all the time with menu's (only offered set menu and not ala carte while we all knew that they have ala carte) Food are nice but can't say its superb. Its a rather small portion with very little side (salads or potato) The area where we all sit was very dim lighting, lucky one of my friend brought LED torch as even our phone torch light is not enough bright to read the menu. Pasta was nice, but fish, chicken & steak are over priced for the amount they gave us. Wont be coming back. Gave 3 star cos waitress are friendly & the taste of the food is nice.

I booked this dinner couple days ago, because though that according to restaurant name their menu based on figs, which I like. I was mistaken. The name is coming from the old fig tree which grows near restaurant. However when I booked, I talked to Graham ( owner of the place) . During this booking conversation we discussed the name of his restaurant and food preferences He remembered it and prepared for me a surprise: he asked his staff when I come to make special for me desert with figs, out of restaurant menu..Very kind. Thank you very much, Graham. Now about this dinner. Restaurant has rustic modern interior chic design, where all materials are used : rustic wood with metal , rustic mirrors with open glass. Staff showed high level of professional service from beginning to finish. Dinner started with pre-entree small dishes such, corn, macadamia, pumpkin consommé. As drink I had Guinness draught stout. Then I’ve got ordered chicken liver parfait, which was beautifully presented and extremely delicious. ( I would put a little bit salt in it). It came accompanied with jam. (Here I would use figs jam). For main I chose veal steak.. meat was well prepared and presented. It was gentle , melted in mouth and delicious. Desert figs cooked, I guess in red wine with ice cream look fantastic and was so delicious… it was great dining experience.

A really nice meal. Very expensive but we chose the matching wines which hikes the price up. All the wait staff are asian except for the owner and his wife - and the owner kind of hangs around and tells a few stories, which is ok but not really our preference. The cooking is modern and delicious - the setting is old fashioned. This makes it a bit of a confused experience. Overall enjoyable but for the price. I'm not sure we would return. There are modern restaurants with similar pricing options we would choose first.

We went for our 20th wedding anniversary. When we arrived there were only another two tables of people and the sound travelled badly, it certainly was neither a relaxing meal or intimate. I have to say the food was 100%, it was creative and tasted beautiful, the waitresses worked hard to please, but we were disappointed that there seemed to be no passion and absolutely no understanding of wine. It just all seemed a bit scripted, and the fact that we paid a lot of money to have a Degustation menu and paired with a wine list, it was shocking to find that the wines we were being given weren't actually on the wine list we had been shown. Really disappointed to be honest, but I feel sad for the chef who was amazing.

This restaurant was a joy from start to finish. Friendly and welcoming staff, a beautiful and relaxed ambience, and the menu is simple but very elegant. I ordered the chicken breast and a glass of red, and was delighted with the housemade bread selection, canape and mushroom amuse-bouche which came out too. A really well-rounded, thoughtful and delicious meal with fantastic attention to detail. Highly recommended.

The PERFECT dining experience. The food was delicious as always and the service was excellent. We had the Saturday evening menu, since many years a great choice for a reasonable price and beautifully presented delicious choice of entrees, mains and desserts. We will be back Graham and team!

Well, what a pleasant surprise. After having been multiple times to Friends before that ugly virus struck, I came back to Perth to find this new location with a new name (Rusty Fig) and a new owner, but same chef (who incidentally is the new owner) so the quality of the food was exactly how I would have expected it, had I known this was the old Friends. So what about the service? Well, Mia, who was taking care of my table tonight, was knowledgeable and friendly with the right amount of attention to detail that you would expect. And price wise? I couldn’t fault the 50$ veal which was served with the bone and a jus to die for. As usual, the carbs were a bit sparse and I can just repeat what I always say in the fancy joints… don’t skimp on the mashed potatoes 😂. Two fancy squirts look as good on a plate and won’t ruin the meal, but make people happy! Thanks for a great dinner! I’ll be back.

We chose Friends because of the outstanding reviews of service, however it was not our experience tonight at all. Service was icy cold. No explanation of the menus or food when we arrived, just instructed to choose which menu we wanted. We had to ask for a non alcoholic drinks menu, we were only given the wine list. $185pp for dinner and not a single word was spoken when each course was brought out, just plonked in front of us and we’d been left with a menu to follow along. There was also no communication when plates were cleared. Plates simply disappeared, apart from being asked twice if we wanted another drink. Nothing about the food, nothing friendly at all. We sat with empty side plates and a butter dish for five courses before anyone bothered to clear them. There are so many excellent places in Perth now with such passion for their food and produce, but this service was truly pub style with no talking about the food at all. Two people served us during dinner but a third served dessert and she was lovely, so we caught a glimpse of what others have experienced. At the end of the meal we weren’t asked how our meal was, and had to ask two people for the bill. Paying was also cold as ice, not even a thank you for coming. Unfortunately the food was only just good and did not compensate for the service. So disappointing.

Disappointed to receive a review that did not enjoy our restaurant. Our sole goal is for the customer to leave with a smile on their face and want to return. With regard to no explanation of the food our assistant manager Michelle took the order and explained that we leave a copy of the menu so that customers can follow as they proceed through the degustation and that if they needed any explanation they could simply ask and we would help. There was a request for non alcoholic wines to match the menu. We do not carry any non alcoholic wines unfortunately (not been asked before). I personally went to the table on several occasions and both the customers were on their phones (not phone calls), so I decided not to interrupt. We asked if the customers were celebrating any occasion and we were advised that they were not. Our staff are advised to be friendly and not familiar, so when it appears that interrupting is not reasonable then leave it for the customer to instigate, which the customer did not. The bread and butter plates are always left on the table in case of a request for more bread. We don't encourage more bread as then customers find it very difficult to finish their meal. Interrupting customers can be problematic as to what each customer may require and in this case we seem to have got it wrong. Our staff have a great reputation for their efforts and we are sorry this time we failed.
