About
The Karalee is a great place to catch up with family and friends, host your next function or follow live sports on our big screens. We are proud to have won Best Casual Dining Pub (AHA WA Awards, Metropolitan 2016) and you’d be silly not to come and try our award winning steak sandwich (AHA WA Awards, Metropolitan winner 2014, 2017,2019 and also finalists in 2015 and 2016). The Karalee was established in 1975 and means “waterhole” in the language of Australia’s indigenous people. The Karalee is true to its name as a popular meeting place for locals and visitors alike (shout out to our regulars from country WA!). We pride ourselves on our relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, great food and drinks and above all, genuine and friendly customer service. We look forward to seeing you at The Karalee soon!

Absolutely enjoyed our dining experience as a large group. Large dining area with comfortable chairs and nice Riverview.
The steak sandwich is no doubt award winning with the juiciness and well-balanced ingredients. Dishes are of good portion, taste delicious and well-plated.
Staff were friendly, accommodative with our large group and specific requests due to young toddlers

Typical pub menu. The place was packed on a Thursday night. It was nice & cosy once you stepped in. Serviced first up at the bar, meals came out quickly.
There were a few specials on the specials board, which was great to see.
I’m not usually an ‘eat a burger out in public kind of girl’ but I decided to order the Ultimate Burger - wagyu beef patty, double smoked bacon, aged cheddar, caramelised onion, tomato, pickles on a brioche bun served with beer battered chips.
B ordered the Road Runner burger - southern fried chicken, double smoked bacon, Swiss cheese, mesclun lettuce, slaw & chipotle mayo on a brioche bun served with beer battered chips.
My burger got a little messy, hence why I don’t order burgers to eat in public, so I decided to eat the rest of it with a knife and fork. The wagyu patty was so hard to cut through & I understand burgers are meant to be eaten both your hands.
All & all, both burgers were $27 each. We weren’t disappointed but it was really nothing special, typical pub meal.

Fabulous suburban pub that bat’s above average - today we had the rankin cod cooked to perfection and the slow cooked lamb shank also perfectly cooked. The staff are friendly and professional, with a pleasant ambience and there’s a good view towards the river. Plenty of free parking right outside.

The food is usually okay , but last night two serves of Rankin Cod were very average. Mash Potato was dry and the serve of fish also very , very small and dry . The cost of a large wine was 26 dollars a glass . I will give it a miss from now on .

My steak sandwich was far from famous or delicious. The steak was full of gristle and fat. It is nothing like the steak sandwiches that the Karalee was famous for.
Visited on footy grand final day. This year the large screen tv was working and not pixilating like last year. But there was no atmosphere, there were no balloons or streamers put up this year. The sound on the tv's were ear piercing and people started leaving after the first quarter of the match.
It was an unwelcoming atmosphere, the staff were continually clearing away stuff off your table whilst you were eating your lunch.
I find it rude that staff drop the "reserved for 7pm" gadget on your table at 2pm whilst you are finishing off lunch and watching the game, it is pretty poor, you could at least wait until your current customers leave.
Overall disappointing experience, we will never have the steak sandwich again after todays experience as everyone's steak was gristly and would not recommend it to others.

Been here a couple times as I’ve seen good reviews about it but honestly not worth it. First time I went stake sandwhich was tuff and burnt and chips way too salty, as I didn’t want to eat the other half I thought my dog may enjoy it but after 20 mins of waiting for the waitress to bring back my food in a takeaway bag I never received it so i left, this waitress was a short young lady with black hair, her customer service wasn’t the best either. Second time I went back I got a steak with pepper sauce, steak was cooked amazingly but the pepper sauce looked like it was old with a skin like layer on top but the customer service was amazing, I had 2 tall girls regularly check up on me and make sure my food was okay and if I needed anything else I remember both their names started with a B. Third time I went was the last time as I notice it was very busy and a lot of plates was being sent back to the kitchen with basically a full meal on it, including mine. My soup for entree was not edible which I got a refund on and my fish and chips tasted like the cheap stuff from the frozen section in coles. By the looks of it they try to shove as many people as possible into a small venue which makes it uncomfortable and can notice the waitresses struggle to walk around and having to walk up to the till is fine but when the line is huge And taking up a lot of room I don’t understand why they don’t just do table service. A lot of people sit around the bar and move the chairs around so they can sit in a group but once again the place is not big enough to do that. Another note of how the place is set out, when I walk in the front door all I smelt was smoke as the smokers area is next to the front door. Also notice that the disability toilets have a lot of chairs in front of them as I couldn’t bring my mum in a wheel chair here for this reason. I like to give places a go a few times before I review them but not sure if this place is under new management or what but it’s not that great as some of the reviews say they are.

We live locally so try to stay local and have popped in here regularly for casual drinks, a quick meal on the run as well as an evening out for dinner with friends and family. Sadly, on all but one occasion it has disappointed on the food. The prices are on the highish end for pub food, and you would then expect it to be likewise with the quality. This is not the case and almost all dishes are well below parr in quality of ingredients and cooking. to shame but a few dishes which have been sent back are.... Calamari which was tasteless and greasy including the 2nd portion after send back. The special bread and butter pudding, quite clearly a previous batch, frozen and poorly reheated. The Spaghetti marinara which was luke warm and tasted like canned tomato soups mixed with some cream. The "beer battered chips" which have no batter on them?? The PARMI..! stone cold chicken with a warmed tomato sauce and melted cheese on top. Definitely precooked and frozen chicken. I could go on. The service is almost perfect from bar and wait staff and all are very well trained. Sadly, the food comes out way too fast and the emphasis seems to be on the numbers served and not the quality of ingredients or cooking. Yes, it's a great location but at these prices, the food should be very good. and it is NOT. Pop in for a beer but if you're looking for good quality, well cooked food then there are better options around locally. .

We visited this restaurant for a family birthday with a table of eight people. All staff members provided fantastic service and the food ordered was sensational from chilli mussels, to rib eye steak to Atlantic salmon. All cooked to perfection all served close together with absolutely amazing service. We had a table by the window with river views. Food and drinks were all reasonably priced. We were required to guarantee $20 per person for the booking but didn’t mind to secure the booking. We will be back again.

I’m not one for writing negative reviews but felt so disappointed on our recent visit to this popular venue.
My wife and I look forward to our visits and in the past have thoroughly enjoyed the Steak Sandwich which we always share and enjoy.
Sadly the famous steak sandwich served up on our last visit was nothing like we’ve enjoyed in the past. The sandwich along with the chips (which were grossly over cooked) served to us barely warm.
The meal looked nothing like the photos and I suggest please go back to that steak sandwich which is pictured on the web that won great acclaim.

This has been one of our favourite casual dining restaurants over the past few years and we visit regularly. I am particularly fond of the Fish of the Day specials which used to represent great value for money and a lovely dining experience. Unfortunately, on our last couple of visits the fish has been over cooked which is criminal with such beautiful seafood and considering the price charged. I’m prepared to give it one more go based on our previous excellent dining experiences but patience is wearing thin. I don’t know if there’s been a change of chef but the quality of cooking needs to improve. Feel so sad writing this but remain optimistic things will improve. Come on Karalee….get your act together

We had a dinner with our friends. My surf and turf with Scotch fillet and 3 king prawns was in my opinion not worth the $50 plus paid.
My wife had the garlic prawns with cream sauce. Plenty on the plate but lacking and real prawn flavour which makes me think the prawns were commercial and frozen and not quality local stuff.
All a bit expensive for what was served.
On the positive side the service was good and the staff polite and efficient.
Great pub but lacking in the restaurant department at prices charged.
My observation and experiences only but try for yourself just don't expect too much.

Our Christmas Eve get together was not hampered by the recently imposed restrictions on pubs.
The staff at the Karalee took the changes in their stride. The staff here are always friendly and despite all wearing masks were all smiling.
The food is always a winner, we snagged the last Crayfish, brilliant value. The steaks, steak sandwiches and squid were up to the high standard we have enjoyed over the years.
Thanks to the wonderful team at the Karalee.

Celebration lunch for my 93 year old mother. What a lovely venue. The staff couldn’t have been any more helpful. So obliging in regards to requests, from me, to make my Mother’s lunch special. They surprised us with balloons on our table. The meals were delicious and plentiful. We were allowed to bring a birthday cake and we were not charged a fee per head (which we have encountered at other venues). They supplied additional plates, cutlery and napkins. The birthday cake arrived, at our table, on a larger serving plate beautifully decorated with chocolate swirls. We will definitely be back and will be recommending the Karalee on Preston to all our families and friends. Thank you for making our celebration so perfect.

I ordered the mushroom risotto and it was inedible. Worst risotto I have ever had
Very mushy, not enough mushroom and too much truffle oil
Couldn’t eat it and wouldn’t even bring it home for my dogs
My husband ordered the surf’n’turf which was cooked well but very small portion and only three prawns.Sauce has been repeating on him all day
