In my opinion, Sentinel Bar & Grill is the best restaurant in Perth. Especially, I love the steak here. I have been to other much more expensive steak houses but this place serves the superb steak with reasonable price. Service is top quality and this is my go-to restaurant for very important business lunch/dinner meetings. Five star restaurant.

Understaffed but lovely service

We had an early breakfast meeting at 0730 this month at Sentinel Bar & Grill. The venue is lovely with a chic ambience, and we found the breakfast menu sufficient to cater to most. As we had a relatively large group over 12, we were asked to order in advanced the days before to facilitate the serving on the day. Unfortunately their email system had some issues which resulted in us having to email our pre order again. However we were advised again on the morning that they will take our order from the table after all. They were also a little understaffed on the day as there were only 2 staff working, which included the manager, aka waitress aka bar tender aka barista. Nevertheless the staff remained friendly and courteous despite the challenges with a busy breakfast crowd.

Read the reviews booked a table for two on Saturday evening. We chose the Scallops and Octopus followed by Chicken breast and Eye fillet plus duck fat potatoes. I had a pint of Hop Hog my wife had a glass of SSB. The bill totalled $203, the food and service was excellent and both of us were overall impressed with the venue.

Nice food but dessert was too much trouble for the staff

Such a shame that our meal ended with a poor experience. Twice we clearly asked for the dessert menu and on the second time of asking the waitress brought the bill instead. She knew we were tourists and all she wanted to do was go shut up and go home. The Australian couple on the table next to us were offered dessert and people were still dining in the restaurant so I don’t understand why our request was so difficult. Anyway no dessert for us as too much trouble

Super start to a culinary fortnight

We come to Australia for the culinary (and of course cultural aspects) and have literally just realised that we should just stay in Perth... and gorge! The Sentinel was our first stop and an easy stagger from our hotel. Booking a breeze, they were relaxed about our delayed arrival on a call and were welcome personified when we finally arrived. We went with the steaks and were very, very pleased that we did. Mrs Reviewer has a super sirloin, huge portion and I had one of the best fillets I've had in years. Sides were great, service was crisp and it was overall an excellent experience. It is a large-ish venure with tables outside if you wanted but inside was a touch cramped in my view... the staff circumnavigated the customers immaculately and it doesn't help having a fat bloke sat in the middle - me - so no real issue and it was rammed all night so clearly booking ahead is a great advantage. Thoroughly recommended.

Absolutely amazing place. The service from staff was above and beyond, the meals and ingredients fresh and of the highest quality. Drinks were also superb! Atmosphere was wonderful and a real vibe. Would definitely recommend for your next special night or occasion or even work doo! Thanks again for your amazing hospitality and making our night so wonderful!

Don’t miss this gem in Perth

This excellent restaurant was visited by us twice in the last week. The first time the food and service was excellent so we decided to return a week later. We were not disappointed as the restaurant fully deserves its lofty ranking on TA. On our first occasion it was just after Easter, the restaurant was quiet and I had an excellent steak whilst my wife enjoyed the fish of the day, grouper, which was very well presented. On our second visit I tried the duck breast whilst my wife had the daily “special” which was slow cooked beef cheek which I can confirm was outstanding - it was so rich in flavour must have been cooking for several hours. Sweet/ cheese is also good and worth trying. The wine list is very well curated with a preponderance of WA wines amongst the reds (as you would expect in Perth) but also alternative suggestions if you want to drink French or Italian. This is a top drawer venue in Perth and packed with both business users from the CBD but don’t let that put you off as this restaurant is well worth a visit. Thank you to Marie who discussed the wine at length and looked after us splendidly, although it is perhaps unfair to single her out as all the mainly European team are very service oriented and deserve a mention. Well done, a lovely evening but do make a booking as it gets crowded.

Much overlooked on the Breakfast scene, but can only rate highly!

Booked a table for my team to enjoy a breakfast meeting, and can say I am so happy that I did! We have a number of restaurants and eateries close to our office, but I just wanted something different. The menu looked interesting and well priced so I chose the Sentinel. The setting is small enough to feel personal, and not overly large so you feel you are dining in a barn! The menu did not disappoint! Between us we had probably ordered everything in the breakfast section and I can say honestly not one dish looked disappointing. Prices are competetive, waitresses were attentive without being intrusive and the coffee was good too.

Who Sous vide steaks? Well apparently the chef of the Sentinel does!

Rather disappointing visit for our wedding anniversary. We didn't find out until we arrived that the main dining area had been booked out by a large party and the table we had booked was actually in the bar. Absolutely no ambience and a very noisy location! We left with a headache! We ordered the Confit Pork Belly entree as a sharing plate. Whilst it was very tasty, the presentation was poor and the two pieces of pork belly were different sizes. For our mains, we ordered the Chateaubriand for 2 again as a sharing plate. The steak had been 'sous vided' supposedly to make it MORE tender. We requested our steak to be rare and we ended up with something that was mushy with a texture like 'playdough' in the centre and without the beautiful caramelised crust that we would expect from a steak cooked well - and that cost $115!! I'm sorry to say, that I would not recommend this to anybody!

Restaurant says its illegal to be on their premises at 9:30pm

To start out with the food and service was great, to begin with. I and 7 colleagues went out for a Christmas Dinner. We got there at 7pm, ordered food around 7:30pm, had a great time and were finishing off our deserts at around 9:20, we had just received a bottle of wine a little earlier but there were only 3 of us drinking by this time. The restaurant advertised it was open until 10pm so it wasn't an issue, the first thing that happened is that while I was distracted, my wine glass was taken away, when I went inside to ask for another I was told that I could borrow a glass but only for 2 minutes, took the glass and decided to overlook that comment. A couple of minutes later another young girl came to the table to say they had called last orders at 9:30 (which was fine as we were not going to be ordering any more drinks) and that we should pack up and leave, a bit taken aback we explained that we had only recently received the bottle of wine at the table, but given the closing time was 10pm we would finish up before then and then leave, the counter offer suggested to us was to be given paper cups for the wine which we could then walk out of the restaurant with, which was declined. Shortly after a young man came out to say that as last orders had been called at 9:30pm, it was now illegal for us to be on the premises, 10 minutes having passed.....the offer of having the wine poured into paper cups wasn't repeated as this would definitely have been illegal, both on the restaurants side with respect to their liquor license and ours, or at least those of us willing to step out onto St Georges Tce with paper cups of wine, which was no one. How the restaurant handled wanting to go home early (or avoid paying their 3 remaining staff for an additional 30 mins) was extremely disappointing and the 180 degree turn in customer service was astonishing.

Last minute and late call for dinner with well loaded friends. Marie graciously fit us in, just prior to last orders. Even though the restaurant was nearly full they managed to deliver a superbly cooked ribeye steak, one of the better ones I have ever had, and I’ve had a few! Service from the (French?) server was exceptional and I apologise for not catching his name. I thoroughly recommend Sentinel and will certainly be back.

First time at the Sentinel - it looks very inviting from outside and inside the ambience is lovely. On Saturday it was a 2 course or 3 course menu. The steak tartar lacked some flavour and the crab pasta had a strong tomato sauce flavour hiding any flavour from the crab. The duck was slightly overcooked and was made to feel tougher than it was as the knife didn't easily cut through the meat. We're used to spending a couple of hours in a restaurant, but an hour after arriving we'd been served all 3 courses and felt a little rushed. Glad to have crossed it off our list of places to try, but doesn't make the 'one to go back to' list.

Local very well furnished and very soft and cared for atmosphere. Clean bathrooms, table service with person taking orders and chef bringing them. Of course, we're in Australia and the clubs close at 9:00! We had fish with pesto and baked cherry tomatoes and angus fillet with asparagus, both dishes at the height of the place without spicy but very delicate flavors. Cointreau ice cream dessert with small fruit, very fragrant Australian beer but not very alcoholic. Total expenditure 130€

Venue Has a good atmosphere and food was ok but the menu is ambiguous. We ordered the 2 course menu thinking it was $53. We asked the waiter if the special fish of the day was included in the set menu and he said yes but clearly it wasn’t when we paid the bill, everything was itemised and not as the $53. I thought this was unfair and the waiter should have explained clearly. We have decided not to return, such a shame as we loved going here in the past.

Very good evening, well accompanied and advised by the staff. Very good meat, unfortunately not cooked blue as requested, apparently very complicated to have around, but the quality of the meat was well at the rendezvous Original dessert, nicely presented and tasty (cream brûlée lemon) Many thanks to Valentine and the rest of the team for this good time.
