Seventeen of us had a brilliant time at South Melbourne’s Railway Hotel today! The food, service and setting were all excellent. Thank you, Ronan & colleagues. It’s a unanimous thumbs up from all of us👍👍.

Beautiful old pub, excellent service, lovely food with generous sizes and well priced. We could not have asked for much more and would happily go again.
Popped in for a couple of pints late on a Friday afternoon and found the pub was busy but was still able to get a seat at the bar. Ordered the lager (12AUD) which was served in a cold glass and was superb for the...warm sunny day. The bar has quite a few TV screens which show both live and simulated racing (dogs and horses), there’s a gambling machine so you can bet on the races and they were also showing the Test match live too. The pub got quite busy at 5pm due to it being “happy hour” but the staff were so good that nobody was waiting long to get served. Can’t comment on the food because I was only there for the beer. Great pub though.More
Had our Company Christams lunch and the service was absolutely incredible. Ronan, the venue manager, went above and beyond for us. Not to mention the delicious good...the brisket and the duck, yum!! Definetely recommend the Railway Hotel😊
We had a group catch-up of 16 people at the Railway Hotel Sth Melbourne. Ronan organised everything from the hotel side of things. He was amazing! Efficient, friendly and very organised. The food was delicious and the wine was perfect. And everything was reasonably priced....We got very positive feedback from attendees. Thanks Ronan and the Railway Hotel, "we'll be back!".More
From the time you walked in the door you felt the vibe . Lovely setting with a welcoming hum. I ordered the scotch Fillet ( medium rare) and was advised to have it medium ( which I did nervously). What a great call it was...perfect and tender and tasty . Matched off with a yummy cauliflower gratin and George salad with a lovely South Australian Shiraz .More
Chicken and ribs dinner did not come with the salad that was advertised on the menu. Very bland looking dinner. The chicken wings were overcooked and definitely not value for money. Will not be using the restaurant again as there is better pub grub available...locallyMore
Hi Go Places, i am not sure that you are reviewing the correct Hotel we do not have Chicken and Ribs Dinner on our menu?? Regards Richard Railway Hotel South Melbourne
We had dinner at this hotel. The menu had been updated since a previous dinner. i had the BBQ Beef Brisket which was well cooked and very enjoyable to eat. Service was very good and drinks were reasonably priced.
Great lunch for group of 16 ex BP folk. Ronan does a super job catering for us. Great value lunch. Everybody delighted with the food and service. We’ll be back! David N
Definitely worth a visit. We were looking to try places we hadn’t been before and came across this gem. The staff were friendly & went out of their way with the service. The food was magnificent and the beef brisket, which is their specialty, was...to die for. Will definitely be coming back.More
Beautiful food with PARKING FINE Parking signs in area are ambiguous. Should be written more clearly especially in an article area that has many of NESB. DISAPPOINTING AFTER DINNER EXPERIENCEMore
Hi Sean, i am glad you enjoyed your experience at The Railway Hotel South Melbourne. I am sorry that you received a parking fine, but unfortunately that is out of our control. Your rating effects how we as a business are perceived to future customers,...More
Was a really great day. We loved it and will come again. The food was outstanding and the service excellent. Pool table was a good excuse to settle in for the afternoon.
One of the best pubs in Melbourne these days for nailing that difficult to nail mix of casual, quality, ambience and service. OK, so me and my friends have been quite good customers over the years, so this review may seem a bit exaggerated. However...for all the choice and range of similar pubs in and around the inner suburbs, and we all go other places as well, we keep coming back here. Why? The food is delicious without being expensive. The beer is cold. The staff are friendly and efficient. The other patrons are not (too) noisy enjoying themselves….just like our bunch. A definite 9/10 as a pub.More
Our group of 30 attended the Railway for a catch up event. From the initial request to hold the event right through to the last person leaving... for us everything went very smoothly. People were very happy with the venue and room....the setting up and...service during to the night was excellent. Any questions were dealt with in a polite and efficient manner. Credit to the chef with the food on offer claiming favourable comments from all.....the entrees were a big hit ! I'm sure your establishment will be promoted well through word of mouth from all who attended. Thanks againMore
We were a party of 12 for Sunday lunch and we decided to sit in the outdoor area. The staff were so accomodating and helpful. We then moved inside after lunch into the bar where they had some live music. Good atmosphere. We had been...for dinner there the previous week and so glad we returned for lunch. Highly recommend, very reasonably priced.More
