Only issue is that if you are a bit late you will have lesser options to choose from.Cheap but home style Indonesian cooking. Good food. relaxed atmosphere

Today I have lunch with my family in Cafe Batavia Melbourne. We have frequently come and eat at
this authentic Indonesian cuisine, which is located at St Kilda Road, Melbourne, nearby the Indonesian Consulate General Office. Our apartment is situated nearby the Consulate, whenever we feel home sick for Indonesian food, we must have come and eat there. The most popular authentic menu is Nasi Goreng, Gado-gado, Iga Bakar, Soto Ayam, Soto Betawi, Siomai Bandung, Tahu Isi, Tempe Goreng etc. If you are a fan of Indonesian Cuisine, and it happens to be in Melbourne, take a tram stop nr 29 at St Kilda Road, just a few step you will find Cafe Batavia.

Had a nasi padang with beef rendang, some oyster sauce chicken and gado gado. The cooking is very authentic, if not a bit too oily for me. The lack of heat (toned down for Australia I guess) is easily rellaced with the fresh homemade sambal - I had to ask for it.
Will definitely go again.

The Sop Buntut is the best in town. The serve it with “emping” (lotsa of it! It is very rare, believe me!), the sambal is not very spicy (i like it! And when I mix it with the soup: heaven!).
The price is right.
Had a good time there.
Next time I visit this cafe, I will try “Rujak Cingur”.

Was in Melbourne for work function. Found this great Indonesian restaurant nearby. The place is actually more of tiny cafe with around 8 tables. Entrance a bit hard to find as it is through the alley (behind Little Pho & Sushi Hana. Ordered ayam bakar bumbu rujak (Grilled rujak spice chicken) and perkedel(potato friters). Food were generous, very tasty and authentic. Price very reasonable w rice, chicken maryland piece and some greens only $11.50. Looking at other tables, food looks equally great. Would definitely come back.

This place is hidden down a side alley. I've walked past here plenty of times without noticing it and only spotted it after waiting in a queue outside a nearby cafe for a few minutes.
The cafe itself isn't much to look at but the food is amazing. It's so tasty and quite cheap as well. The presentation of the food was also better than I expected from a cheap lunch joint.

Hidden behind the main St Kilda Rd shops and buildings, this Indonesian place serves yummy Indonesian food at reasonable prices. Beef Rendang, egg plants are two of the favorites. Stuff are always nice and friendly and smiling.
But I have to add on a couple of visits the beef Rendang hasnt been the best.
This place is close to the Indonesian consulate in Melbourne. Food must be authentic if they want to get some of their business.

Wow!
Fresh spicy Indonesian food.
Located down the driveway of 618 St Kilda Road, Melbourne.
There is the regular menu with 38 dishes and there are the daily specials.
I opted several times to have the daily specials. For $11 you get a choice of two meat varieties and one vegetable variety served with either steamed of fried rice.
Each variety is freshly made including all the spices they grind themselves or leave whole in the dish. This is authentic cooking.
Loved it.

I don't know what to say except that the beef rendang was powdery and awful, the staff were rude. and we saw mouse droppings. We found this place by accident as we were staying at a nearby hotel - our mistake. Definitely avoid!
