One of the Travelmints team was missing Balinese food, so we went along to Warung Agus. They've been making Balinese food since 1989, and their Babi guling is insane! You'll definitely be asking for more crispy pork crackling.
They have a traditional and authentic Balinese menu, as well as a cocktail menu that reminds you of a trip to Bali. Even the cocktail straws feel like the real thing.
Our favourite disk was the nasi campur, which is mixed meat with rice. We also had the fish slices with tamarind, the ayam betutu and tahu istimewa, which means tofu in Indonesian. You can also get a variety of chilli sauces to go with your meal for an extra kick!

Authentic and delicious! We love this local restaurant and the family staff are darlings. If you’re missing Indonesian food from your travels, you must go here - and they do takeaway and freezer meals too during Covid. All the best food Babi guling, ribs and gado gado and satay of course. Hungry just thinking about it...

Dinner with family. Amazing feed me menu with great flavours, variation in courses. The krupuk were the best I have ever eaten. Service was friendly, portions really good for our party of 6 and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Pricing is considered cheap for the array and quality of the dishes. A definite return for us. Thank you.

I’ve been meaning to go to Warung Agus since it opened.....which I’m guessing was about 30 years ago......at least I don’t lose sight of my goals ..... lol
Four of us ate here last. The general ambience when we arrived was warm, welcoming and the place smelt wonderful. The staff were helpful in explaining the drinks on offer and the various pertinent food details.
Two ordered the tasting plate each and two of us ordered a pork dish.
Oh. My. God.
The food was simple yet stunningly delicious. There was not a single word of complaint from our table. Every single aspect of the food was perfect. And I mean perfect. And the cocktails were dangerously delicious too!
One small complaint......my chair was really uncomfortable, but I’ll know to be aware of that for next time. And yes, there will definitely be a next time.....before we left we booked in to return in a few weeks time!
You really must not wait as long as I did to go here....... I definitely regret it.
Thank you to the friendly staff at Warung Agus.......see you in a few weeks!

We had never tried Balinese food before, and we are so glad we did. The staff was warm, inviting and happily guided us through the menu. Each of us three chose something very different, and were pleased with our dishes. They were very flavorful and ample. The black rice pudding was amazing. We highly recommend this restaurant, and will definitely be back.

Lovely meal tonight with my partner and two friends. We sat outside and it was low key and lovely. Food was expected with authentic flavours and servings.

We really enjoyed a lovely quiet meal at this restaurant. Staff were very friendly, courteous and knowlegable about various dishes. Most of us had mixed banquet which was beautiful and had very generous servings. My husband who is allergic to nuts was advised of the dishes that were suitable for him and really enjoyed his meal. The only criticism was we thought restaurant was a little overpriced.

I have been visiting Bali for the past 26 years on a yearly basis, participating in cooking classes, immersing ourselves into their culture and I found very little authenticity in the food served here. Mie Goreng was served with Hokkien noodles and the flavors did not strike any resemblance to Balinese cuisine. I've had way better and I think Warung Agus' menu needs refreshing.

On entry to the restaurant there was an obvious Indonesian flavour in the decor. This authentic feel was soon expanded when the waiting staff were obviously Balinese and and were fluent in Bahasa.
As a group of 3 we ordered and shared. The entrée was the corn fritters and they were very tasty. The mussels were just the same as anywhere you get curry.
Main course Nasi Campur, vegetarian. Amazing array of flavours from 6 choices surrounding the Nasi Putih (white rice).
There was a pork dish for my friends which they said was so tender and flavoursome. I can only take their word for it as I don't eat pork. It did look great though.
Dessert was, crepes with palm sugar and a couple of nice little additions tasted very sweet and most enjoyable..
Decor was pleasant and reasonably comfortable. Service though was very slow with very little check in to see if everything was OK. Maybe the staff (family members) need a bit of polish on their service skills.
Overall it was a nice night with great food.

Inside tables was full, we not mind to have outside table and a bit cold. The owner and daughter really care of customers really well. We had 2 different balinese dishes. So tasty and i dont feel home sick anymore.
Its really recommended to Australian or anyone who worried of hot food. Its not spacy but if like spacy they gonna serve you chili souce shrimp paste Sambal.
Not wondering was full, amazing food, we would like to be back soon to try other.
Thanks

The "signature dish" (Babu Guling) is quite good but the roast pork was extremely dry. However the delivery was really fast!

From the decor to the menu to the staff and service this small restaurant is a touch of Bali in downtown Melbourne. Sitting in a balé legs crossed in traditional Bali style you are served by the smiling happy Balinese dressed in traditional sarong amd kebaya. And just like in Bali the food servings are more than generous, prepared by the Balinese owner Agus, with the use of traditional spices and cooking secrets. Every visit, and I have made many over the past 25 years or so, this restaurant never fails to deliver good food, good service and that relaxing friendly atmosphere Bali is famous for. If you are a Bali food lover, or ever a food lover of any kind, Warung Agus is a must visit in Melbourne.

This place is a favourite with Melbourne friends who love Balinese food. The starters of calamari and prawns were fresh if a little strongly flavoured, Baba Guling lived up to expectations, Nasi campur both vegetarian and non vegetarian had plenty of variety but again rather heavy on the sauces. A restaurant at this level should really be BYO.
