A very special evening for this solo traveller

I did alot of research before booking my last night in Darwin at this restaurant. Having spent most of my trip eating camping food, I wanted to splurge on a special food experience which would have a Darwin influence and be a celebration of local and indigenous ingredients and a taste of several dishes. The 5 course degustation meal with matched wines at Pepperberry did not disappoint. The ambience was elegant but understated, almost serene. The staff were welcoming and helpful and my waitress assisted with some special requests ( I don't like wood flavour in my Chardonney). The food, overall was divine and plated beautifully. The pepperberry bread (made onsite each day) with salbush dukkah and the chili and lime barrmundi (skin crisped beautifully) were standouts for me. I also particularly loved the Shaw and Smith Sauv Blanc Semillion which was paired with the fish. A new favourite! Just a note - the evening I went was the night of the Mindee market, so a bit quieter than usual, I hear. For a special evening - I highly recommend Pepperberry in Darwin.

Great new restaurant in the Darwin CBD. Amazing service and the food is outstanding! The seafood platter is perfect for two people and leaves room for one of their excellent desserts - go for the Chocolate Sin! Everything was spot on. Well done everyone!

Hilton Darwin hotel and restaurant are just perfect for a stay in Darwin . Rooms are modern to Hilton standards , the restaurant breakfast and dinners are superb . I had the coffee takeaway each morning in the reception area which was perfect and since I was staying 14 nights they all got to know exactly how I liked my coffee and knew the room number to charge . Great service very happy customer . The bar lounge is also very stylish (restaurant and bar recently renovated). Great cocktail and wine and beer selections .

How does this restaurant justify such awards

Visitor to hotel (Review coming) went to higjly rated restaurant. Waited 10 minutes to be greeted then couldn’t find reservation ( made two weeks back via website). Shoddy staff tried to put in worst spots , eventually put in back table after much fuss. Ordered a prawn entree. Arrived frozen vietnamese prawns . Asked waiter why frozen imported prawns told that most food is imported in Darwin that they cannot get fresh seafood that even oysters are imported from the USA. Questioned NT Barramundi on the menu told that could be Australian. Barramundi was ok but was soft and obviously frozen. Very poor form. Darwin has fantastic local restaurants that showcase local produce , seafood and indigenous ingredients try Phat Mango and Oyster Bar all fresh food straight from the gulf. Don’t listen to what you are told at the Hilton.. these people do not support local suppliers and obviously care about their bottom line and profit rather than quality

However, I am very surprised about all your comments about our supply chain as this information is clearly absolutely wrong. We never had any oysters from the US and never will, they are all from South Australia. All our seafood is locally sourced and we don't use cheap Asian products as suggested by you. Our Barramundi is from a farm less then 50km away from Darwin, you cant get fresher Barramundi! I am so sorry that the wrong information resulted in such such an angry review accusing us for not supporting local business. Once again, I am sorry that your experience at our award-wining restaurant was not in line with your expectations and we hope to have another opportunity in the future to welcome you back. Excellent restaurant in town

I had a dinner at this beautiful newly opened restaurant tonight. Me and my partner ordered two entrees to share and Scotch fillet as mains. While we waiting for our entrees, we received a complimentary bread from the restaurant. It’s Native PepperBerry loaf with bush dukkah. I love it as I can taste the hint of pepper from the bread plus the spices and the crunchy texture of the dukkah. We didn’t wait too long for our entrees arriving. The scallop was well cooked I can taste the sweetness plus the truffle pea purée with a sprinkle of chorizo crumble added the richness on the palate. Char grilled squid was also nice too. The smokiness from char grill added extra flavor on to the squid and it’s perfectly match with the spicy chipotle aioli. Main course steak was cooked perfectly. The texture was juicy and tender. Caramelized onions with fresh butter on top of the steak enriched the flavor of whole dish. Waiting staff here were very professional but can be slightly polished. Team leader, Grace, was awesome and our section waitress, Amelia, was very attentive. All in all, I really enjoyed tonight and will definitely come back here again.

Luxury stay, on a budget

Overall the hospitality and service from the staff was amazing. All the staff here are extremely friendly and will give you the time to help or direct you in the best way possible. The quality of the rooms were excellent ranging from the comfiest beds to Luxury bathrooms! 🤩 There is also a desk area if you need to do some work or any form of admin work. For me as a uni student I found this very helpful as I was able to stay on top of my work in a comfortable area, whilst still enjoying my holiday. The breakfast was excellent, having the buffet style of service allows you the variety of foods which can cater to anyone’s needs.

Service missed the mark

Service started off exceptionally well and declined as the night went on. The place itself is beautifully decorated and really really clean. We arrived early in the evening and were promptly seated and served. Instead of waiting for us to have our cocktails we were served entrees. My scallops were not so nice and cold. The cocktails arrived after our entrees were cleared and we had to ask them to hold our mains. Not great timing. Also something I hated was the servers tricking customers ‘still or sparkling water?, when tap water is also an option. I don’t like feeling like I am being deceived when ordering from an expensive restaurant & already paying big money to dine there. The mains were nice but not as described in my opinion on the menu. Expensive for what we received. We had to fine a waiter to ask to order a glass of wine & for the dessert menu. Was disappointing when the table next to us who arrived much later than us were being extremely well attended to so covid staff shortages couldn’t be blamed. Just poor service. We got sick of waiting for the bill so walked to exit to get served.

Wonderful team at PepperBerry

We are locals and dine regularly at PepperBerry Restaurant for the delicious buffet breakfasts. Doreen and team are just amazing and always treat us like friends as we arrive. The service from all the staff is amazing, the restaurant is immaculate and the food is fresh and delicious. I can’t recommend them highly enough. We recently went for breakfast to start a day of celebrations for my Mums 90th birthday. The staff gathered around the table and sang happy birthday to her then gave her a lovely birthday desert complete with candles which made for a lovely start to the day. Thanks everyone at PepperBerry we’ll see you again soon :-)

Sophisticated dining with a native tinge

I had read elsewhere reviews widely ranging from 5 star to 1 star, the latter mostly complaints about service. However I had no such complaints and had a very nice evening. Complimentary bread roll with olive oil and dukka was nice. Starter for me was char grilled squid (18) which tasted better than it looked. Then grilled barramundi (32) which was a fairly nice thick chunk, unlike some places. I also like that you get some broccolini & chat potatoes so no need to order sides as you perhaps do in Sydney, with a mere small smear of sauce etc on the plate. As everything prior was so good tried (for full academic review, as you do) baked cheesecake (12) which was suitably small to end a very nice three course meal. Enjoyed with an excellent Jozef Chromy riesling (Tas) which was good value at 12 for a glass. Service throughout was friendly and correct although it got busier later. Although hotel restaurants are less than my go to, both this and the Double Tree Aqua have both been excellent.

Fine Dining in Darwin

Hubby and I visited last week for date night and are now planning to return for our anniversary celebration in a few months. The setting is lovely, the staff are professional, attentive, and welcoming, and the food... Every meal we had, from breads to dessert, was delicious and beautifully put together on the plate. We appreciated the showcase of Australian ingredients throughout the menu, and the masterful way in which they were used. We had a lovely time and would highly recommend a visit. This restaurant has both class and quality - a rare find in Darwin.

Great birthday gathering

We visited the restaurant on 23rd May and had an amazing time for a birthday gathering with friends. The place is comfortable and there are various food options on the menu. We originally were there for their seafood platters and didn't know they changed their dinner menu. Therefore, we were a bit confused about what to order to start with. However, thanks to Elizabeth from F&B team, we had an amazing night. She gave us recommendations starting from starters to beverages with a big and warm smile. Those four mains recommended from her were absolutely outstanding. My favourite one was pork belly with crispy pork skin on the top! My friends enjoyed their steak and a Zombie cocktail (I can't find it on the menu). My friend even ordered twice! Additionally, she was singing a happy birthday song with holding a cake out. The people from next table was singing the song together with us as well. That really made my friend's birthday special.

The Complete Hospitality Package

We have been to Pepperberry a few times and their consistency of service, ambience and food/beverage is commendable. Special shout out to lovely Grace, she will note that your champagne is fizzy enough and your steak is cooked to your liking and change it if it doesn't make the cut. I love that staff are smiling, attentive without being intrusive and enjoy looking after the guests. Menu is also imaginative with croc, barra and buffalo on offering, executed well and caters to different dietary requirement. Wine menu is ok with couple of French offerings & Penfold's St. Henri by the glass but that's the only criticism.

Great for groups and families.

The menu has a good selection of both food and drinks. Our eye fillets were excellent. The service was excellent, Elizabeth was very efficient, professional and friendly. It was my husbands birthday and he was surprised with a piece of cake and a sparkler, this was done without asking, which greatly impressed me. The restaurant itself is fairly open and impersonal, couples are sat quite closely together. I was pleasantly surprised that the lightning was dimmed, which created a relaxed atmosphere. Overall I am happy with the experience. I would say more suited to groups and a few people were there with kids. Not really the romantic setting for couples.

Thank you Doreen and Losena at the PepperBerry restaurant at the Mitchell St Hilton. The new version after refurbishment is excellent with marble and the lovely buffet area. I have been coming here for ten years and always appreciate the smiling faces of the girls and the other staff. A happy demeanour and a good welcome much so much difference when you are away from home. Breakfast is a great experience in the new facility with a full range of foods and beverages. Keep smiling team - your customers really appreciate it.
