Primitivo Grill is off the beaten track but well worth the find. Inviting + welcoming staff explained the menu choices and it didn’t disappoint. We started with a warm bread basket with olives + hummus dips. Followed by ravioli with langoustines + the Irish beef fillet which certainly impressed my Irish husband. We shared a panna cotta and were disappointed that the tiramisu + poached were no longer available. Overall the food was amazing the wine was divine + the price was reasonable for the quality of the food. We loved it…..

Stumbled upon this place on the way somewhere else and looked in the window at the menu. I have long had a thing about "real" beef ravioli and this was right there at the top of the pasta dishes. This was around 10:30am and they were not open but the cleaner of all people opened the door, earnestly convincing us that it was a fabulous place and took a booking for us the same evening. We were not disappointed - wow, just wow! We didn't eat that much, we have rather frugal appetites but what we did have was fabulous. Calamari were as good as we've had anywhere in the world including Rome, Genoa and Portafino (tartare souce excellently blended too). The Wild Boar meatballs were just ridiculously delicious, recommended by the owner since he had changed the menu and the tempura beef was no longer available. The Beef Ravioli I had been craving for years was sensational, the sauce and flavour sublime. All accompanied by a gorgeous bottle of Primitovo Puglia Red, reasonable priced. Tiramisu and Panacotta (my wife does not usually go anywhere near a dessert dish) were amazing, and the finishing touch of Limoncello perfected the event. There are horrific road works going on outside, but don't be put off by them, This place should definitely be on the wish list of anyone who loves food made from scratch from fresh, high quality ingredients by a highly skilled chef.

I had the pleasure of dining at Primitivo and it was an exceptional experience. From the moment we walked in, the cozy atmosphere and elegant decor made us feel right at home. The food was simply delicious; Each dish was carefully prepared and full of authentic flavor. I especially want to highlight the service of our waiter, Daniel. From the first moment, Daniel was attentive, friendly and extremely professional. He recommended dishes and wines to us with great knowledge and enthusiasm, making our experience even more special. A must visit while in Malta & specifically St. Julian’s. The food is just phenomenal, staff are very friendly and informative - offered recommendations on a wine pairing and size/cut of meat. You can select your own cut and weight of beef in the restaurant and the food is prepared in full view through the glass into a section of the kitchen. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would highly recommend to others.

We ate here twice and it would have been more but unfortunately, only discovered it at the end of our holiday. My wife and I really enjoyed the beef cheeks and steak we had which was cooked to perfection and beautifully presented! There is an excellent choice on the menu and was tempted to upgrade to the fantastic choice of large steaks on offer, but sadly too big a portion for one - no doubt for two it would be fine. We had a sweet which was also excellent as was the service by Liz, who was very attentive and efficient . The decor is upmarket and the vibe cool, enhancing the dining experience. It was without doubt, the best restaurant we visited in our week visit to Malta (we were in the Portomaso area of St Julian ). If you happen to just be walking past, Don’t be put off by the road works in the street. As once inside the ambiance and food is worth it. A great find and a cracking restaurant.

We had the most amazing steak from the specials. It’s not cheap, but the staff were attentive and so lovely. Nothing was too much trouble. They even provided a hot griggle so that I could cook my steak a little more than my husband. Thoroughly recommend a visit.
