We had a farewell dinner last night at Kobe of an unusual kind. I ordered - after fish neck was not available - a steak which I had many times. My order medium rare was taken (and I was asked how I like my steak.)....The meal arrived, very much overdone, served an a plate not sizzling plate and looking unimpressive. I did sent it back as it also lacked taste and was not up to standard. The rest of my family ate their main. After 25 minutes the waitress comes back informing me the chef could not assure me a medium rare steak and would not do another one. Not a courteous encounter to fairly regular customers, not something anyone should expect. But when a restaurant/chef can not produce another steak and be courteous to his clients I think it’s time to hang up the apron. Sell fish and chips 🍟More

We have been many times in the past. We went for my sons birthday but it has changed for the worse. For $71 per head we got two scallops, 1 prawn, a handful of beef, 2 slices of sushi, 2 slices of sashimi, salad and...bean shoots and rice and a miso soup which would be about $30. We got the kids the chicken thigh which was 700 grams and they charged us $64 which looking at coles you can get 1.2kg for $14. Very sad as we use to get a lot more food for the value (there use to be more prawns etc) . We will be looking elsewhere in futureMore

We went with a group of 7 including 2 children. Food is sensational, service is excellent and children were fascinated by the chef who cooked at our table. We chose cheaper banquet option which gave us lots of food served at a good pace. Unfortunately...most of us couldn't fit in a dessert. Wine is reasonably priced.More

This is a nice enough restaurant but felt service was lacking on a not so busy Saturday night. Sashimi was bland. My bento box was quite nice. 6 of us visited and meals were served at quite separate times. Was hard to understand why it...should have been this way despite their continual apologies.More

I have eaten at many Japanese restaurants but this one would have to be my favourite. The service we get is always great, Gillian and Junus always make sure our time spent here is relaxed and a great experience. The food is always so fresh...and tasty, it's well presented and good portion sizes. The wine list, although we usually get the same one, is quite extensive but has a full bar as well so I'm sure there will be something else you could choose. Well worth the visit if you are in the area or looking for quality Japanese food.More

Look I admit it was New Year's Eve but we had an 8 pm booking but the Tepanyaki chef did not turn up until 9:15, totally unacceptable. We were just left sitting there with no explanation, we had drunk our wine (to fill the time...in) and so they kept pressing for us to buy more of theirs. The Tepanyaki chef told us they did not put on enough cooks as they didn't want to pay the NYE premium. Not good enough! we will not go back. Be warned you may have a long wait for your food, it was good when it finally arrived. It looks like greedy business practices to me.More

Went on a busy Friday night. Too few waiting staff on. Took 15 mins just to get someone to take a drinks order and bring some menus. Waitresses were good and food came out fairly quickly after we ordered, although 2 drinks didn’t arrive till...after the food started coming out. Gyoza and tempura good but mains average. Shabu Shabu was tasteless even with the sesame sauce added. This restaurant has been there 30+ years but used to be classy. Wouldn’t go again based on this experienceMore

Kobe Teppanyaki situated in the office building shop 7 / 261-265 Blackburn Road, Doncaster East. You hardly miss this place cause it's located in the office building and you'll see the Kobe Teppanyaki sign. It might be a challenge to travel using Public Transport but...no worries by private vehicle because there are plenty underground car parks available in the building; We're glad to be invited by Kobe Team to have the Teppanyaki experience. The restaurant was really spacious, clean and neat; It has two sections according to your preference whether you want to have Teppanyaki or A-La-Carte. We came on the weekend around 7.30 PM and it was so busy full of people celebrating many occasions on the teppanyaki section. The customer service was attentive and friendly; Both chef and customer staff were very professional to ensure to you have or don't have any allergic or dietary requirements. They're really concerned with health and safety food delivery. Kobe Teppanyaki offers different teppanyaki set according to your preference. - Kobe Set: combination of different proteins (chicken, beef & seafood) + Tatsuta Age (Deep Fried Chicken) - Kaisen Set: combination of seafood (Prawn, Scallops, Squid, Salmon) - Tokyo Set: combination of different proteins (chicken, beef & seafood) - Wagyu Set: combination of beef & seafood (Premium Wagyu Beef, Lobster, Scallop & Salmon) - Yasai Set *Vegetarian*: Eggplant, Tofu, Mushroom, Vegetable Tempura During our visit, we're advised by the manager to have Kobe Set. Each teppanyaki table consists between 6-8 people, we're being looked after by the friendly, funny and nice chef Howard. One of the good thing about having teppanyaki is to make new friends and enjoy the show from the skillful chef. The entree dishes (Miso Soup, Salad & Tatsuta Age *Deep Fried Chicken) and our drinks came first while the chef was still preparing the cooking and heating up the teppanyaki cooktop. We ordered Japanese Sunset (orange juice, apple juice, raspberry) and Virgin Pina Colada (coconut, pineapple juice). Both mocktail drinks had a fantastic and amazing taste; Not only the taste but the presentation was also appealing, we've got couple questions from other guests asking about what drinks we had LOL :) We had good first impression on their entree dish - fried chicken. It was crispy and crunchy from the outside, perfectly cooked from the inside. It wasn't greasy and well seasoned; As soon as we finished our entree, we couldn't wait to find out our teppanyaki main highlights (seafood, chicken & beef). To begin the teppanyaki show, the chef cooked the garlic and this made us really hungry due to the fragrance coming from fried garlic. Ohhh each of you will be getting two dipping sauces: Citrus Soy which's perfect companion for seafood and Sesame dipping sauce for chicken and beef. The chef would offer you Spicy Mayo (** this is so good!!) on the side if you want to add extra spicy flavour. The chef cooked Prawn, Sakana (Fish) and Teriyaki Chicken altogether into one teppanyaki cooktop. The prawn, Sakana (Basa Fish) and Chicken were perfectly grilled and well seasoned. Both Basa fish and Teriyaki chicken were so tender and juicy. The taste was really rich and flavourful. For the steak, We asked for Medium Rare Steak and it was perfectly grilled as we asked. The steak was very juicy and good quality; Hmm we're just wondering how good would that be if you choose the Premium Wagyu Set???!! The chef totally nailed all the protein dishes. After having all heavy dishes, we had the grilled seasonal vegetables with bean sprouts, mushrooms, carrots and spinach. Finally, we had fried rice; We're so entertained while he was preparing the fried rice. It's the game time where you need to catch the bowl of fried rice. Mr.Epi didn't manage to keep up with the game; he ruined the game and dropped the fried rice on the floor ... ***He felt bad to have the customer staff cleaning the floor On the other hand, Miss.Epi managed to catch the bowl though almost dropped it!! LOL "There is always a place for a dessert" - Ice Cream (Black Sesame, Green Tea, Vanilla, Red Bean) We opted for the black sesame and green tea. The ice cream was really delicious, creamy and not too sweet! Love both black sesame and green tea. Overall, we had such an amazing night to have teppanyaki experience in Kobe Teppanyaki. We'd definitely come back when we're around this area and recommend this place to our friends. Note: We’d like to say thank you to Kobe Teppanyaki’s team for having us. Disclaimer: Honest opinions expressed here are purely on our own and are based on our experience at that time YAY: Kobe Set NAY: Fried Rice was slightly lack of seasoning Taste: 4.5 Service: 5.0More

It was one of our family's 18th birthday, so his parents arranged a table for 16 and most of the immediate family came to celebrate. We had a fun night. Several of those present had never experienced the teppanykaki style of cooking. They really enjoyed...seeing the chefs use the very hotplate to cook the food. We had one of the set menus. I think it was $55 per head, which is not cheap but there was plenty of food and management allowed a cake from outside to be cut and served with our choice of ice cream. Basically the meal began with pickles, sweet potato spring rolls, then a small salad each. Two vegetarians were well catered for and had their food cooked first. At this point the chefs began to cook fish, chicken, and beef, plus beansprouts. The final act was the fried rice, which featured ribbons of omlette. This was the time when bits of omlette were fired at the mouths of anyone willing to try to catch the egg in their mouth. Only the grandparents refused! Later bowls were launched at the hands of the diners. The floor was pretty messy when a couple of people missed the bowl filled with fried rice! All good fun. We took our own wine. Not sure what the corkage was. It was an enjoyable evening.More

We come here every year on the 13th feb for my partners birthday and have been to at least ten other reps yikes restaurants across Melbourne. I’ll start with the positives, Howard our chef was awesome, as every chef we have had is. The food...was perfect and lots of it. As for value for money, this place can’t really be beaten. Do the teppanyaki!!! I’m not a person that bothers with what a restaurant looks like as long as it’s clean and tidy, I’m not there to look at walls, I’m there to eat. Yes this is a dog at other reviews comments about what it looks like. The sad thing is the head waitress is rude and not very welcoming, she completely forgot our drinks and was rude about it. If she was not there I had happily give this place 5 stars. But please go there as the chefs and other stuff are awesome, just try and keep away from her.More

My 20 year old niece and friend were visiting from Brisbane. They were the meat & 3 veg kids. We decided on Kobe Teppanyaki as we thought this would broaden their horizons. It certainly did and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food was great...and the atmosphere even greater. John, our chef explained the food and played to the enjoyment of the girls. They even enjoyed eating the crispy prawn heads.More
