We arrived by motorbike with friends who had already been, the starter with salted meat was fabulous, then the frico with cevapcici of beef (same origin as the salted meat and the same breeding) was stratospheric. Mouth-watering dessert..... as soon as I can I'll go there to taste the meat steaks that come from a Spessa farm near Cividale del Friuli. I highly recommend it also because the owners are approachable, very kind, courteous and ready to please customers. Prices appropriate to the quality of the products offered (excellent).

We were recommended to try this place on the periphery of the beautiful little town of Strassoldo, just outside Cervignano, Friuli by one of the residents of the nearby castle,and were not disappointed.
The menu was fulsome and the food that we chose was fresh, delicious, in good quantity and the service was prompt, helpful and delightful.
We shall definitely return to savour the winter menu.

What a strange place the little horse.
It's the classic Friulian tavern, but from the lower Friuli area, it looked for its core business, but I'm not sure it found it.

First courses made using different flours from spelled, rice, hemp flour, tops, good combinations and fresh condiments. Variety of menu with wide choice. Excellent frico!! Everything cooked at the right time. Abundant vegetable side dishes.
We will be back to try the desserts too. Excellent service, real home cooking. Cozy place.

We wanted to taste the real Friulian frico and we found the trattoria-fricheria "al Cavallino". It met our expectations!!! Thanks go to the landlord, Mr. Renzo and his wife. Excellent 'free tasting of myrtle and levistico grappa, which would be wild celery.

Very informal environment. The entrance hall in this period is not very hot especially if you are close to the door. The menu is a hymn to the real Friuli. I took the cotechino with turnips in vinegar and then a frico with chives and bacon. The latter is very good but the dose is for two. All accompanied with a good light beer from the Sauris coffee offered. Q/P ratio at the top!

Al Cavallino is very much a locals' place, and all the better for it. The taglieri (cold cuts of cow, goose, goat or pig) are carefully selected and well worth starting with. I took a goat meat plate from 'Wolf' [a producer from up in the mountains] with pear and smoked ricotta and it was very good indeed. Of course, you come here for the Frico... and here they serve it every which way but with ice-cream. Great quality, with tasty polenta on the side. Wines were very good value and service was friendly. If you're nearby and in need of something homely and satisfying, you can't go wrong coming here.

We received the information about La Fricheria by one friend’s word of mouth. In fact the menu offers a wide selection of unknown frico variety such as honey, ham, pears and so on(you can read it from the attached menu picture). The owner’s philosophy includes: short supply chain, biological raw materials, personal relationships with the suppliers, artisanal raw materials (cheese and bier as an example) and... time to work in kitchen to properly cook the perfect frico. This restaurant was located near our B&B. We wanted something other than pizza and the reviews were good on tripadvisor, plus our host suggested the frico.
There were only a couple of people in the restaurant. The menu is in Italian and the owners speak very little English. We ordered a meat dish, frico, and pasta. The meat dish turned out to be a hamburger with polenta. The burger didn't have a lot of flavor and it was overcooked. The polenta cakes were plain. The pasta had tomato sauce and hamburger meat. Like the polenta, there wasn't a lot of seasoning in the dish. We ordered the original frico, which is similar to a cheese quiche. It wasn't very exciting.
The best part of the meal, dessert. We had a yummy fried ice cream cake. It was incredible.
Service was slow, which is typical in Italy.
This is a family restaurant in which one feels like they are eating in the home of someone who knows how to cook, but only simple dishes.

We were quite in despair, looking for a pizzeria, lost in the area...and then we found this little simple trattoria. We had a perfect dinner, with excellent wine and a top class frico. The variety of frico they offer is incredible and the products all come from Friuli. We will be back soon!

I have eaten in this small family-run outfit a few times, and every time i am amazed by the food ! the owner is very serious about the quality of their food, and he must have chose his suppliers with utmost care. "frico" one if the regional specialities, a cake of food and potatoes served with a choice of different flavorings, is usually quite "heavy" to digest, nit so at this restaurant, where while it has a real wholesome flavor, it is also very light !
excellent are also the fagottini, pasta dumplings filled with cheese and pears, or the taglionini di canapa. the beers, mostly local brews, are all excellent, and so are the wines offered, the selection is not huge, but quality is always excellent.
this is a small restaurant where all is well cared for, and it is certainly one of the very best places to eat in Friuli.
