We chose Cargills as an alternative to less accommodating venues. It is now a family favourite. The staff are so friendly, the decor and ambience are wonderful, prices are very competitive. Portion sizes are big, enough for even the heartiest appetites. We were looking for...a new favourite bistro in the area and our search is now over. We’ve booked an AirB’n’B in august just next door , so roll on august! My waistband accepts your challenge! Thankyou to all at Cargill’s! You knocked it out of the park!More

Sunday evening and we were hungry. The recommended Inn The Dalmore was busy som we drove on and found this little gem. Did not look very interesting from the entrance but I am very glad we opened the door and met the charming staff. The...food was excellent and the service was good Great value for moneyMore

We can't fault the food and the service. We came here for breakfast, liked it and booked for the evening. Great value for money. Will definitely recommend this place and will come back on our next visit.

Charming staff, nice atmosphere and tables well spaced out. Venison Casserole was fab as was my husband's liver on first visit. Went again and he praised the venison and I loved my guinea fowl. Didn't have starters on the 2nd visit as the portions were...so generous. I just wish we didn't live in Southern England otherwise we'd be regular visitors!More

My wife and I booked a lunch for my 90 year old father here on Sunday 29th May. The menu and reviews were the main reasons for doing so. When looking for a place to eat with a 90 year old the availability of wholesome...fair is paramount. We could not fault Cargill's on the fresh, well cooked food that was served or on the polite waiting staff that served it. Full marks to all concerned.More

We had a fabulous meal here, absolutely faultless! The Pad Thai was on the ‘specials’ and was just delicious. The prices, I would say, are on point for the quality of the food and the staff are so friendly and attentive. We indulged ourselves with...a cocktail or two after finishing a very tasty tiramisu and sticky toffee pudding. We will be back when next in the area, a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon. Well done Cargills Bistro ... Top of the classMore

We had a fabulous meal here from a really good choice of dishes. I had a venison stew which was very tasty and my husband said his beef shank was the best he had eaten. The desserts were excellent too - a special Jubilee sundae...and Ecclefechan tart with fresh oranges and marmalade ice cream. It’s pretty inside but definitely a dress-down venue, with a slightly scruffy exterior. Nice staff though and really good value for moneyMore

Booked a table on a Saturday evening based on previous reviews and not disappointed. We skipped starters and went straight to mains. My wife had an oriental crispy chicken dish in a sweet and sour sauce. The chicken was spot on although the sauce was...perhaps more spicy than she expected, with plenty of fried rice. I had slow cooked shin of beef in a red wine sauce with suated potatoes with chorizo and paprika. I would have accepted the latter as a dish on its own but the beef was a soft, juicey melt in your mouth centrepiece to an amazing meal. My wife finished things off with a sticky toffee pudding which was sweet with salted caramel toffee and topped with sprinkles of fudge. All of this with soft drinks and bread for a very reasonable £47 for 2.More

Cargill's Bistro is brilliant in every way - the staff, the food, the atmosphere. We have never been disappointed. We went on Friday for a birthday meal and Pete looked after us all brilliantly. Highly recommend the chicken curry!

This is without doubt my new favourite place to eat in Scotland. We enjoyed delicious cocktails outside (Pear Passion, Espresso Martini and Mojito) before moving indoors for our meals. Starters were Pork Meatballs and from the specials menu, Blue Cheese and Mushroom Bon Bons. We...opted for Beef Schnitzel (you know it's good when it gets a thumbs up from the German in the company) with the equally delicious Cargills Special Salad and Cheese Dumplings for our mains, with a bottle of Malbec - divine. Aimee/Amy was an absolute gem and should win the award for Scotland's best waitress - thank you missus for making our anniversary all the more special. Highly recommend everything about Cargills.More

We booked at the last minute on a Friday night.Absolutely delicious meal from start to finish! Nicest carrot and coriander soup I’ve had in a very long while! Venison bursting with flavour. My husband had crab starter and beef and was equally impressed. No complaints...here. Would highly recommend. All washed down with a devine white wine served by polite and unobtrusive staff 😊👍More
