We have been going to this restaurant since many years. We took 2 starters - tuna carpaccio and beetroot/gorgonzola ( did not get much of cheese) and fresh lampuki- but side dishes left much to be desired especially roast potatoes and caponata. Good service but competition is tougher these days - so standard needs to be raised as prices are on average 35/40 euros per head incl drinks/ wine. Not cheap.

The restaurant is situated on the square in Xaghra. The food was excellent and the wine list had a number of local wines on it. The service was great even though we were there on a very busy night when there was a concert in the square. The visit was made even more enjoyable by being offered deserts which had been made with fruit from a local garden, Definitely one to return to.

Lovely experience at a really cosy restaurant. Food was fantastic (had the tortellini with truffle cream) and we were really taken care of throughout (dietary requirements + free appetizers).
The staff were lovely and really friendly. Can't recommend it highly enough.

We ordered the lampuki as a starter and it was clearly frozen for a long time. Also, the deep fried vopi were clearly not fresh as the meat was chewy and it did not look fresh at all. The salad was not pleasantly presented as it was a whole plate of rucola. I expected much more for a 25eu plate of Vopi.

We had dinner there yesterday evening, regretfully! On arrival we saw that all unoccupied tables, about 8, had a reserved sign on them, and we were given a choice of 3 of them. We confirmed our reservation and sat at a central table which looked like the most socially distanced one from the lot, because the others had their chairs touching those of other tables. Strangely we were also never asked to provide a Covid pass. In fact we noticed that throughout the whole evening nobody was asked to provide a Covid pass. Anyway, we were shown the display fish which didn't seem appetizing at all, very disappointing, especially the bream which looked days old. The rest of the menu too was disappointing, very limited and terribly overpriced. For starters my wife took the mushrooms, bland and basic, while I took the smoked salmon, packet type while floating in oil and pepper corns. We then hoped for better results with our mains, which came with sad looking vegetables, salad and chips.....really not what we expected, having been there a couple of times before. And BTW, do give the toilets a miss if you do go there, unless they're given a good clean and they would have got rid of the old corroded toilet paper/brush stand.

Quite a nice atmosphere, staff were awesome as was the food.
I was invited to check out the fish of the day and super happy I did.
Had the stone fish with taties and veg with a tea spoon of their chilli paste which was hot-perfect, and it was all cooked to perfection. The fish steamed beautifully and the veg with a nice crunch, just how I like it.

I enjoyed eating at Oleander on my previous visit to Gozo, albeit seven years ago. We had to visit again, and nothing much had changed except the serving staff. The menu was much the same with a few updates. It is still extremely popular, and on our first try we couldn't get a table as it was fully booked. We booked a nice table on the terrace in the square for one of the following days.
They do a few vegetarian dishes, and my partner choose some sheep cheese ravioli which he liked. I ordered the fresh sea bass which is charged by weight. They did filet it at my request at the table, which of course means it doesn't look quite so attractive anymore. However, the taste of the fish with its butter garlic lemon sauce was lovely. You can choose your sides, rice or various potato preparations, and salad or vegetables. Remembering the boring veggies, I opted for the mixed salad and was presented with a nice bowl of fresh leaves. I finished with a panna cotta with two different fruit coulis, a sweet treat. This time, there were some half bottles of local red wines - I can recommend Victoria Heights, the grapes for which are grown just outside the village,
This time there were more waiting staff, and service was good: friendly and competent. Our dinner bill was EUR55 before tip, and that included an Aperol spritz as an aperitif, and mineral water. Should we ever return to Xaghra, Oleander will definitely be on our list of restaurants to revisit.

We were first introduced to this beautiful restaurant when we arrived on Gozo early and could not access our accommodation. They allowed us to store our cases and found us a table for lunch.
We shared a fabulous grazing platter for 2, which fed 4 easily, and then followed with mains. 2 of our party chose their fish from the counter and 2 of us had the beef cheeks. Everything was excellent. The service was impeccable, the friendliness and attention from the staff was wonderful. We went back again for an evening meal later in the week and again, was superb, this time indulging in dessert as well. Excellent. Highly recommended.

Every year we are fortunate enough to come back to Gozo we visit Oleander. It has always been a favourite place. We booked the week before but ended up with a table right on the edge of the extended outside area. The restaurant lacked ambiance until the street lights came on. The food was good however there are now better restaurants to eat at
at similar prices. I’m sorry to say for us this restaurant has lost its crown. The customer service was ok, not special, the fish catch of the day, one serving was filtered perfectly the second portion, not so and had more than a dozen bones, they were busy but attention to detail is everything. The one dish we can do a direct comparison on is the baked mushrooms and this is probably the one that for us disappointed the most with a lack of flavour, could have done with more herbs and garlic. However still a lovely meal and we will go back next year hoping this has just been a casualty of the awful covid pandemic as many restaurants on the island have suffered.

This is a fabulous and very friendly restaurant in the heart of the town just across the main square. The staff are friendly with excellent English and there is a great variety of not too expensive dishes. I had the rabbit which was tender and fell right off the bone - done to perfection and with a good array of fresh tasty vegetables. The Maltese beer that I had to wash it down with was good too. Highly recommended.

This is a great place to have lunch on Gozo. Well presented, flavoursome food is complemented by friendly service and a good wine list. it is also in a lovely location being in the central square in view of the church. We had tuna and prawn carpaccio to start followed by mains of sea bass and beef ravioli. If we had any small criticisms it would only be that service felt a little too quick at times (plates cleared almost before we had finished, an overkeen need to take our order before we had time to think etc) and the plastic tubs of largely dead plants that sit around the outside could better be thrown away as they detract what is really an excellent restaurant. But these do not stop a five star review for excellent food. Stop here for lunch when visiting the temples at Xaghra which are a short walk away.

The workers here take pride in everything they do. Be it a small clip that holds the table cloth in place to the delicious food they prepare and serve. The place is situated in a very quiet and relaxing town square.
Must not be missed!

Where to start? We went for a casual dinner on a quiet Tuesday evening. The interior is quaint and cosy, only a few tables due to recent measures. The service was wonderful, the young man, presumably the manager/owner, was very knowledgeable about the dishes on the menu.
a complimentary platter was given consisting of a delicious sun-dried tomato paste, cranberry cheese, parma ham and water biscuits.
For mains, we chose the mushroom risotto and truffle tortellini. I must say, the tortellini was one of the best pasta dishes i had ever tried. If you are a truffle enthusiast like myself, do yourself a favour and try it! Bursting with flavour with every single bite.
The dessert was equally phenomenal: a warm chocolate fondant, oozing with white chocolate and serviced with vanilla bean ice-cream and garnished with fresh strawberries and mandarin slices. Simply mouth-watering!
Price was very fair considering portion sizes and quality of the food. We will definitely return!

Waited 30 min for the order to be taken. The list of fresh fish changed completely from the time the menu were handed to the time the order was taken. We ordered a fishy for 2 persons and instead 2 small individual fish were served. Waiters didn’t know the ingredients of food on the menu. Food very average. Not a nice experience.
